They called me and confirmed my reservation. When I turned up early next morning, there was neither truck nor equipment I had booked. They sent me chasing on call to another u-haul store where I was told equipment could not be confirmed until I got to the store. Finally after a long trip when I reached the new U-Haul store, the help were very rude and it was I was being done a favour to get the truck booked.

Pros: The truck was able to go the speed limit of 55 miles an hour.
Cons: Lack of concern and customer service. Paid for A/C got a lot of hot air.

My truck did not completely break down and leave stranded but I had a very hot Sunday drive all I was offered was twenty dollar vip certificate. I rented a one way U-hall from Mankato MN on cool morning. I left the next day for my destination it had warmed up and the need for A/C was there. I turned the heater onto A/c and only hot air blew out. So I shut it off and rolled down the windows but the trucks engine temperature climed very high and when I turned the heater back on the engine temperature fell so I could make it to my destination on time. My problem with this is that I called the local branch, National, and finaly regional and I was only offered a twenty dollar vip certificate. What good will that do me the move is done, why not at least credit my credit card with the amount. Poor service in my opinion.

do not use uhaul. they are the most awful company i have ever dealth with. long story short. rented a truck. it broke down. i had to move out of the truck, from the side of the road, in the rain- get a friend to help me- then- uhaul told me AFTER HOURS of talking to the corporate office that i would not be charged- NOT ONLY WAS I CHARGED, BUT I GOT MY CREDIT REPORT TODAY- WITH A NEGATIVE MARK FROM YOU GUESSED IT UHAUL!!!!! now im on hold again for about 30 minutes and still waiting- to get this issue resolved- which i have no expectations about really- if i even get someone on the phone who can help me ill be amazed. stay away from this company- just type in uhaul corporate office into google and youll see what i mean- uhaul.com does not even come up!!!!

Cons: Horrible customer service, terrible employees and many liars.

U-Haul rented out us a defective truck for $1500 that spit exhaust into the cabin where all of our belongings were for the 3 day trip from Indianapolis, IN to Corpus Christi, TX.

They have since dragged their feet on taking care of us and a month later we are still waiting to get reimbursed so that we can get our lives back together. We have talked to numerous representatives about the incident and all of them try and shift the blame elsewhere and no one is willing to help.

Avoid this company at all costs - obviously I should have read everyone elses E-Pinions about this company - because it is the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Pros: Maybe staff at other locations are more professional?
Cons: I trusted them to do the right thing and they didn't.

I sure wish I'd seen this site before going to U Haul! I have been dealing with the Coventry Road location in Ottawa, and have never in my life had to deal with such HORRIBLE customer service. I am a nice person and generally am treated well, but the management at this location has been extremely rude and at times even threatening! It is hard to believe but I suspect they are being intentionally uncooperative. They put me on hold for more than 65 minutes, twice!. Like many customers, I reserved my truck well in advance, only to be told it would not be available when I had reserved it, but as bad as that was, the situation with their storage facility is a nightmare! I have never been treated so poorly and will under no circumstances ever go back.

I reserved a 17' truck online and was supposed to be contacted by 5pm the night prior to move. No call. I called the next morning and they said they were working on it and would call me right back. After 4 more hours I called them back and they said they had'nt called back as they were still working on it. The manager wanted to know if I would take a 10' van that would have to be back in 14 hours. Not helpful. She said she could then do nothing more for me."Shall I cancel this reservation for you sir"
No, please by all means charge me for the wonderful experience and conversation. That's it: no truck, nothing. I had a house packed and had to be out by midnight.

Cons: Wrong truck size, poor customer service (swearing), overbilling

Placed reservation 60 days before move.
Received phone call 14 days before move saying you can't have a truck for your reservation, call the store manager to discuss.
When I called the store manager after being told that the employee who called me should be FIRED that "we don't have a truck but I will figure it out." Guess what?? We showed up to pick up the truck and they didn't have one for us. They had several excuses and after waiting an hour, we received a truck 1/2 the size of what we needed. We ended up having to make several extra trips and returned the truck late only to pay a late fee PLUS extra money for mileage. While renting the truck we listened to the manager SWEARING at employees and then at customers who were late returning their truck.

Pros: Leaves a lot of room for a good competitor to surface.
Cons: The core of this franchise.

I have never seen a place where you wait for so long on the phone or get anyone to come back to you once your on hold then at the Conventry Rd location in Ottawa Ontario. Waiting in line to be served is just as worst.
I had to finish the wirering mysel for it to work properly when I had a hitch installed. I will never do buisiness there again.

Uhaul advertises over and over about how they will issue a refund for any unused supplies from a move, However a receipt is required. THEY ARE MILITANT ABOUT HAVING THE RECEIPT. WITHOUT THE RECEIPT THEY WILL DO NOTHING FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought close to $2000 worth of supplies and they refuse to issue a refund on $100 worth of Supplies. Another lost customer!

Pros: Available everywhere.
Cons: Unsafe, poorly maintained.

My son just moved from Texas to Colorado. We helped. The condition of the truck he rented was terrible. The vibration in the cab extreme and tiring. About 2/3 of the way there, we got a look at the FRONT tires (when the wheel was turned) and were horrified to see the uneven tire wear (the front tires had about 3" less tread on the inside than on the outside). It is a wonder that the truck got him there safely. This business should be regulated to make sure that these vehicles are maintained properly and road-worthy.

These trucks are a menace both for those who rent them and for those who share the road with them.

Pros: It was a truck with 4 tires, a steering wheel, and a horn.
Cons: The truck was not what I had asked to rent and was unsafe to operate.

I had a terrible experience renting a U-Haul truck on August 6, 7, 2004. I had a reservation for a one-way drop off between Bloomingdale, IL and West Lafayette, IN. When I went to the rental office in Illinois, they did not have a one-way drop off truck. So instead, they gave me a local truck and assured me that the price was the same ($125). The truck was unacceptable and unsafe. It had great difficulty driving on the interstate and the brake lights and turn signals did not work at all. Additionally, the truck was very difficult to start (minimum 5 - 6 cranks each time to get it started) and the fuel gauge was erratic. Then I was charged $248, instead of $125, since they listed as a local move rather than a one-way drop off.

I rarely complain about a product or service, however my recent experience with U-haul merits at least that.

I needed a truck to transport a washer and dryer across town; unfortunately, U-haul is the only outfit that services my area. I wish I had driven to the Penske office forty miles away.

Rather than include a long story about my trip, I think it'd be more effective simply to mention what exactly was wrong with my truck. The fuel gauge wavered from full to empty the entire time I was driving; the parking brake engaged whenever the truck came to a full stop and would not disengage except on its own whim; the air conditioning did not work; the brakes were shoddy at best; the alignment was so off that in order to go straight, I had to turn the wheel at a ninety-degree angle; and the tires looked like they had been installed when Nixon was in office.

If you have the option, go elsewhere. If you not have the option, consider not moving.

Cons: Rude response to our polite query.

Rented a truck locally.  They told us to bring the truck back with the guage at the same place as when we rented it.  Unfortunately, they do not explain that you must actually have the car running to read the guage.  Since this is illegal in California, you overfill inadvertently!

When I explained this to U-Haul (Florin Road in Sacramento), manager said that they just could not explain every little thing.  He said they would go broke if they compensated us for the $15 we overfilled the tank.

Pros: nothing good to say about U-Haul in Ohio
Cons: U-haul needs to OVERHAUL their customer service staff!

I was reading a prior review that raved about the U-haul service at the Colerain Twp location and decided to call this particular station to rent a truck for the day. Steve answered the phone and I announced that I wanted to rent a truck his reply was "so does everyone else". When asked about the various sizes and rates, he proceeded to run them down very quickly while I was trying to write the information and understand what he was saying. While I was repeating what he said to confirm, he began to huff in the phone. I asked "if I was inconveniencing him? after all I am a customer". He blew right past that and asked if I wanted to rent a truck, I said I'll call back... (unlikely)!!! THIS IS TERRIBLE SERVICE but unfortunately the norm for U-Haul as this is the second time I've had such outrageous service in two different parts of Ohio(maybe its the norm for Ohio??). I called several U-Haul regional managers to complain about the first incident in the Youngstown/Akron area and their response was basically..so what! Needless to say, I'm trying to find another moving option...

Pros: There wasn't a single good thing about renting from these people.
Cons: bad service terrible equipment lazy rude

DO NOT RENT FROM UHAUL COVENTRY ROAD. Most of the people I dealt with at Uhaul at Coventry Road in Ottawa we're rude, incompetent and or totally lazy.
