Camp Toccoa a wonderful experience!
by maccreative ,Nov 02 '07
Pros: ACA certified, large property, rustic, safe, great personnel, ages 7-17
Cons: No air conditioning except what you get by diving in a pool or canoeing!
My children and their friends have fond, fond memories of their camp experiences at Camp Toccoa. I have personally spent many weekends there and have first-hand knowledge of the facilities and programs.

This is a character-building adventure with age-appropriate activities for children from 7 to 17. My youngest was only 6 when she first went for a week to Camp Toccoa, and it was a great experience for her. Both of my children attended for several years and it helped shape the kind of people they are today.

Get your kids away from the computer and t.v. this summer and let them experience the growth and fun in an ACA-certified program. They will learn about themselves, about teamwork and about the natural world around them...and they'll create memories that will last a lifetime!

Great exposure to outdoors for diverse youth
by luckyleslie ,Nov 02 '07
Pros: Great Counselors, Great traditions, Beautiful property, Diverse campers, Strong programs and values
Cons: 2 week sessions may not be offered any more.
I attended Camp Toccoa for 9 years between 4th and 12th grade. Camp Toccoa is a beautiful and safe place for young people to gain exposure to the outdoors and meet others of diverse backgrounds. Most campers come from Georgia's inner city, suburbs, and rural areas, though there usually a few campers from other states or even other countries. The staff is usually all American, so counselors are hired for their love of children, the outdoors, and tradition, not in their interest of living abroad in the US for a few months. I attended traditional camp, adventure climbing camp, and the counselor-in-training program. To this day, my best friends were made at Camp Toccoa. Camp Toccoa cherishes the diversity of its community members rather than tolerating or homogenizing them. The property is beautiful and full of history. Camp Toccoa promotes universal values for strong individuals and communities such as love, friendship, acceptance/support, creativity, adventure, and respect for nature.

A Summer Experience!
by phredsmom ,Oct 28 '07
Pros: Perfect place to recover from helicopter parents. Interesting stuff to do, fresh air, low stress.
Cons: Sorry, no ensuite bathrooms or room service!
This is a traditional summer camp in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, offering canoeing, horseback riding, arts and crafts, archery, swimming, hiking, and outdoor skills such as fire-building, etc. - in other words, stuff everyone ought to know. We have gone to this camp for three generations, and I can attest that it is one heck of a way to spend your summer.

And make friends for life!

Summer Magic
by ameasha ,Nov 03 '07
Pros: Fun traditional camp experiences, beautiful setting, close to Atlanta
Cons: Vegetarian food is available but lacks variety
I was a camper and counselor at Camp Toccoa for almost 10 years. It is a wonderful place to grow up. They have all the traditional camp activities - canoeing, arts & crafts, archery, drama, sports & games, a high ropes course, horseback riding, etc. Evening activities include cookouts, camp-outs, theme nights, and a council fire to end the week. This is a camp where children really unplug for the week and spend time looking at the stars and laughing together. I highly recommend Camp Toccoa.
