I received an ILO DVDR05MU1. This is my first stand-alone DVD recorder. This recorder is intended to record programs off television, as well as create DVDs from my Digital Camcorder. Here we will explore both options. Note: The MU1 designation ...
Pros: Very easy to use, no-hassle recording and playback of DVDs Cons: The remote control can be confusing at times, but clearly labeled.
In mid-2005 I was in the market for a DVD recorder. Unfortunately a lot of the models at that time were priced WAY out of my league. More importantly, though, I required a model that offered a an IEEE 1394 (aka FireWire or iLink) connection so that I ...
Pros: WalMart accepts returns Cons: My recorder wouldn't playback anything it recorded
I purchased one of these from WalMart, model DVDR05MU manufacture date January 2006. I had researched online before purchasing the unit & I thought by getting the newest manufacture date that I'd be able to bypass most of the issues I had read ...
Pros: Discs are inexpensive, can record at a very high quality Cons: No universal remote control codes yet.
My Philips DVD player had gone dead after 4 years so it was time to buy another one. I had actually picked out another Philips DVD player when I saw this ILO DVD Recorder. I figure, for $30 more, it might be worth it. And like another reviewer said, I ...

Well, here is my small review. This is about the ILO DVDR05 sold by Walmart. The ILO-DVDR05 units are re-branded Cyberhome 1600 ZU. I purchased one of these units thinking it would be an "okay" unit because the price was so low. (I paid $89.95 ...
Pros: It puts out reliable recordings in 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, & 8 hour mode. Cons: Remote control is small.
I made sure to find a model marked MU1 after reading reviews online. This recorder is replacing a GoVideo Recorder that only lasted 1 year and 4 months before it failed. I can say from experience that this recorder has a lot of improvements from ...

I purchased this DVD Recorder today and was instantly dissapointed. First of all, it REQUIRES an RF Modulator (wal-mart about $10)..yet it has a built in tv-tuner..thats just silly. (NOTE: RF Modulator is supposedly only needed if you have a TV with ...
Pros: Much better than a vcr. Easy to find and manage recorded shows. Cons: mine broke in two weeks. only records 8 shows in timer recording.
I bought this unit about two weeks ago. It worked very well until a couple of days ago and then I started to get errors on all my recordings. It is annoying to record a show and then not be able to watch it. Moving from screen to screen on the menu is ...
Pros: Excellent price, records easily, good buy! Cons: Hooking up to lots of A/V stuff is complicated. Needs a day with the manual.
I was sooo excited to purchase this dvd recorder, the primary reason was so that I could transfer my old 8mm home movies to dvd, but also the price was undeniably tempting. just before christmas this year I bought this unit for 89.00 at Walmart. I ...
Pros: Umm...cheap? Cons: Limited programs
ANNOYING humming in recordings

Let me start off by saying that I am no technology newbie. I was programming Dad's VCR back in the day before all the on-screen display and stuff. I know my way around home electronics. Let me also say that I know my way around computers as well. ...
Pros: Easy to operate in play mode, light weight Cons: can't get record function to work
We bought this late in 2006. We decided to get the RW so that we could record as well as just play DVDs but I have not had any success at getting it to record. Granted I have not spent a great deal of time on it because I get frustrated and give up ...
Pros: Picture and sound quality is good. Nice price. Plays most DVD and CD Formats. Cons: A few bugs in the Recording schedules, Stops during programmed event. Missing programmed events.
This is my first DVD recorder, so I have nothing to compare it to. I was looking for another DVD player for another room but didn't want to spend a lot. I looked on the net for some and found Wal-Mart had a good looking one. I thought I would drop in to ...
Don't Lose Your Remote Control When Purchasing This DVDR! by thunder-pig ,Jan 29 '07
Pros: The machine is sturdy and reliable, performs well when subjected to heavy use. Cons: The remote control cannot be replaced with a universal remote control off the shelf.
I found the DVD Recorder to be no problem to operate, and have used it to record for 6 to 8 hours at a time about once a week for nearly two years now, and have not had one problem until I lost the remote, or it was stolen by someone who had lost theirs!
I have purchased, and returned dozens of universal remotes because not one of them worked...even models guaranteed to work with any device. I have yet to find a replacement remote offered for sale.
I recommend the machine, but only if you buy a learning remote at the same time, and program it to run the ILO DVDR05.
Pros: Cheap Cons: Has more issues on playback than all my other dvd players. Remote Control Response sluggish.
Does not playback DVDs very well, I can't get through more than 12% of my DVDs without having some issue. It's getting replaced this weekend. It also takes forever to do anything with the remote, there is like a 1 second delay between pushing the button and it responding, making it frequently go past the menu choice because one thinks it didn't get the button push.
OK for the price, but you get what you pay for. by thypentacle ,Aug 27 '06
Pros: Nice quality both sound and picture. Cons: Compatibility an issue on older players. Lack of good edit features/menu options.
The quality of recordings is rather good... only one problem, they don't play back on older players. I tested several DVDs, a few brands of DVD blanks, and even a few different firmware versions in the unit itself including the newest version sent by customer service that is not even available on the support site and found that the movies made only worked on about half the other players/computer drives I tried them on.
Granted, the players that they did work on were the newer ones... so, if you have no need for backwards compatibility on OLDER players/drives, buy this. Otherwise don't.
BTW, movies that I burn with Nero (new version 7.5.0.2) on my computer work on ALL the players/drives, so I know it is not the disc brand or me messing up something. My guess is it's either the encoder in the unit or the book-type setting being set wrong by the firmware.
One other little thing, the auto thumbnail thing always uses the first frame, which logic would suggest is the start of the movie, so that would be... black. This is annoying, so... a "no black thumbs" option in the firmware would be nice.
