Pros: Lots of wash cycles. Big stainless steel tub.
No maintenance problems. Cons: A little noisy. Maybe could wring a little better.
Summary: Back in 2001 a lot of my home appliance gave out within just a few months of each other. When it rains it pours, right? One of the first appliances to go was a 13-year old GE washer that came with the house. Since I never did like it I decided to get a ... read more

Pros: Stainless Steel tub, large capacity, fairly quiet Cons: Didn't last as long as it should of.
Summary: We purchased this washer 6 years ago to compliment the matching Amana dryer we purchased. It replaced an old Kenmore washer. That Kenmore may have been old, but it was still working well. I liked the Amana's stainless steel tub in both ... read more

Pros: Bought a new AMANA washer February 2006. Warranty out and it leaks! Cons: My advice is NEVER buy anything AMANA. Try GE or Whirlpool .
Summary: I purchased an AMANA top load washing machine on February 4th 2006. Up until now it has worked very well but has developed a water leak under the machine while filling with water! Of course the warranty has expired and the place where I purchased the ... read more

Pros: Large steel drum Cons: Noise, poor motor, money spent to wash elsewhere.
Summary: I bought my washer in 6/2002 - it has wash cycles are good, even a double wash, there is a bleach dispenser and an extra rinse cycle which I always use. If you don't want to use, option to turn off. There is also a quick wash option. Problems arose ... read more

Pros: Stainless Steel Tub Large Tub Variety of wash cycles Variable water levels Easy controls Cons: none - has been a fine washer until now.
Summary: My ALW480DAW has been a good washer with no problems at all, up till now. It is apparently beginning to fail with the same bearing problem reported by other reviewers. It started making the loud whirring sounds during the spin cycle about 3 months ago.

Pros: Quiet machine, simple controls Cons: Lasted only 4 years without a repair, limited tub space
Summary: We bought this top loader in 2005, along with its partner in crime (the dryer). It sprung a good-sized leak in 2009 when the seal broke. The unfortunate part was that the agitator wouldn't come off. From other reports we read and because of it's

Pros: Nothing positive can be said about ALW480DAW. Cons: Uncommonly poor design of the bearing/seal/hub assembly
Summary: I was given a 2004 'Commercial Quality' ALW480DAW because they couldn't stand the noise it made during spin (guests have since asked me if I have a heliport in the laundry room). Started gushing water out the bottom this week. Disassembly yields a

Pros: Capacity, that's why I bought it. Cons: Noisy. Out of service too early for my money.
Summary: Bought matching w/d in 2003. Recently started sounding like a freight train during spin cycle. Finally just quit last week. 3.5 years old. Amana pays for part (transmission) but not labor. By the time you add up for service call, wait for part, and

Pros: Stainless tub, simple to operate, inexpensive
Cons: Cheap, now broken after 3 years
Summary: Oops, shoulda got the GE. This washer had performed well until it started making a howling sound on spin and smelling of smoke. After I disassembled (being mechanically inclined) I found the bearing for the tub had failed, likely due to lack of lube, or

Pros: large capacity Cons: noisy, eventually crashed and burned
Summary: Don't ever buy an Amana Washing Machine again! After only 3 years the other day my machine started making a very strange noise and smoke was pouring out of it! Thank God I was home and not at work or my house would have burned down! I called a

Pros: Stainless steel tub is nice & washer has a lot of cycles Cons: Not built to last. VERY expensive to have repaired.
Summary: We bought a new house in 2003, moved over 850 miles & purchased a new washer & dryer for the new house. I initially (& for 3 yrs) really thought it was the greatest because of the stainless steel tub & large capacity. After we had this machine about 3

Pros: Large stainless steel inner tub Cons: Very Noisy
Summary: I'll add my 2 cents worth also. The machine was always on the noisy side but seemed to clean well. It started to get nosier and then leak during the spin cycle. It got to the point that the noise during the spin was unbearable and I decided to try and

Pros: none Cons: low quality product
Summary: Bought this Amana washer three years ago and the seal has already failed, causing water to leak under the washer. My last washer was a used Whirlpool washer that lasted me almost eight years. Amana makes cheap quality products. My recommendation is to

Pros: Stainless Steel Drum Cons: Doesn't last!
Summary: Bought the Amana Washer ALW480DAW in July 02. I used this washer for approx 4 loads a week. Started making a loud noise and overfilling with water. Local repairman said I would need to call Maytag repair. It sounded like a bearing problem. I paid him

Pros: Large Capacity Cons: Durability & Maytag/Amana customer service dept is the worst
Summary: Too many problems to go into...but suffice it to say that Amana washer and dryer were purchased in July 2001. Worked fine for about 6 months and since then have had nothing but problems...to the tune of almost $500 over 3 1/2 years. To make matters

Pros: Very quiet, inexpensive at $450 and loaded with features. Cons: The washer has broken way too early and not worth fixing
Summary: We purchased an Amana washer and dryer set in August 2003. Less than one year later, the dryer quit working and fortunately, it was still under warranty and was repaired free of charge. Now, the washer has stopped working. Just before it stopped

Pros: big capacity Cons: Non-durable, disposable washer ( quote from repairman)
Summary: bought in May of 2001. Broke first time in oct of '01, but under warranty. Now will not agitate, but pumps water and also spins. OF COURSE this one has only 3 years on parts, not 5 years like many amana's. I do not believe it is worth fixing because

Pros: Price. Cons: Durability.
Summary: I bought the Amana ALW480DAW "Commercial Quality" washer from Lowe's in June '03. My wife and I are the only household members so the unit is not used extensively - nowhere near as intensely as a family of four or five. The transmission froze up and

Pros: I liked the stainless steel tub and large capacity of this washer initially. Cons: A washer must last more than 4 years without expensive repairs. Total disaster
Summary: I purchased this washer in April of 2000. Last fall, 2003, it started making horrible noise. A dope from sears came out and told me it needed a new transmission, which he offered to put in for $850. I threw him out, after paying him $55 for a service

Pros: Nice large basket and opening. Cons: Broken at less than 3 years old.
Summary: I really loved this machine because of the large basket and ease of loading and unloading. It is attractive and fairly easy to clean. This was not an inexpensive machine and I had always thought that Amana made a decent product. I just lived through
