This machine was the most expensive piece of junk I have eve been suckered into purchasing. I don't want to spoil anyone on the "calypso wash" motion, but Whirlpool left this thing so full of flaws I would be afraid to wash my baby's diapers in it. It has ruined hundreds of dollars worth of my family's clothing by leaving gray spots and grease marks on the fabric, and many items would work their way below the basket only to get twisted and torn in the drive shaft. I thought my family had really been suckered by Whirlpool until I learned of the CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT pending against them from the hundreds of people that have had the same bad experience as I have. I guess there is light at the end of this tunnel (As long as I get my money back). Bottom line --- steer clear of this hunk of junk.

This Calypso washing machine simply does not clean the clothes. I have had it for since Feb 2004. Dark loads come out with either soap residue or lint on them. The service tech who came out to fix my dryer that was not installed properly told me to use less detergent. He said there really is hardly any water used to clean the clothes so that it doesn't carry out the lint in the rinse. You've got to be kidding. He suggested buying the extended warranty too. I have only ever used HE detergent and no matter if I use the correct amount or less, the clothes come out the same way. The white clothes also are not really white anymore. They are dingy. I have always sorted whites from any colors and never had a problem in any other washer. My old GE stackable in my old apartment worked much better than this Calypso washer. I was convinced to buy this machine by the Sears sales person. My husband wanted to buy a basic model but I had to have all the bells and whistles. Don't waste your money on this machine.

Pros: Love the looks, ease of use, and low water usage
Cons: Can't think of a single thing negative about this.

I bought the Calypso washer/dryer set in April 2004 and loved it right away. Then, I bought my son and his wife a set. None of us have had a problem with ours. I always use HE soap and this thing cleans everything I put in it. I'm truly surprised at all the negative comments. I'm moving this month and my biggest disappointment is that I can't take this set with me.

Pros:

Large tub and will wash comforters - when it worked.

Cons: Inability to wash small loads, such as two blouses.

Our Whirlpool Gold Calypso washing machine is 3 years and 3 months old (convenient 3 months out of warranty)...keep getting LD code but lines not jammed. Paid $85 to service guy to diagnose that we needed a pump, and $275 to fix it...one week later, getting LD code again...Sears wants to charge me another $85 to "rediagnos"...I am just going to throw it away (it won't finish a cycle - leaving clothes soapy and soaking wet)...maybe switch to Maytag or GE...heck, I'd settle for generic as opposed to this overpriced piece of junk.

This machine should never have been put on the market! We paid $1200.00 for it, including a matching dryer for $900.00. Thank God we purchased an extended warranty. The machine has been serviced 6 times and replaced once. I call the store that we purchased it from and here we go, we get the run-around. After some research, I find the number to the corporate office. I was treated as if I did not exist. I want say the name of the store, but BEST BUY... is really bad at everything. New machine or not I am totally through with WHIRLPOOL and BEST BUY! Worse experience ever in my life!

Pros: Looks ok in laundry room.
Cons: Dingy whites, won't stay level.

The absolute biggest piece of junk - I need my head examined I actually have two , one in primary home and one that came with second home we purchased. Where do I start? Rust on new shirts, shredded towels, dingy, dingy whites! Sears should be giving everybody their money back with a BIG apology. Would beat my clothes on a rock on a river before I used one of these again!

I have had my Calypso since 2001. I can't even count how many times I've had to have it repaired. At least a dozen times. I was denied eligibility in the class action lawsuit because we didn't have any repairs done the first year. Very frustrating. Sears is FINALLY replacing it for us. This was my first brand new set. I had used sets before, and used them until they couldn't be fixed again. I bought this because Consumer Reports said it was the best out there at the time. Makes it hard to really trust any washer now, and CR.

Pros: Super cleaning, quiet, energy & water efficient
Cons: New way of washing can be difficult to get used to

I have used this washer constantly for the past 3 years and have experienced the LD (long drain) problem mentioned in the other reviews. The service man came out to fix the machine and he could find nothing wrong either. I was at my wits end, since I really liked this machine, but couldn't solve this knotty problem. Then I realized that I did not install this machine with the hoses that came with it, but rather used "better" stainless steel burst proof hoses. I removed one of these hoses from the water source and compared it to the Whirlpool hoses and noticed that its inside diameter was much smaller, even though all demensions looked the same on the outside. Well, I replaced the stainless steel hoses with the Whirlpool ones and I have not had another LD reading in more than 2 1/2 years. I will keep a watchful eye on this machine because of all the bad reviews, but basically I like it very much. It's quiet, does a super washing job, and is very energy efficient. My previous machine was a Maytag from hell, so perhaps I've done my lemon time.

first bought my washer at lowes it broke two weeks later whirlpool gave us the run around so lowes replaced it with a new one thanks to lowes then the new one broke again pump went out this time whirlpool fixed it. then the pump went out after the year was up they said the pump was plastic and they are replacing it with a steel pump. now here we go pump out again no one wants to work on it we called whirlpool they would not give us any help talked to a supervisor all we could get was 10% off another whirlpool washer we asked about the class action suit that was filed in which whirlpool lost she said too late they already paid off the washer is no good so i was going to the dump but desided to pay a friend to put the washer in the back of his pick-up with a sign saying i got stuck by whirlpool they will not back there products with my name and phone number he said he will do it for two months it will be money well spent

I've read all the bad reviews on this washer & don't agree at all. I think it's great, I've owned it for about 6 months now & haven't had 1 problem with it at all. Clothes come out nice & clean & removes stains well. I got this machine for a bargain price of $439 at a Sears Discount Outlet.

It's true. We've been having these mysterious streaks and stains appear on some of our color clothing after we wash our clothes. It looks like bleach streaks to me. They don't come out and the clothes our basically ruined.

We bought this product because it was advertised as environmentally friendly and had good reviews in Consumer's Report at the time.
I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong until I read the reviews here. Clothes come out with black dirt in wrinkles, especially when using Hand wash or Delicate. I can get the stains off if I hand wash my clothes right after the machine wash. I didn't realize that my fancy expensive towels could look awful after just a year because of the washer - I was blaming the towel manufacturer. Stopped using bleach because of bleach stains on towels and sweatshirts. Using HE soap didn't make any difference.
We had electrical problem within the first few months (under warranty), couldn't get anyone to come and look at it for couple of weeks, then had to wait for the part and schedule another appointment to install the part. Couldn't use the washer for maybe a month. There was no apology as we were dealing with the manufacturer. Can we join the class action?

Cons: Needs to be repaired often. I see class action Law Suits against this washer.

Had 4 pumps installed in 2 1/2 years. Only one was under warranty. The other pumps cost $300.00 each for a total of almost $1000.00 in repairs. Now the motor is dead. We are scrapping this high tech piece of junk and buying an old reliable type of washer.

Pros: Lot of options on how you want to ruin your clothes.
Cons: They are legion.

If you like dingy whites, mysterious stains on formerly spotless items, ruined clothing and an all around lousy washing machine, you'll love the calypso. It might know how to dance, but it sure doesn't take good care of your clothing!

Cons: Ruins my clothing

I bought the Calypso because it conserved water and supposedly cleaned your clothes. At this point it has left brown stains on every light colored shirt that I have washed in the machine. I scheduled two service calls and both times the technicians claimed they could not imagine what was causing the stains. I called Whirlpool today and they scheduled a service call and acted like they have never heard of this problem. The service company just called and asked me what I expected them to do and I said fix the machine. I paid $1,000 for this machine and feel totally ripped off and lied to.
