If you rent a trailer you should make sure you have a Hitch

Pros: uhaul.com price, truck model clear
many locations Cons: 1800 hotline service not good. avoid using it.
From Uhaul.com you could see one way trailer cheapest, about $25.
However, before you make reservations for the trailer, please make sure you have a hitch in your car, or at least you are willing to install a hitch which costs about $200 extra.
The fact is Uhaul does not rent hitch and if you don't have a hitch you couldn't use trailer that day. If so, you would lose your money and mix your moving plan.
The Gap of the 1800 Uhaul headquarter and the local Uhaul is very obvious. The 1800 hotline told me they don't have any truck in my area, unless I'm wiling to travel more than 30 minutes to other area. While when I call my local uhaul agent, he told me he does have truck which is 3 minutes drive from my home, but he thought it is too expensive for me to rent a uhaul. What a nice local guy, actually, I finally chose Avis which saved me half.
Although at first glance, Uhaul is cheap and has many available locations, if you do some homework you may find other renting companies.

Pros: none Cons: bad service
I recently went on line to reserve a uhaul truck couldnt go to the place too busy at work. they stated it takes a hour for them to call you it took longer than that. I cancelled my reservation for truck didnt need it plus they didnt even have the truck i wanted i would've had to get a bigger truck. I do not a gree with having to pay $5.00 for a service i didnt recieve it isnt alot of money but it the principle of the matter why pay for no services rendered?

UHAUL-Incompetent Morons

Pros: all over the place Cons: Where to begin?
Last summer when I was moving to a new apartment my roommate and I decided to use UHAUL. I ordered the midsized truck (19 feet?) and arranged to pick it up on 8/29/2004. I called to confirm that the truck would be ready and they told me that not ONLY did they not have the right size truck for me, but they also made me drive to some random UHAUL location to pick up my truck. Then they charged me extra for the mileage!!!! The truck looked like something you'd see crumpled along the side of the highway after a 10 car pileup. It was a mess. It lurched and sputtered and I thought I was going to be killed as I drove it on the highway. NExt time I move I will go with PENSKE.

U-HAUL SUCKS STILL...............

Pros: They're riding on their reputation from VERY LONG AGO - no longer applies. THEY SUCK Cons: THEY SUCK! DON'T USE THEM..... go with Ryder, Budget or Penske - ANYONE ELSE!!!
Called 3 weeks before we needed the truck and reserved one. Went to pick it up at 8am Mon. morning only to be told that the reservation had been moved/changed the day before (Sun) and 1) no one knew why; and 2) no one called us from customer service on Sun. like they claim they do to tell us there wouldn't be a truck at the location for pick up. They sent US to a different location 30 min away to get another truck. They promised us there was a truck there for us When we got there we saw a sign on the door saying they were closed and not returning for 1.5 hours! Called the original place back which sent us somewhere else, to make a long story short after driving around for 2 hours back and forth from one place to another we finally located a truck.
There is ZERO organization, ZERO customer service, it's totally disjointed!
They find businesses that are willing to be a drop off station but it's not their primary business so no one really has a handle on ANYTHING. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE - DO NOT GIVE U-HAUL YOUR BUSINESS!!!

great move

Pros: company seems they are getting it together in the smaller towns Cons: tv show special ran them down cause some trucks bad in big cities
i have used U-haul four times in the last year and I have only found them with new equipment at the three places that I have dealt with once in Balmy Beach Ontario Canada and two differant places in Owen Sound Ontario Canada one of the trucks had just over 2000 miles and one with 12000 miles but all trucks started and stoppped and were clean and good to go

WORST COMPANY CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD!

Pros: None Cons: Phone system menu's, customer service,NO SERVICE AT ALL!
I can't even begin to explain what a nightmare it was to try and get a uhaul. My husband and I were moving this past weekend and had a reservation #, but could not get through to UHAUL to get an answer as to what time Sat the truck was coming, when we did get through, only because we called the national line, they assured me a supervisor would call me back. DID NOT HAPPEN. I called again(after waiting on hold for another hour) and again they said someone would call me back. Well they did assuring us we would have a truck for Sunday. We spent 2 hours on hold on Sunday morning at three different 800 numbers to AGAIN have no resolution. It is now Monday and I have yet to hear back from anyone at UHAUL. Sunday at 11:30 I called Penske and they gave me a truck on the spot.

Great experience with U-Haul

Pros: All 26 foot trucks are brand new. All are automatic. Cons: Not one
I decided to rent a truck and was hesitant on U-Haul because I heard some of these e-pinions horror stories with these trucks breaking down and customer service. I still tried and found that the 26 foot trucks were new and mine had only about 20K miles so I was very happy. I also rented a car dolly. The area I rented from was Dunnellon Florida. Extremely nice guys. The truck was a dream to drive, the gas mileage was fine. I will always recommend U-Haul for now on. Thanks U-Haul.

U-Haul discrimination

Pros: Moving yourself saves a great deal. Cons: This company is unfriendly to women.
I was very disappointed in this company overall when the clerk behind the desk told me that the only trucks they had available at that time were manual, and I wouldn't be able to drive them because I was female. I wrote a letter of complaint to U-Haul headquarters, but never received a response. At least there are other companies out there now to choose from. Besides an all out boycott, if you decide to go with this company use caution with the pricing. The advertisements might read one price for a move, but after all the extra fees are tacked on you may end up paying four times as much.

Verbally Abusive Customer Service

Pros: In the past I have received good customer service at a great price. Cons: I was given false information after being verbally abused by an owner.
I have used U-Haul every time I have made a move. As a recent graduate, you can imagine the quantity of use! After my last experience, I will NEVER use them again. I called to make a change in the dates of my reservation and received the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The person told me that I needed to "make up your mind, lady!" At no point in the conversation was his disrespect merited. I told him to cancel my reservation. After waiting about 10 minuets in complete silence, he gave me a cancellation number. I called the customer service line immediately to report what happened. He NEVER canceled my reservation and gave me a bogus cancellation number. I suppose he intended to charge my credit card when I did not pick up the truck on the reserved day. I have never made a complaint about a company, but I do not want others to make the same mistake.

Uhaul mileage scam

Pros: The person taking the reservation was nice - that's it Cons: Unsafe vehicles, rude, lying staff, possible odometer fraud.
My experience is typical of others here. Reserved a truck - small, for a day rental - 4:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m the next day. When my husband picked it up, they told him he could only have it until 8 a.m. the next day and that was what I agreed to, which was untrue - I was very clear on times. Finally they give it to him till noon, then say they'll throw in the dolly for free. Truck was in terrible shape, but made the trips we needed - barely. When he returns it, the same guy claims that he never agreed to the free dolly, then charges us for 189 miles. Of course my husband didn't right down the odometer reading and the truck was taken away by the time the guy came back with the charges. But we know the mileage of our route and doublechecked it - 120 miles tops.
They are thieves!

They Take Reservations -- But Don't Honor Them!

Pros: The price seemed cheaper, but they don't actually honor their reservation commitments. Cons: Unreliability. Unwillingness to make good on reservation that was not honored.
We reserved a truck from U-Haul on a Sunday morning at the Newport, RI location. We arrived to find the location shut up tighter than a drum although it was 10:15 AM and the sign on the door said they opened at 9 AM. Two other frustrated parties were waiting as well. They said they had called U-Haul and had not been able to learn anything about when/if the office would open. We tried reaching U-Haul on our cellphones which was the usual runaround. U-Haul could not help us. So we decided after waiting 15 minutes or so to leave as we had an actual time frame within which to pick up the furniture.
We were not able to hold as much furniture as the truck and this was a serious inconvenience. Yet despite U-Haul's mistake they were unwilling to even offer us a discount on a future rental. Yes, that's right, even though they did not honor our confirmed reservation and inconvenienced us by their mistake, they would do nothing other than cancelling the reservation.
Postscript: I complained about this to U-Haul in an email. They said they would get back to me. They didn't.

The worst service ever

Pros: price Cons: everything else.
Can't believe how these guys are still in business
This is not the first time. 3 times and everytime
the same experience. The only reason is I put up with
this is they have a location near my place.
The holding times are unending. You call, wait, hangup
and then call, wait, hangup. Even the national number
is not any better. Spent 2 hrs on phone just to schedule
a simple pickup and the customer service says I have to
relax, take it easy and "its not so bad" and wants me to
hold on for more time.

U Haul is Horrible

Pros: NONE!!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: THEY ARE HORRIBLE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND GOING SOMEPLACE ELSE
2 months ago I called and made reservations for a U-Haul Trailer. When we went to pick it up the U-Haul had one, but wouldn't give it to us because they had also rented it to someone on the Internet. They did nothing to help us and we had no way of transporting the car to St. Louis as planned.
This time I made an Internet reservation for the trailer. (to move the same car we didn't get to move last time)
The confirmation states that they will contact me by 5pm the day before pickup to confirm location and time. They did not call me and when I called them they said I will be picking up at location 30 minutes from my home. Then they called me back 2 hours later and said they don't have a trailer for me. (sound familiar) When I called them back to complain they said they had one 50 minutes away, but I had to pick it up in the next two hours!!

couch disposal fee? i didnt even move a couch

Pros: zip Cons: i was charged for the disposal of a couch i didnt even move
i rented a u haul trailer in edmonton to make a short move over the weekend and the trailer worked fine. it was due back monday mourning at 7am so i dropped it off at around 7 on sunday after they closed and left it parked in their yard. things were kosher unitl i got my credit card bill 2 months later when i was charged $74 for the rental; and a additional $167 as a separate charge unbenounced to me. upon my phone call it turns out this unauthorized charge is the disposal fee for a couch that was left in my trailer. now, when this trailer was returned it didnt have as little as a leaf in it. i made an argument with the managerand he was less than understanding when i asked for my money back he laughed and literally hung up on me when i said i intended to file a complaint.
am i the only one who has had problems like this? please give me a response.

I had a horrible experience last weekend at UHAUL at ERIE Boulvd SYRACUSE,NY. I booked my truck in advance ..they guranteed me the truck and when on the day of moving i went to pick up the truck..the truck was not available. On top of that the general manager by the name of Kieth Overton was rude and abusive to me. He didnt even call any other uhaul stores to arrange a truck.Finally i got the truck after 5-6 hrs of stuggle. When i was on my way to new home the truck stopped and never started again...my last weekend was a nightmare...i advice anyone not to do business with UHAUL because they sucK.Their truck are old and crappy ..they overbook their trucks..
dont get a uhaul truck even for free.
