The stand mixer for kitchen freaks

by owling Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Aug 19 '02
Pros: Sturdy, large, flexible, and wonderful
Cons: Mild feed tube confusions
I admit it - I'm a kitchen freak, and so is my husband. We love to cook and we love kitchen gadgets. One of our first kitchen gadgets when we moved in together years ago was a 5 quart KitchenAid stand mixer - and oh, did we use and abuse it!

Kick it up another notch! With the Kitchenaid Epicurian Mixer

by macfreak88 , Mar 11 '04
Pros: Wonderful Customer Service, Powerful, Large Capacity, Stylish (Well, kind of)
Cons: Heavy, wont fit under my cabinets, A tad pricey, Premature failure
Well, after using the pasta maker for the third time on my old 4.5 quart Kitchenaid, it finally blew out after 8 years. I loved that mixer, and a pretty penny was put out for it too. So, that landed in the dumpster and I went out in search of a new mixer ...

Last mixer you will ever buy!

by genestra , Jul 08 '01
Pros: 475 Watts of WOW Power!
Cons: Can't believe they have a bigger one yet!
The thing that lures me to the KitchenAid mixers is the years that it has performed in my mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers kitchens. Tried and true, they just seem to get better with time. The Epicurean is no exception!

Working...

Not For Gourmets Only

by Haven2000 , Dec 21 '00
Pros: Capacity, Power, Quality, Warranty
Cons: Cost
I know what you're thinking; "What would a disinterested cook and admitted tightwad want with a $400 mixer called 'Epicurean'?" Well, my Dears, it's precisely because I am the original Disinterested Cook, and a tightwad, that the KitchenAid...

A mixer for people who seriously love to cook.

by Masque , Dec 20 '00
Pros: Powerful, high-capacity, standard KitchenAid quality.
Cons: A bit noisier than the older 4.5 and 5 quart models.
At first glance, this mixer appears to be simply a more expensive version of the older, five-quart 'Heavy Duty' model that KitchenAid makes, and which you will see on nearly all of the shows that Food Network airs. In actual use, however, this mixer...

Great mixer if you don't get a lemon

by teresa38 , Dec 07 '02
Pros: Heavy construction, large mixing capacity, good warranty service.
Cons: Repeated poor switch quality.
I received the 6 qt. Epicurian as a Christmas gift in December of '01. I was thrilled! I loved the style, the power, the Cobalt blue color and could not have been happier, until...I went to use the mixer one day and it would not turn on despite being...

Baker's Heaven

by framik1 , Nov 08 '02
Pros: A great machine for kneading bread dough and mixing double batches of cookies
Cons: Although it will do it well, this is lots of firepower for beating 2 eggs.
I got a refurbished Epicurean from Kitchen Aid via E-Bay auction. This was an indulgent birthday present to myself, but now I'm kicking myself for not having done this years earlier. It whips through tasks like beating egg whites, and a double batch of...

by straykat , Dec 19 '01
Pros: Warranty, Power, Brand name.
Cons: Head doesn't tilt.
After burning out many hand mixers, I finally decided to buy what I really wanted, a KitchenAid stand mixer. My Grandmother had one of these and my Aunt still uses it.
I bought it in white because I expect to have it for a very long time and don't...

Pros: nicely styled, strong motor, huge!

I have the Imperial Gray Epicurean 6 Quart Stand Mixer. These are the things that I really love about it:

THE BEST PRESENT I EVERY RECEIVED THAT KEEPS ON GIVING YEAR AFTER YEAR

by duloc , Mar 03 '08
Pros: Stylish, easy to use, easy clean up.
Cons: A little bit pricey, but worth every penny.
I received this fabulous mixer as a wedding anniversary present. It came with the standard attachments - dough hook, whip, and batter mixer. All of which are coated and super easy to clean up! There is also a large variety of attachments that can be ...

Not as great as I thought

by bigbuyer , Jan 02 '02
Pros: Big bowl, plenty of power
Cons: Speed switch is poor quality
The KitchenAid brand goes hand in hand with Hobart. Hobart makes those beefy industrial kitchen appliences. I have a five foot tall mixer at work. Built like a tank. We needed a smaller mixer for some R&D work in the laboratory (don't ask). I bought one...

Does everything but the dishes!

by croquemadame , Mar 07 '07
Pros: Large capacity, high quality, does an incredible job. Easy to use/clean.
Cons: High cost, very heavy, large, noisy.
This mixer is just incredible. It does everything but the dishes. Unfortunately, it's also very heavy, too heavy to be lifting into cabinets, so it lives on my kitchen counter full-time. Fortunately, mine is in the gorgeous retro jadeite green ...

Mother's Little Helper

by creampuff , Sep 09 '03
Pros: KitchenAid Reputation
Cons: Full Retail Price (But I got a GREAT sale at Kohl's!)
Originally received the Ultra but returned it holding out for the Epicurean. It was WELL worth the wait. Kitchen Aid style is a slick combination of workhorse industrial and decorator's choice colors. Bowl lift is marvelous (as long as you...

KitchenAid Epicurean

by deb0528 , Jun 18 '02
Pros: Large capacity; strong motor
Cons: Speed switch defective; No tilt head
I bought this mixer in December 2001, to upgrade from my 4 1/2 quart KitchenAid. Once you're used to the tilt head, this design is not as satisfactory. You must lower the bowl & drop the beater into your bowl of whatever before you can remove the bowl....

Excellent buy overall

by kscarroll54 , May 20 '02
Pros: Double batch of bread with ease. Relatively quiet. Very stable at higher speeds.
Cons: I haven't found any so far.
My husband gave me this for a Christmas present. I use it weekly for all sorts of things. I can mix a double batch of bread dough without any difficulty at all. It's easy enough to put together to use for smaller jobs, too. The housing is of heavy duty...

by lonelywarrior , Sep 30 '01
Pros: Strong motor, 6 speeds, great design
Cons: additional attachments are expensive

It comes with a sleek design and has easy accessibility. The bowl is 6 Qt, more than...

by dtecchio , May 25 '01
Pros: Great power, dependable
Cons: Overkill for most, takes up a large amount of counterspace
This is the grand daddy of them all. If you are into baking, and I mean baking, then this is for you. With 475 watts of power, it makes double batches with great ease. It has the bowl lift feature than enables the cook to place the mixer next to the...

Epicurean 6qt Stand Mixer

by aprilluff , Oct 19 '01
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Heavy
This is a wonderful time saver. Mixes everything fast and easy so you don't have to use a weak hand mixer. It's a little bit nosy, but that is minor in comparison to the time saved. I leave mine on the counter so I have easy access to it. It would be...

Too good to be true...

by starpey , Sep 08 '01
Pros: Wonderful capacity, strong motor
Cons: Takes up some space on the counter but is well worth it!
Stylish and dependable, that's what the Epicurean is. It can mix the toughest of doughes and it still keeps on working better than anything. It has three different blades it comes with and with these three you can do any of the mixing you will need....

Is there any other brand?

by condran , Jan 05 '01
Pros: There's only one KitchenAid!
Cons: None
I bought this mixer for myself for Christmas 1999. I love it! I don't know how I ever lived without it!

I do a lot of gourmet cooking, but used to "get by" with inferior equipment. I've seen these mixers on TV and at friends'...

A durable, dependable mixer
by gebaker ,Feb 03 '05
Pros: Solid, durable, easy to clean, 10 speeds
Cons: Heavy, large
We received this mixer for our wedding and I wasn't sure that I needed one quite so big. But, now I can't imagine cooking, baking, etc. without it. It is an extremely dependable mixer and the size is perfect for double batch cakes and cookie recipes. I have made everything in here including mashed potatoes!

We have also purchased a couple of accessories and have been please with them as well. The meat grinder is especially useful.

I highly recommend this mixer for someone who will get use out of it. It is a large appliance and really isn't for the casual kitchen dweller.
