Cons: Their consumer relations chose to blame me for the screw up instead of fixing it.
I will NEVER use UHaul again. They gave me a smaller truck than I ordered and it cost me a fortune in extra trips.

U-Haul & one way truck rental (DON'T!)

Pros: Lower cost than most, lots of rental dealers.

The truck had problems with brake effectiveness, and strong vibration form the driveshaft(?) when accelerating or decelerating, most violent between 30 and 40 mph. The steering worked without too much play, yet made metallic clunking noises that were felt in the steering wheel. This was quite noticeable after the truck was warmed up and driven for several miles. A companion auto trailer was attached to the truck as reserved, however the trailer was unsafe to use, due to a defective tire and a non functional brake system. The truck was NOT available on the day reserved, and became available (a different larger size truck) two days later.
It was virtually impossible to contact U-Haul to complain.

UHAUL is the WORST!!

Cons: theif, rude, no product, liars
Called to confirm reservation 3 times! 3 times they say, yes, you are reserved for the 26'foot truck. Move day comes and no truck! They nastily reply that there was confusion with reservation and they no longer have it in the system. They still owe me $1.00 for initially reserving online. NEVER GOT THE TRUCK! 3 hours later, rented Budget truck. UHAUL SUCKS. BEWARE!

Service. What service???

Pros: There was no advantage to choose U-haul except that they are less expensive.
Cons: Poor/lack of customer service, old truck, employers don't care.
I booked a 17 ft U-haul truck over a month in advance and was told that everything was ok. The day before moving, I got a call saying that they had "upgraded" us to a 26 ft truck. I made a number of calls and try to explain that we did not need a 26 ft truck and that it would cost us a lot more to drive (about 1500 km) and to take the ferry. Everyone I talked to basically told me it was too bad but that they had the right to change the size of the truck (it is in the contract, in small prints). We even wrote an email to their customer service and never got and answer back. We have learned not to trust U-Haul and their customer service. Also, even if they appear to be cheaper, for us it was more expensive than Budget or Rider. We will never use U-haul again!!!

I would rather carry my furniture on my back than use U-haul again.

I called U-haul and reserved a moving truck several weeks in advance for the location nearest to my apartment (4800 N. Broadway in Chicago), I even got a confirmation number confirming my reservation (of course it had to be secured with a credit card). But yet when I went to U-haul the day of my move I was told there were no trucks available! The counter staff could have cared less and my confirmation number was useless. I had to race around to find another moving truck. Thank God for Ryder! I sent a complaint to U-haul with an unfriendly reminder that my credit card better not be charged a penny and they responded with a "we don't know what happened but we'll look into it so it never happens again" e-mail.

I WILL NEVER USE U-HAUL AGAIN. I NOW CALL IT BY ITS BETTER KNOWN NAME OF U-SUCK!

Pros: There is nothing good about anything associated with this company.
Cons: Everything associated with this company is horrible.
We had a rental confirmation and a pick-up location. When we went to pick up the truck not only did they not have any truck at all, the "confirmation number" was the wrong number of digits. They had actually just made up a number to give us over the phone, and were not smart enough to give us a fake number with the correct amount of digits. I called the national 800 number to get another truck. Big mistake. They could get us a truck the next day. A truck the next day would have done absolutely no good, since I had to move that day. The customer service person was the rudest person I have ever spoken to. She actually laughed at me. U-Haul is the worst thing to ever have existed.

Truck was unsafe at any speed, I lost two days with electrical fault which they would do nothing about even though their service center performed repairs,which they couldn't find a record of, then when I turned the lemon in, they had no record of the fuel at checkout (1/4 tank), therefore charged $108. even after showing them the Dealer rental tag with dealer signature on the 1/4 tank. (I guess they thought he was lying). I spent hours over the next two weeks talking to Amy and Yetta and some of their other fine "Service Reps", to little satisfaction - refunded $60 of the $200 overcharge. At least I need another truck this week - so Budget seems like a great choice. One of the worst run businesses in the World!!!!!

Stay Away from UHaul!!

Pros: Nice orange and white paint.
Cons: Everything else.
My husband and I moved recently with a UHaul truck and all I can say is NEVER AGAIN! It took us close to 9 hours to make what is usually a 4 or 4.5 hour trip, owing to huge plumes of acrid black smoke pouring out of the engine. We kept on having to pull over by the side of the highway to let the engine cool down before we could start up again. Then, to cap it all off, when night fell we realized that the running lights didn't work and one of the headlights was a lot dimmer than the other. All in all it was a lousy truck, making for an interminably long and stressful move. When we complained we were offered a grand total of $77 by UHaul for our trouble - off a bill that was many hundreds of dollars. Thanks UHaul, for next to nothing.

Pros: Cheap- because they never gave us a truck to rent!!
Cons: Reservations are useless, they never provided a truck or a solution.
We reserved a 17' U-Haul truck to move to our new house, and called at 8 am on the day of the reservation to see when we could pick the truck up. We heard the first of many (well rehearsed) "We'll call you when the equipment is returned." Our friends had already arrived to help stack the truck, and we twiddled our thumbs. All in all, we ended up having to borrow a small towed-trailer and pack up our friends' cars to the hilt to complete our move. Luckily, we were only moving an hour away, so we were able to make two trips. The only "solution" that U-Haul provided was to call us at 5 pm that night and offer us a smaller truck 2 hours away from our old house and 3 hours away from the new place.

The only good news is that we'll be able to use the money we saved from not paying U-Haul to get thank you gifts for our friends who provided their time, energy, and vehicles!

Pros: I do not have any kind words for this company.
Cons: I lost years of my life in stress.
I have moved alot. Like every 2-3 years for the past 20 years. I have a pickup (a necessity) and always rented a trailer from UHaul until the past 2 moves. I reserved a trailer on my last move online in Tucson. When the day of my move came, I called to pick up the trailer, they said that none existed in the entire city of Tucson and i would have to drive to Phoenix, 4 hours away, to pick up my reserve. As I drove to get lunch, furious, I saw the trailer I needed at the UHaul down the street. Then, despite having a camping trailer of my own that always has tail lites, they claimed that my electrical was bad and proceeded to charge $75.00 for repairs. I am not sure what "magic" they performed but my electrical system has never been the same since. Despite complaints, I have not received compensation or even an apology. Only excuses. I will NEVER use UHaul again. I hope the company rots. I would rather sell all my clothes, furniture and jewelry and walk to my new city naked than pay UHaul another cent.

Impossible to rent a truck!

Cons: Rude customer service people, repeated promises of call backs that NEVER happened!
Starting at 7:30AM I called to rent a 14' U-Haul truck one way for the day here in Florida. Four hours later after taking credit card information and giving a confirmation number, still NO information. Was treated VERY RUDELY all three times that I followed up at the 1-877-829-5122 customer service line. Very poor experience. Fraud???

How do they stay in business?

Pros: Reasonable rates.
Cons: Did not live up to ANY of their promises.
Terrible customer service. Reserved truck not ready on time. Tried to send out truck with wrong fuel reading. Condition of truck very poor, even scary. When returning truck after hours I find on my credit card charged with service charges not justified. Now I can't even talk to a manager. I guess it is time to pursue small debts court. I'm glad I kept all receipts.

Over a week and still waiting

Pros: None. Never got a truck that was reserved so it's hard to say anything good.
Cons: 20 minute hold time on phone, no equipment, clueless service reps, no answers.
This is the first of two reviews because we rented (attempted) on two separate occasions. Both will be the same poor rating.

My daughter had a confirmed reservation for a 24' truck over a week ago. We were told repeatedly (we called at least 6 times) to wait for a call telling us where to go to pick one up (60 mile radius). She is still waiting for a call. Why in over a week is a truck not available in the greater Washington DC area?

Pros: I discovered another good moving company.
Cons: U-haul is the worst company ever. Just skip it!
Once they have your credit card number, it's all over. They no longer have to serve you. You think you've made a reservation in advance, but you haven't. All you've done is give your credit number to a bunch of screw ups who will charge you if they find you a truck somewhere in the U.S. anytime on the day of your move.

They reserved a truck for me in the WRONG STATE, then REFUSED to correct the mistake. I had to spend the next day (the day of the move!) looking for another truck AND trying to cancel, so U-HAUL wouldn't charge me for not picking up a truck 800 miles away.

U-Haul is the WORST company I've had the misfortune to deal with. They must only pay their employees low wages because it's really obvious that they don't give a stuff about your reservation. At least 3 employees that I explained my situation to burst out laughing and saying stuff like, "That's U-Haul for you.", one even told me I'd made a mistake to go with them, and I should have gone with Budget.
