Toasted over this one!!! The Delonghi Retro Toaster has no modern capabilities......

by coops32 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Sep 16 '06
Pros: Gorgeous styling, nice ideas for function
Cons: cheap up close, can't toast if its life depended on it!
Delonghi 2 slice Toaster – great looks, but……… Back to the drawing board….. Well I grabbed this one thinking it was so cute and would be perfect for the beach house! I love the looks of this toaster and could not resist the retro ...

All show and no go.

Pros: Looks great, wide slots.
Cons: Very slow, doesn't toast evenly.
I bought the Delonghi RT200 from Sears (Canada) because our Toastmaster toaster finally packed it in after 51 years of service.

Frankly, I was attracted by the "retro" look of the Delonghi and the features. It has a great brushed aluminum...

Beautiful form, not so beautiful function

by ponyduck , Dec 17 '04
Pros: Looks great.
Cons: Doesn't toast evenly.
After a lifetime of owning only cheapo toasters, I decided with my kitchen remodel to go upscale a bit and buy a (relatively) pricey toaster. I saw this toaster and thought it would look perfect in my new retro-kitchen. And it does. However, it ...

Great looks but needs a little tweaking
by rinalarabie ,Oct 23 '03
Pros: Sleek design enhances any kitchen. Nice bagel feature.
Cons: Deep slots make retrieval an adventure.
Very stylish toaster from DeLonghi but it needs a few design improvements to really make it worth the price. 1) Toast needs an extra bit of lift at the end to save your fingers getting burnt especially on bagels and muffins. ( I hate having to use a utensil to retrieve cooked bread. 2) The sides of this toaster DO get hot! A handle on the back would have helped. 3) It seems to take a long time to toast anything. Now, the good news. 1) It looks really cool 2) Easy to clean finish and crumb tray 3) Bagel setting works really well if you turn the bagels cut side out. 4) Nice even toasting once you get used to the settings. 5) It looks really cool! (It's just that cool.) All in all, a nice toaster that could be even better if the manufacturer gave it the upper-end treatment to match the upper-end price.

So long
by epaquet ,Oct 15 '04
Pros: Beautiful retro design
Cons: Takes unbelievably long time to toast.
My wife bought this toaster because of its appealing design. But it is about the only quality of this toaster. I never saw a toaster that takes so long to toast a slice of bread. Really, don't buy this if you're in a hurry every morning.

Also, the mechanism to lift the toast does not lift it enough, so if the toast is not very tall, you have all sorts of problem to get it out.

A Real Let Down
by jmeredith62 ,Sep 03 '05
Pros: Great Retro Look Knobs and dials easy to read and use
Cons: Toast is inconsistent. You never know 'what color' the bread will be.
Received as a Christmas present and was thrilled. The Retro look was incredible. But that is where is ended. I've owned and grown up with much less expensive toasters that 'toasted' 100% better.

The knobs/dials are easy to use.

However the toasting quality just isn't there. I can use the same bread on the same settings and the results are NEVER the same.

I never expect miracles from a toaster, but this is truly a let down.

Also this toaster is NOT a cool-to-the-touch. I haven't seen or used one of these in years.

Worst...Toaster...Ever
by scout911 ,Jun 06 '06
Pros: Abosultely none.
Cons: Utter crap.
This is what you get for ordering online. This thing looks great in pictures, and you figure, "heck, they've been making toasters since the stone age, so surely it works well." Wrong. This thing is built with cheap materials, feels flimsy, and can't event toast well. I used mine once and ebayed it. It brought $10, and I felt bad about it. I had also purchased a Delonghi toaster oven at the same time, you know, to give my kitchen the full retro look, and it sucked even worse! I'll never buy this brand again. Look at Krups-now that's some good stuff.

Great style, no quality
by nancy53js ,Sep 27 '05
Pros: Looks good. Cancel button is handy, also bagel setting.
Cons: Slow, Slow, Slow and uneven.
I also bought the DeLonghi toaster for its style, and also trying to get a more upscale look. I thought for the extra price I would get good results. Wrong. My husband says the name is because it takes so long to toast. We like wheat bread and it usually takes 2 turns even though I set it at the highest. Toasts unevenly. Wished I'd been smart enough to return when I had the chance.

Just an ok toaster
by drcindyl ,May 08 '07
Pros: stylish
Cons: cheaply made
I was probably one of the first to buy this toaster, about seven to eight years ago. I paid $75 out of a trendy cooking catalog. It is cheaply made, very light. Cooks good toast. Nice body styling but scratches over time. Tray is difficult to remove. Overall, I liked it, but I like heavy duty items and this is not it.
