Pros: Truly geared to weight loss! Great source of friends sharing common goals and issues. Cons: If you are out-of-state, transportation costs are a fairly large addition to the fees.
My son & daughter have both attended Camp Shane. My son, whose weight reached 280 pounds at age 15, attended for 4 weeks in 2001 and 3 weeks in 2002. In 2002, he was joined by my daughter (age 13) who was probably 30 pounds too heavy. She was motivated ...

Pros: Friends, weight loss, physical fittness, learning to stick with it even when things weren't perfect. Cons: Not enough activities for age group, inappropriate entertainment, staff turnovers, not run efficiently, laundry facilities.
This camp is really best for teenagers. The activties are geared to that level and the entertainment is not interesting to kids younger than 13. It was our understanding that the children would be able to take part in all kinds of activities. However, ...

Camp Shane is like Camp Green Lake in the book "Holes". It's not what it's cracked up to be! The facilities are disgusting and border on unsafe and unhealthy. The beautiful, pristine "lake" they show you in brochures and on the website they neglect to ...
