Pros: Everything this camp has to offer! Cons: There are none!!
My name is Krista and I have been going to the Maine Golf Academy for the past three years. I have enjoyed every day of my weeks there and have learned so much. This camp truly does have it all. In the morning, after breakfast is eaten, there is golf...
Pros: Number of International campers Cons: very disorganized, bad food, not prepared for campers needs . too expensive, terrible tennis program.
I have used this camp for both my children, 1st was for tennis. I was horrified how little my daughter's tennis improved after a month on this camp, I addressed this with the camp owner( this year), he tried to use pop psychology to explain why my ...
As a member of the staff in 2008 & 2009, i can say, that it is all about the money. A fine example would be the biweekly rafting trip whick the camp charges 75.05$ more than what the rafting company does per camper, 125$! constant ...
The Maine Golf and Tennis Academy is a great place for children and families. Having participated in several camps as a youth, I can honestly say that the children who are able to attend the camp are given a great opportunity to make friends from all ...
Pros: Golf Pros Cons: The Camp program cheats the kids of golf instruction.
The Owner.
My son, 14, attended this camp for golf instruction. We were very disappointed and would never recommend it to anyone. There was no where near the amount of golf instruction promised (7-8hrs/day), the best was 3hrs. They fill the day up with other activities (cheaper) that can be run by the 16-17 yr old counselors and not the Pros. The food was scant, and poor. There were no snacks. My son would call home hungry! The place itself is very disorganized. The owner is extremely non-responsive and has very deceptive business practices. Considering the price is quite steep, you are better off going to a golf pro at a club or course where you will get what you pay for!
Ethical Camp; Unethical Former Counselor by pgroy ,Oct 01 '09
Pros: Professional StaffInternational flavorEthical Value System Cons: Rainy weather
That staff members need to be terminated on occasion may be deemed as a negative thing to the affected staffer, but parents can take heart that this Camp has the ethical & professional attitude needed to run a summer experience for kids. As a volunteer at this Camp, and a multi year employee at another Maine Camp, I saw first hand what a great Camp experience is. Are their chaotic moments? Ah yes, its a given, at any Camp. Are staff fired for using pot? Maybe, but its so easy to hide this behavior that my bet is the fired staffer was released for having a value system that was out of sync with the camp culture. The Camp culture at the Maine Golf & Tennis Academy is one that any parent can embrace. The experience for campers is a real world learning opportunity filled with fun, learning, memories & friends that last a lifetime.
Pros: One son played hs golf, the other learned golf, enjoying trips and the water. Cons: Considering the challenges of a sports camp for teenagers with young councilors, the rules are strict.
Our two sons have gone to the Maine Golf and Tennis for 4 and 6 years respectively. They have always had a great time. The pro staff is incredible.
Fabulous experience at Maine Golf and Tennis Academy by cynthiaanne ,Oct 15 '09
Pros: Everything you would ever want in a camp and more! Cons: Can't think of anything.
My son and daughter attended the tennis and golf camp, and our whole family attended family camp there at the end of the season. We all had a fabulous time. The quality of the instruction was top-notch. The camp is in a beautiful setting and we greatly enjoyed swimming and boating on the pristine lake. The food was terrific (and my kids are finicky eaters). The staff was incredibly eager to please. I cannot rave enough about this camp! (Honestly, I think it is irresponsible of this website to allow disgruntled ex-employees to spout off their negativity. BTW the whitewater rafting excursion was a real highlight of the trip -- of course the camp would charge for the 1-hour van ride!) Se we are HUGE fans of Maine Golf & Tennis Academy and cannot wait to go back next year.
Pros: Friendly and courteous staff Instruction is top class. Location is gorgeous Cons: Far from urban areas.
Having been involved with this camp for over a decade now I can honestly say it has improved and become better ever year; a hard task to complete when you've been going strong as a summer camp for over 100 years! I'm positive I will be sending my (future) children there when it comes time.
Pros: Sound sports instruction frequent activities and trips Beautiful scenery Cons: Maine weather can be unpredictable
I am currently employed by the camp and have been with Joel and Crista for the past 3 years. I can say with certainty that some of the statements on this page are false and outrageous.
From what I have seen in my time at the camp, the kids are happy and enjoying themselves. There are frequent activities and trips for them to participate in and lots of time for them to have fun with new friends. If they kids didn't like the place, why would so many of them come back?
MGTA is not the prison camp that some people make it out to be. We try our best to provide sound sports coaching, rounded with fun activities and play time.
