Pros: exquisite art deco decor, lots of little extras, prime location Cons: it isn't free?
When I grow up and become a famous and respected author, I am going to reserve a room at the Maxwell Hotel in San Francisco, so that I may work upon my next novel in peace and relative luxury. Also so I have legitimate reasons to spend more time in San...
Pros: Magical. Old world charm Cons: Missing some of the amenities of modern hotels. Small rooms.
This is a magical hotel, I'd return to any day without second thoughts. It's one of those hotels that don't have all that a bland modern corporate hotel has to offer, but this hotel is still unique enough to offer a very unique experience that one can ...
Pros: extra towels Cons: bathroom disgustingly moldy & room smelled of kitchen exhaust. staff not helpful.
My husband and I had high expectations for a wonderful stay at what appeared to be a lovely deco hotel. We were greatly disappointed. Although the room had been booked months in advance, we were given a room at the end of a dark hallway. Right beside ...
Pros: Good location Cons: Poorly sealed windows, old "in-the-window" heading and a/c, mediocre staff
I have stayed at other Joie de Vivre properties and have never been this disappointed. The rooms are a decent size but are marred by the fact that the windows are old and don't seal the substantial racket coming from the street. Additionally, for a...
Pros: Vintage hotel which has a lot of character. Easy access to Union Square Neighborhood. Cons: Looks haunted, but cool. Hard to find parking.
I like this hotel actually. The Place is steps away from the shopping areas, theatre district and restaurants.
The building is old, but has a lot of character. The hotel rooms are painted red and black.
I have stayed here several times and...
Pros: good location , decent value Cons: small rooms
It was some time ago I stayed here but, I found the rooms to be SMALL but nice for an artist type crowd (3star). The bathrooms also small but had alot of nice amenities . The room I stayed in was extremely clean. You can't ask for a better location, you can walk to just about anything from here. And there is a parking garage right down the street. Also big fluffy towels! Nice helpful people at check in with maps.
Pros: Great location and value Cons: Room could be a little bit cleaner
I stayed at the Maxwell basically to save money. I was attending a medical meeting at the Fairmont five blocks away, and my per diem would not allow the $289.00 per night convention rate at the latter property. The Maxwell has one of the best locations in a big city that I've ever seen. It sits next to the more famous St. Francis hotel, is one block from Union Square and its department stores, and is an easy walk to Chinatown, Market Street, and the Embarcadero. The staff is unfailingly polite and helpful. The hotel is of course close to numerous fantastic restaurants. Just be warned. For those who are attending a meeting or convention in the Fairmont or another Nob Hill luxury hotel, but want to save money by staying at the Maxwell: You will probably never experience a steeper five urban blocks than the 10 minute hill trek that gets you to the top.
