camp Shane; a very large camp with a spa and full body massage every day... NOT! But, from what you pay for this camp they should through that in. I have stayed there for 6 weeks and this is not a luxary hotel! one camper hated it and said he wanted to go home every day for a week. But then he started to make some friends and have some fun, and instead of staying 3 weeks, he stayed 6. bottem line, thespoiled brats hate this camp. but the nice kids come to like it and, how knows, come back for a second year even when they lost the weight.
Is Camp Shane for real???? by arakelian ,Jun 02 '07
Pros: Friendships/confidence/fun/support/weight loss. Cons: cost
facilities need updating.
My 15 year old daughter asked to go to Camp Shane for the first time in 2005. Our first response was NO WAY!!!!!
I couldn't imagine her being away from home for six weeks with minimal contact. She persisted and after reviewing as much research as we could, we relented and let her go.
All I can say is THANK GOODNESS because it was the best decision we made for her. She returned from six weeks at camp 25lbs thinner and with a positive self esteem. She had a blast at camp and made lasting friendships with fellow campers and staff. She is returning to Camp Shane for her third summer and has convinced my son to come to Shane for the best summer of his life!
CAMP SHANE is a fabulous weight loss camp that promotes fitness and fun. by momanon ,May 28 '07
Pros: It is fun; the kids are active, make friends, the counselors build kids up. Cons: I wish there were meetings during the winter!
This is the best fitness and weight loss camp. My daughter loves it. It's lots of fun and builds self-esteem. It also teaches healthy eating habits--and your child wants to go and return each year. I wish they had a year round school!
When you can't do it, Camp Shane Can! by pacohen ,Sep 10 '03
Pros: The weight will come off and you will make some great friends. Cons: There are rules.
I would recommend Camp Shane to everyone!
What an experience I had. Growing up overweight did not hold the best childhood memories a kid could have, but the 5 summers I spent at Camp Shane were the best.
Yes, it is food controlling, but if that were not what I needed, then I would not have needed to go to a weight loss camp and would have not experienced such a weight loss success.
I came to Camp Shane as a camper, a CIT, a counselor and then a group leader and as a mother of 2 who do not need to loose weight, I am looking forward to sending my children to Camp Shane to experience the wonders of a great sleep-away camp.
Camp Shane is not just a weight loss camp; it is a summer camp experience that a lot of children should be lucky enough to experience. Kids leave camp with high self-esteem, pounds shed, a new attitude and knowledge to help them do their own food control when they get back home.
Strong friendships are made and eyes are open. Any child would thrive at Camp Shane, but an over-weight child would flourish.
Camp Shane - An amazing experience by spincity ,Sep 30 '03
Pros: Close friends, weight loss Cons: Food wasn't the greatest. Not enough calls home.
My 11 yr old daughter attended Camp Shane for 3 weeks this past summer. She made many new friends and can't wait to return next year. She lost 18 lbs while there and was very proud of herself. Her self esteem has improved 100% and it has made a world of difference at school this year as she started 7th grade. I want to thank Camp Shane for what they did for my daughter. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Great Great Great - Camp Shane by laino ,Oct 14 '03
Pros: Weight loss program works, structured Cons: Out going mail system should be upgraded
Just a short note to let you know how very pleased I was with Camp Shane. Clearly, speaking from a health issue which is so important to me, my child came home with a knowledgeable education of nutrition (always reading food labels), portion control and exercising - that she applied not only to herself, but to the whole family. She also learned how important it was to exercise daily. Her self-esteem was also greatly improved. When she came home from CS and after seeing family and friends I would watch their expressions when seeing her the first time after the weight loss and they were truly amazed. Not only was Camp Shane a great learning experience, it taught my child about nutrition, portion control and eating the right foods (something she would not listen too from her parents). Since the weight issue was an ongoing problem with her, we have finally conquered this tremendous burden - THANK YOU - CAMP SHANE - and she is keeping the weight off and exercising daily.
My Daughter Loves Camp Shane by veryhappymom ,Nov 07 '03
Pros: The counselors were very nice and the weight loss results are excellent. Cons: It is not an elaborate facility. There are not enough activities for bad weather.
Camp Shane has had a very positive impact on my daughter's and the entire family's life. I am very thankful that a friend told her about the camp. My daughter is 15 years old and went to Camp Shane for 2 summers 2002 and 2003. She had the time of her life. Not only did she lose weight, she also learned about good nutrition and made a lot of good friends. No the camp is not a country club, it is a camp. When she asked to go back a second year I asked her if it was the weight loss she liked or the camp. She loved the camp and of course the weight loss is a bonus. I have always found the staff very helpful and very interested in the kids welfare. Finding this camp was the greatest thing that ever happened to us. All the kids are in the same boat and the staff makes the kids feel very comfortable about themselves. I would highly recommend the camp and plan to send my daughter again next summer.
Camp Shane Really Works! 2003 by njannrose ,Oct 09 '03
Pros: Lots of activities both sports and social. Good camaraderie among the campers and counselors. Cons: Not much to do on rainy days. Food quality was not the best.
My 14 year old son attended Camp Shane for 6 weeks this summer (2003) and lost 35 lbs. Upon his return he has lost an additional 10 lbs. He had taken control of his eating habits and follows the guidelines he learned at camp. We no longer have arguments over food and his self esteem and confidence have definitely improved. Part of the reason for his success is that he was ready for camp. He was not forced! He wanted to go to camp. If this were not the case, I don't think he would have been able to make long lasting changes. They keep them physically active all day and limit their caloric intake. Food is not a centerpiece. Don't expect gourmet meals. It is not a country club atmosphere, but a camp located in a large wooded area.
Pros: Great place to meet new people, warm envirement and great weight losses! Cons: Somewhat disorganized.
This coming summer will be my fifth year attending Camp Shane. Although I am not quite at the weight I'd like to be at, I've managed to lose and keep off 50 pounds over the years. From the moment I first stepped foot on Camp Shane, I knew it was the place for me. I feel that my closest friend are made at camp and keeping in cont touche with them is no problem. By next year I will hopefully be working at camp Shane!
camp shane IS as good as it gets by ohohspaz ,Apr 27 '05
Pros: EVERYTHING, campers, staff, activities, tradition, spirit, weight loss Cons: the showersi guess..BUT WHO REALLY CARES! IT'S CAMP THAT'S THE FUN OF IT!
This is going to be my 3rd year returning at shane. For my first 2 years I was only able to go for the last 3 weeks because of other conflicting camps but this summer I have cancelled EVERYTHING just so I could spend my whole summer at shane, and I don't even really need to loose weight. I've been to 3 different sleep away camps and shane is by far the most fun I've ever had. Not only that, but you do loose weight. ALOT of it and I know I've not only kept it off, but it has encouraged me and taught me how to loose more on my own. The people there are jsut so amazing and it's an experience you'll never forget, and something you'll want to repeat every year. I couldn't even imagine a summer without shane anymore. So if you're skeptical, don't even think twice. You wont regret going/or sending your child to camp shane.
Pros: Children build self esteem where they have never before Cons: Started out with 12 councelors to a cabin of 40 children turned into 3/40
I was a counselor in 2003:
We had to have a talk with my 6-12 year olds about SEX!YES SEX!B/c some were considering it!
One of my children was sent to this camp because her sister went there.Shewas64 pounds and UNDERWEIGHT.She began having dizzy spells and getting sick and they WOULD NOT let her eat more! She lost SIX pounds! The water was cold... BEFORE ANY SHOWERS WERE GIVEN!We werent given any cleaning supplies. During color war etc, we would have to stay up until we finsihed banners posters etc. One day I personally ran on NO SLEEP for 2 days! I SWARE! NO SLEEP! There are laxatives in the salad dressing as well as the food (the cooking staff warned us)
One child tried to kill himself...Thank god there were counselors around.. whats the problem then? THey didnt tell the parents and had him stay there untill the end of the 9 weeks.Originally had six nurses...By the end of the summer we had ONE!I originally had 3 other staff members in my room and at the end i was the ONLY ONE.The children were constantly not nourished enough either. Please please please look out for the safety of the children!
Pros: Friends that last a lifetime, weight loss, fun times, the food [sometimes], sports available Cons: the food [sometimes], showers get a bit cold, first year is difficult.
I have gone to Camp Shane in 2005, 2006 and soon to be 2007 and each year gets better and better.
I will admit that the first year is incredibly difficult, and frustrating and at the end of the first year I didn't want to go back. But I thought about it and realized that I really did have a good time and the only reason I didn't want to go back was because I had gotten homesick. So I decided to go back for my second year.
Not only was I right, I had one of the best times of my life.
I saw people that I hadn't seen for a year and met new people who have, since camp, become some of my best friends. And while there were people that were not exactly a joy to be around, you find those people everywhere.
So I really recommend that you send your child to this place.
And they might not like it at first but they will soon warm up to it. [:
A home away from home!! by lifeguard1027 ,Jun 06 '08
Pros: great weight loss and the best friends ever!! Cons: camp is only 2 months!!!
This is my 7th year at camp but my first year as staff, Ive always attended for 9 weeks every time and if there was ever a conflicting family/school event head staff was always really understanding and helpful if i needed to come to camp a few days late or go home during the summer. While there are a lot of negative reviews, camp is absolutely what you make of it. A lot of campers are forced to go to camp and while they cant see at the time that its whats best for them i do think that is not the right way to encourage a healthy lifestyle for children. My first summer i came when i was only 9 years old but i WANTED to come so it was a really successful first summer and every year after that i have always lost an average of 20 lbs every summer, at my biggest point i was about 5'2 and 200lbs, a size 16 in womens and in the 7th grade, now i am a size 6 and 5'8....needless to say camp shane has changed my life in the most amazing way possible
A fun place to lose weight by lostinclouds19 ,May 21 '08
Pros: Kids lose weight without realizing they are working out! Cons: Too much salad! (but I do not like/eat salad)
Camp Shane was an amazing place to spend my summer. It was so wonderful that I decided to come back as a counselor this year. At camp kids can achieve many goals including: making long time friends, building self-confidence and of course shedding those extra lbs!!
Camp Shane is fun and good weight loss by nousername ,Nov 21 '05
Pros: weight loss, friends Cons: the hill to the dining hall
Camp Shane was one of the best experiences of my life- I'm definitely going back next year- Its kind of expensive, but its definitely worth it.. I went last year and I lost 23 pounds.. EVERYONE there is so friendly. Its so easy to make friends because no one is mean. and the food is really good, considering you're there to lose weight.. the counselors really care alot.. and the cabins are pretty nice, at least mine was.. and i made friends ill keep in touch w/ my whole life
Camp Shane: The worst decision a parent can make by auntanns ,Jul 02 '04
Pros: Slick web site
Cons: Disorganized, uncaring, arrogant, staff
My son was sent home after 2 days. The director told me he would send my son to Child Protective Services if he remained at camp.
My son's crime.. " shyness, anxiety and nervousness" He did not eat for 36 hours nor did he sleep. His first day at camp he did not want to participate in activities. He was sent to the " guidance building". He was labeled disrespectful( wouldn't participate ) and disruptive.
If you have a child who has difficulty becoming engaged initially.. he will be sent to the guidance office and reprimanded if he refuses to play.
There is NO REFUNDS ever. The camp doesn't have a physcologist on staff. They collect $5,000,000 in tuition and deal with a sensitive population.
If your child complains of the staff swearing or swearing at them.. don't report it to the director or the owner. They will identify your child as disruptive and send them home. If you speak on your childs behalf.. they will tell you that your child is a liar and fabricated all stories.
6 wonderful summers at Camp Shane by tobyweiner ,Sep 30 '03
Pros: Long lasting friendships, good facilities & staff Cons: Food is portioned. Maintain good eating habits at home to keep the weight off.
My daughter has had very positive experiences at Camp Shane. She has sent the past 6 summers at Camp Shane. During the first summer, she was shy & homesick for the first week, but she soon made lots of friends & began to participate in the activities & shows. She gained confidence & lost weight. She said the summers went by too quickly (she always went for 9 weeks). Many of the counselors were previously Camp Shane campers known as "Shaners" & they know how to make campers feel welcome & make summer camp a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend Camp Shane. My daughter looks forward to being a counselor at Camp Shane.
Life Altering Experience by cjcovellsmom ,Sep 30 '03
Pros: The program is realistic. Their web site is great for parents to see what's happening. Cons: The only con is the camp laundry looses a lot of socks!
While researching a summer camp for our 11 year old son, we spent many hours pouring over web sites and studying promotional literature for various places. No other camp provided more info or had more reputable supporters than Camp Shane. The camp provides three sessions of varying lengths; three, six, and nine weeks respectively. We thought that three weeks would not be long enough for our son to make any permanent lifestyle changes; that nine weeks was too long for him to be away from home for the first time; and that six weeks would be the best for him. WE WERE SO RIGHT! He absolutely loved his time at Camp Shane. To say that he thrived in their atmosphere would be precise. Yes, he lost weight, but the self confidence and feelings of accomplishment he gained there are priceless. We feel that his time at Camp Shane did indeed alter his life. He remains true to the camp's weight control plan of more calories expended than consumed. He goes outside and plays, rides, and hikes. And best of all, he exudes so much happiness and confidence that we swell with pride.
Pros: Everyone fits in and goes back to school the upcoming year feeling and looking great! Cons: NONE!! =)
This upcoming summer will be my 3rd consecutive year attending Camp Shane. I can honestly say that I have had the greatest experience of my life over the past three years. My self confidence has grown, I have met friends that will last a lifetime, and I have lost a tremendous amount of weight. Everyone there, counselor and campers, are extremely supportive and understanding. I have been to many other camps before Shane and nothing compares! The activities at camp are fun and you forget that you are losing weight until you look in the mirror or step on the scale and see the positive results. Camp Shane has helped me grow into the person I am today!
The best experience that will change you inside and out!! by shensch ,Dec 11 '07
Pros: weight loss achieved, lots of encouragement, support, new friends, caring staff, lots of fun! Cons: the food and need more ACCURATE pictures on the website.

best summers of my life..my summer family :) by litalovesyouu ,May 19 '08
Pros: the friendships you make, the weight you lose Cons: leaving after 9 weeks :(
I have been going to camp shane for many years and the times I had there have been unforgettable. I was a camper for 5 summers and I spent two summers home, but I couldn't stay away and decided to be a counselor last summer. My life has truely been changed by all of the experiences, good and bad, that I went through at this place. I have grown so much as a person and learned so many things about myself that I might never have discovered without this place. I learned how to take chances and risks no matter how likely (or unlikely) I am to succeed, and I learned that not everything in life is easy and fun, but I learned how to get through the hard stuff while being there. I have made so so many friends over the years and I have so many amazing memories. This place is an amazing way to spend your summer, make a ton of friends, get in shape, and have a ton of fun while doing it all!
A Great Place to for A NEW START by jess102938 ,May 26 '08
Pros: lifetime friendships, build support system, awesome activities, friendly staff, build muscle & lose fat Cons: well it's a summer camp, so don't expect to be living at a spa.
Camp Shane is a great place to get a jump start on getting healthy. It's kind of like food & exercise rehab. If you can allow your body to live for a few months in a place where you eat good food and exercise you get used to living healthy. Camp Shane is a perfect place for this to happen. It's a place where everyone has a similar goal, and everyone supports each other in reaching it. Not only do you start feeling better physically, but you also have an opportunity to build bonds with people from all over the world.
Pros: structured! Open-minded! Cons: I dont have any!
This past summer was one of the best experiences of my life. At first I was nervous about going to camp because I didn't know anyone but I was proven wrong! On my first day, I made amazing friends that are going to last a life! The staff at Camp Shane was so inviting as well as supportive! They helped me achieve what my goal truly was! I lost 15lbs in one summer and have kept it off for exactly one year this month! I went from a size 11 to a size 5/6! I loved Camp Shane and can not wait for this summer's experience!
Camp Shane, A step in the right Direction by lancenyc83 ,Mar 18 '06
Pros: Excellent Weight loss, one of a kind social opportunities, unique activities, friendly staff Cons: Strict Diet
After being a Camper for 6 years (95-00), I decided to return as staff for Summer of 2005. Camp Shane was even better than I remember.
Battling obesity throughout my life, "big guy" was probably the nicest thing I've ever been called. The only time I ever shed that label was during my summers at Shane:
I got to play point guard on the basketball team, was a leading character in one of the plays and learned there was more to a social life than sitting by the punch bowl at a dance.
Camp Shane gives you a head start and a heads up on a healthy life style. It sends you home thinner, healthier and with knowledge of how to maintain your weight loss.
Aside from the unique social setting it offers, it also sends you home with extra confidence.
I entered Camp this summer weighing 267lbs. I left camp at 248lbs and am now currently hovering around 235lbs.
Being healthy and keeping your weight down is an everyday struggle, but Camp Shane puts a step or two in the right direction.
I left my Heart at SHANE!!! by saravibes88 ,May 08 '06
Pros: great fun, good people, color war Cons: the fact that its only 9 weeks, the food on occasion
As a 8 year member of this fantabulous place, i just want to say that i LOVE spending my summers here. I meet the greatest counselors who are super caring and only want the best for their campers. It's my home away from home, and my spiritual calling with the fusion of nature and cleansing with health as the goal. It's so FUN!!
Camp Shane it's a feeling, not a place (summer 2005!) by laurenbaruch ,Jan 05 '06
Pros: The vive, People, Support, Weight Loss, Friendships, FUN FUN FUN, new experinces, EVERYTHING!!! Cons: Camp is only 2 months out of the whole year!
When i went to camp this summer I figured I'd loose some weight and make some new friends. When I went to camp I didn't have to focus on loosing the weight, it came off by itself. All I had to do was participate. I think the best part of this camp is the vive you get from it. Before I came to camp i was very unhappy about myself. When I came to shane i felt like I could be myself and gained a confidence that I never had. I made so many amazing friends and I do not understand how I lived 14 years without them. I think it is amazing that so many young people can come together for one common goal. There are so many benifits to camp besides the weight loss. I belivie that if you give Camp Shane a chance, it WILL change your life for the better. So many opertunties and new experiences. I think the people who wrote negitive reviews about the camp do not have an open mind. Camp shane was the best experiance of my life and i will tell anyone and everyone that!
Pros: Outstanding weight loss, friendships, a boost in your self esteem Cons: You must always work as hard as you can
I have attended Camp Shane for the last two summers and I am looking foward to my third summer this year. The past two summers have been the best two summers of my life. Each summer, thanks to the excellent staff and programs which are offered at Camp Shane, I have been able to reach my weightloss goal each year. Camp Shane offers many fun activities in where each member of group is important. At Camp Shane we are a Team( together everyone achieves more). The counslors and campers are really what make this camp and excellent experience. Both the counslors and campers really want you to succeed. Counslors provide constant motivation and they also become your friends. I have personally walked away with many friends including campers and counslors. Camp Shane has helped me to become a better person.
An unforgettable experience by lucachi12089 ,Jan 24 '06
Pros: Meeting new people, losing weight, gaining self confidence Cons: the summer is too short
I was a camper at Camp Shane two summers in a row and they were the best two summers of my life. I met people that I will be friends with forever and while I was there I felt like I was at home. The campers aren't the only people there who make the camp fun and exciting; the staff consists of people who truly care about each camper and how they progress through the summer and it's very comforting to know that everyone is rooting for you. Everything about camp shane is amazing. The activities are fun, the people are fun, the food is good, and the experience is unforgettable. What else could you ask for?
Pros: Healthy, friendly, caring , and awesome environment Cons: leaving and having to miss your friends all year
I have worked at Camp Shane for two summers, and they have both been amazing. As staff i went to have a great time, work with kids, and loose some weight.. The feeling once you enter that camp is honestly something that words cant even describe. When children first walk in some of which return year after year, however there are many new faces too. The food is actually normal food, not diet food, and the nutrition classes are amazing, they teach you how to prepare all different types of meals, as well as tips of what to do when you arent sure if a food is health or not. As well it helps children react to food scenarios such as restaurant settings, and holiday situations in terms of what they can or cant eat. I met friends from all over the world, and cant wait to see them again!... i had the same bunk both summers, we kept in touch throughout the year, and i have such a great bond with them. I am hoping to go back again... truly an unforgettable summer... and great experience for kids and adults!
Pros: You lose weight Cons: bad facilities, poor pay, uncaring head staff, weight comes back
I was a counselor at Camp Shane in 2001. The reason I applied was I love kids, I had many fond memories of camps from when I was a child, and had just recently lost a lot of weight myself, and I wanted to help bring that joy to kids who struggled with obesity. I flew out to New York, and took a bus to the nightmare that would be my summer.
I was going to write a longer review but I think that the review "Nightmare Experience! Please Read!" sums it up perfectly. If you plan on attending Camp Shane. Read that review first.
Pros: making amazing friends, losing weight, and lasting relationships Cons: rainy days (but who can help that?)
I better summer... impossible! Camp Shane was an amazing experience, not only a fun, easy way to lose weight, but memorable at that. I made a tremendous amount of friends with whom I still talk to daily, and love! Granted, it could be strict at times, but only because the counselors are very goal oriented, and want the campers to really reach their highest potentials. Now, six years after my first summer at Shane, I still count down the days until I can return to my second home. The weather is fantastic, grounds are clean and beautiful, and best of all, the overall experience is unforgettable and life changing. I really can't stress enough how much fun I had as a camper at Shane for four whole summers.
Pros: Amazing staff, amazing results, amazing activities, ALL GREAT! Cons: I couldn't stay longer
Some of these reviews are super bogus!! I am a 14 year old girl who returned from camp shane in August 2005. I was 45 pounds over weight and lost 35!! It was really fun and the counslors are amazingly cool. It's true that the food ain't too great but, come on for 35 pounds it is totally worth it! The bunks/cabins are totally what I expected them to be, and just because your children may be spoiled rotten (like me) they can survive 3-9 weeks without a/c. Trust me your child or you will have the time of your life! They allow the boys and girls to get together and have dances with professional dj's and they are always tons of fun. GO CAMP SHANE FOR LIFE BABY!! WOOHOO
Pros: kind of fun. Cons: expense, facilities, disorganization.
I attended Camp Shane in the summer of 2005 at 17 years old.
I went to Camp Shane not expecting anything more than a normal camp.
However, the camp was incredibly unorganized...
meals were late, and plumbing was broken.
We were forced to use other cabin's bathrooms, invading their personal space.
There was also an awful stench, from the bubbling waste in the yard.
I left after three days because I couldn't take the disorganization, and I got no money back.
Also, I weigh only 170 pounds, and I was one of the heaviest girls there... not helping me feel any better about myself.
Camp shane in my heart forever! by alissabrown ,Nov 05 '05
Pros: amazing weightloss, lifetime friends, great facilities, staff members who truly care, great weather Cons: missing junk food, working out harder than some are used to, saying goodbye
Camp shane has become so much more than just a summer weightloss camp! It's become an entire world for people to go in the summer to recharge their entire lifestyles, to revamp the old....and to start over with the new! Right away everyone there seemed so excited and confident....even if everyone shares the same or different insecurities....none of that mattered. The staff members were so welcoming and caring and kind. Kids don't just get fat--it happens over time, and by talking about our bodies and how we know we have the capability to change ourselves for the better, helped us work through why we were bigger in the first place. . I am not going to lie and say that overnight you completely transform-- I had to make the extra effort by running during my free time, and by taking extra work out classes but the truth is as anything else in life is: you get out what you put into it! I totally ended up seeing results!! . I lost 21 lbs my first summer at Shane in 9 weeks I couldn't have been prouder.
Pros: Everything listed above. Cons: Kids tend to get homesick but "Camp Mom" is conveniently there to help all campers.
If I had to sum up Camp Shane in one sentence, it would be, Camp Shane has changed my life and will forever be a part of me. I can only thank Camp Shane for the transformation in myself. Going from being the overweight girl who felt lost and alone in the world, to becoming a confident, healthy, young woman has made me realize that every young person in that situation has a light at the end of the tunnel. Not only have I made friendships unlike any other, but I am now able to look at a person and see so much more than what is on the outside. My Camp Shane family knows my struggles and knows what the pain and tears feel like. They are able to see what I have gone through and help me through present and future struggles. I decided that I needed to make a change in my life to become a healthier, better me. What I didn’t know was that I would take away so much more than that. Without Camp Shane, I would not be the person I am today. Thank you Camp Shane
Best Summer My Son has Ever Had by rosali3 ,Nov 15 '05
Pros: Everything from weight loss to more confidence and much more excercise, amazing nursing staff Cons: Many pairs of socks missing
What can I say about this camp. My son arrived there being overweight but left 36lbs lighter 6 weeks later. With a much better attitude about life and much more self esteem. The staff for the most part was amazing. The Owner David Ettenburg is one of the most kind and caring man that I have ever met. My son made such good friends he talks to a few of them on a weekly basis via telephone, writes to another that lives in Colorado, and talks to various others on the internet. Quite frankly I can not believe people could say such horrible things about this amazing camp
I can't explain how much I love this place by hannahsducks ,Mar 31 '06
Pros: everything Cons: camp ends
I cant say anything about how PERFECT camp was i love everyone especially the director ! I made great friends, and had the best time of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CAMP SHANE - SUMMER OF 2007 by sadatcamp ,Aug 18 '07
Pros: meeting new friends who are trying to get in shape Cons: so many..food, the amount of exercise? organization,
activities and on and on
I was so excited to send my daughter to camp Shane
we looked at the site together and i was really interested
in a fun camp which taught about healthy eating and exercise
i was shocked at what the camp really was....
my daughter stayed for three weeks because she wanted so bad to lose weight. This camp was her choice.
I understood they would choose things they wanted to do
NOPE... Also thought they had a variety of foods to eat
NOPE.... Also thought they were organized NOPE
I will never send her back.. I would suggest parents to really investigate before you send your child
my daughter said she counted down every second to get back home it was three weeks of hell....
Camp Shane is camp SHAME!!! by computer101 ,Jul 05 '04
Pros: Attractive Web Site Cons: Unsupportive,Uncaring,Arrogant,Self-Righteous Ownership,
We just lost a $10,000 investment in our son's self esteem. Our sons attended camp for 3 1/2 days and were sent home.
The owner assured us that the camp had experienced staff to support nervous anxious children. They DON"t.
The staffs goal is to send home any child who has any trouble fitting in because they are disruptive to the program.
The goal: Remove the child because their is no risk to Camp Shane. They keep the $10,000 with their NO REFUND policy and fill your spot with other children.
There are no second chances. If your child starts with a bad rep( will not participate) then they are sent home even if your child asks to stay. No second chances..
If your child has a complaint.. the owner and staffs position is to identify your child as disruptive. They have no TIME or desire to assist children having difficulty adjusting.
If you want an uncaring boot camp.. send your child to Camp Shane. If you want to risk being ripped off.. go to Camp Shane.
I'm shy and Camp Shane is great! by babybivona ,Jun 10 '09
Pros: friendly, clean, really lose weight, great counselors, no cliques, fun Cons: no cons
This is the second time I’ve gone to Camp Shane. I am very shy and not outgoing at all, yet I had a great time at Camp Shane two years ago. It is a warm, friendly place and since everyone has a common issue (weight loss), we all bond very easily. There are no cliques at Camp Shane. Everyone is always made to feel welcome and comfortable. Weight loss in not easy, but the camp makes it as enjoyable as possible. My personal favorite is the aerobics classes. Camp Shane is a great place to make friends, lose weight and have a great time. The first time I went I was 15. I am 17 and can’t wait to go back. I also lost 32 pounds the last time and looked great when I went back to school in the fall. This time I’m older and more committed to keeping the weight off when I get home.
I can’t believe anyone would write anything bad about this camp. Believe me, it must be them, because I've been to several camps and Camp Shane is the best!.
