U-HAUL CORALVILLE, IA TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT U-HAUL MAXED OUT MY CREDIT CARDI I WAS LEFT OUT OF STATE WITH NO FUNDS AND OVER THE CREDIT LIMIT. THEY CHARGED ONE THOUSAND FIFTY DOLLARS FOR 23 HOURS AND TWELVE MILES OF USAGE., ME BEING A FATHER FROM OUT OF TOWN MOVING BOTH HIS COLLEGE STUDENT SONS INTO A NEW APT. BECAUSE WE WERE LATE RETURNING THE TRUCK, DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL. WE WERE THREATENED OVER THE PHONE WITH POLICE ACTION AND LEFT WITH NOT EVEN ENOUGH MONEY TO GET HOME HAD TO GET MONEY SENT FROM HOME FOR GAS AND FOOD.  I WILL BE TAKING LEGAL ACTION

two week ago i rented a truck from u-haul.On July16-2005.it was on Saturday.Went to U-haul on Normandy Blvd in Jacksonville,Fla to pick-up my truck.I my contract receipt.read it until i got home.from moving.The contract said two hour uses of the truck.So i call u-haul,ask why just the truck for two hour,they said that what i ask for,I said no i couldn't ask for a truck for truck, i don't have enough time to do anything.So she bring back the truck and we won't charge you no late fee.I toke the truck back the same day.Put the gas back on half full.because it was half full when they give to me.I use my debit for everything.to get the point they toke 251.00 Out of my account.I call them back ask why did they take the money out of my account. They said for late fee, empty tank of gas.I told them late fee i bought your truck by the same day.And they were there.When i toke the truck by i said are you going to check the truck,the said no.

I recently rented a trailer at the U-Haul in South Reno. The trailer they hooked up to my car had graffiti on the side. I questioned the employee and he stated that they all get like this, and that is was ok to take it. Well, it wasn't ok, A week after I returned the trailer I was charged $200 for "cleaning". I went down to the rental location and was told that they would never rent out a trailer with graffiti and I would have to pay for it. I asked the General Manager to ask the guy who hooked it up to my car and he said he didn't have to, he was the GM and what he says goes. I was then asked to leave the premises. A court case is pending.

Cons: This authorized U-Haul dealer is very rued, a liar and a crook.

The worst service I ever got. The truck was old and filthy. The guy (named Chip) lied about the truck being full with gas. The fuel indicator was below full. I showed it to him and he said this is full, but when I filled it to return it, the indicator went way above where it was.
The truck had a sealed bag with blankets inside it. I did not use any of the blankets and the seal was still on the bag when I returned the truck. I was charged onto my credit card about 50 dollars for 3 missing blankets as he claimed. He, meaning "Chip" I guess got his name from chipping at people's wallets without justification.

Try to only rent from U-Haul or other provider's main stations and not from an authorized dealer.

If you ever want to rent in this area I highly recommend you do not rent from this location. This is my advice and warning. I think I did not say enough about this place, but I recommend you do not find out for yourself.

Reserved a truck via web site 3 weeks prior to move date. Was informed I would get a call before 5pm the day prior to move confirming pickup. I called after 5pm since they did not call only to hear they could not confirm anything. I found another way and will never recommend U-Haul. Big name - nothing behind it.

I placed a reservation for a one-way rental several months ago. I was told that someone would call me by 5 PM the day prior to my pick-up date. No one called me. I had a previous bad experience with U-Haul, so I called 800-GO-UHAUL around 2 PM that day to re-confirm (I called earlier in the week too), and was given another number to call, of the office that was handling my reservation. I spent well over an hour on hold, after being hung up on twice. After I finally got through to someone I was told that there was no truck for me, despite my "confirmed reservation".

Pros: None.
Cons: Outsourced operations are not really U-Haul, no one to complain if things go bad...

DO NOT EVER RENT A U-HAUL TRUCK FROM NON-U-HAUL CENTERS, THAT IS, FROM AGENTS WHO ARE NOT U-HAUL BUT HAVE A CONTRACT WITH U-HAUL TO RENT TRUCKS FROM THEIR BUSINESS/STORE. I made the reservation online with U-Haul, and was referred to a place called Gas for Public, an agent in Boca Raton, FL. Horrible overall experience. The guy showed up late, overcharged me for gas (the meter was broken), refused to take back the new unopened extra boxes sent by mistake by U-haul to my house 4 days after I moved... was incompetent, did not have the reserved boxes, sold me his for double price... long story... AND WHEN YOU COMPLAIN TO U-HAUL, THEY REFER YOU TO THE LOCAL CENTER, WHICH DOES NOT REALLY CARE...

Pros: You only have to wait 45 minutes to get connected to someone.
Cons: Ha; don't even get me started. Terrible customer service.

I made a reservation for a truck for a Saturday move.
The local office didn't call me before 5pm to confirm the pickup so I called the 800 number. They told me that they would call me back before 6pm. No call though, so I called them the next morning (the day we were supposed to move). Suddenly they had no record of my reservation. I was obviously steaming mad. We made reservations with Penske instead (Their service is great in comparison).
Well, I look at my bank account and they still charged me the $5 reservation fee. I called the local office and demanded the money back since they didn't have a reservation for me. They refused, claiming that the I had confirmed the pickup for 8am Saturday morning. I told them that I hadn't, but the lady told me to call the main 800 number. I call that number; they tell me that I had cancelled the reservation at 8am Saturday morning and that I would have to talk to the local office. And that's where I am right now. Grrr.

Cons: Completely unprofessional, U-haul simply sucks

I did a reservation on 10th for picking up truck on 29th. First of all their website sucks. They charge you $5 non-refundable and show no-accountability. The website mentions that the pick-up location would call to confirm timings. They don't call for a week. When I call up I am transferred from person to person without informing me. The people there are extremely rude and though I have reserved it for 24 hrs, they say it will be available only for 8 hrs. They cut off the phone without listening to me. I call them again and there is the same rude behavior again!

My fiance and I rented a uhaul to move into our new apartment which should have been a 40 minute drive.This is where the fun starts.got onto the highway we were going about 50mph when out of the blue felt like we had a flat tire. We pull over luckily my brother was following behind us. We exit the truck and see that the entire back wheel including the rim had flew completely off not only that but the one next to it was just hanging on. My brother explained that the lugnuts started shooting out one by one then the tire just flew off nearly hitting his vehicle .
So we contacted uhaul it took nearly an 1hr 1/2 for them to reach us and when they did they couldn't fix it .So we waited waited waited finally we had to drive back to uhaul and had to transfer everything from the wrecked truck to a new one.They gave us$150 for unpacking the trucks ourselves real nice so 7hours later we arrived at our destination in one piece. well next time we decided to hire movers.

After reserving a trailer well in advance of a family move, for a 7 a.m. start, U-Haul did not call to provide the pick-up point. The local dealer answered the phone, but explained that they had no time to help. After a combined total of three hours on hold at the national number, a non-English speaking representative promised a call back within an hour. No call. All arrangements for picking up several pieces of furniture fell through. Later in the afternoon, the local dealer answered after 15 minutes on hold, and promised a return call. No call. Finally, when the phones at U Haul were turned off at the end of the day, we gave up.

We just moved to Austin last week from St. Louis and took a 17ft. Uhaul. We reserved the truck months in advance and got a reasonable rate. One of the only problems I had was that they wanted me to pick-up the truck 30 miles from my location. I called to see if there would be pickup location closer to my home and they promised I could pick up the truck within 5 miles from home. The next morning, I called to confirm the truck was there and they had no idea what I was talking about. After 15 minutes on the phone, they located a truck 15 miles away.
The drive down went smooth, although 8 to 9 miles a gallon is absurd. Drop off was smooth as well.
Overall, not a bad experience.

Pros: The truck ran OK but was in need of a tune-up.
Cons: They lie, and cheat with a smile.

I recently rented a $19.95 a day small truck.
Agreed to the $1.39 a mile charge, and was told that If I kept the truck 1 minute past the 2:00PM 1-day (24hr) time i would be charged another day rental.- so I opted to keep it for 2 days.
At 7:00 PM the next day, the manager leaves this message:
"Mr H you were not here by 3:00PM today so I am going to levy a $250.00 fine against you and if the truck is not back here by 7:00 AM in the morning, I will call the POLICE AND REPORT IT STOLEN!"
I went back the next day and the counter person admitted the mistake, BUT, after I left the office,
U-HAUL CHARGED ME $1000.00 AS A DEPOSIT.
AND WONT REFUND THE MONEY FOR 10 - 14 DAYS.
Then they charged me $190.00 for the actual rental also!

Cons: I haven't been able to think of any cons.

I too am really shocked to see all of these negative reviews. I've only used U-Hual twice in my life that I can recall, and I certainly don't ever remember having a negative experience with them. The last time I used them was just 4 months ago. Everything went very smoothly; I even reserved a truck fairly late in the game. I only gave U-Hual a days notice, and they were able to accomodate me and my wife. I thought the customer service was good, as well as their trucks and equipment.

Pros: good truck.
Cons: good service.
