Pros: Invigorating & relaxing, something for everyone, immaculate, opulently ornate decor, massive property.... Cons: Inconvenient Housekeeping schedule, dim lighting in main Lodge
Cheeca Lodge & Spa is located in Islamorada, Florida on Upper Matecumbe Key, on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Florida Keys. The anticipation might kill you as you're driving from Miami international---if the traffic on the Florida Tpke doesn't! Its ...
Pros: Ocean view room, beautiful grounds Cons: Rooms in the main building are noisy due to bar below
We stayed in a renovated oceanfront king room. I think that the renovated rooms are only in the main building. Staying in one of the other buildings would be preferable. The first room they gave us was right above the bar. The band below is extremely ...
Due to the specifications of my father, my family has never taken a spring break trip to anywhere but a spot where he could either cast a fishing line and drive a boat. Being from the Chicago area and always anxious to escape the unpredictable,...
Pros: Atlantic Edge restaurant. Great breakfast buffet. Saltwater lagoon. Beautiful grounds. Outstanding service. Cons: At low tide beach a little smelly
Whoever landscaped the resort is a genius. Best service we have ever encountered. So quiet we thought we were the only guests. We go down to the keys every few years but have never stayed at Cheeca Lodge. This will be the ONLY place we will stay in next ...
Pros: Wonderful service, Atlantic's Edge Restaurant(heaven!) Cons: Price & too many children in pool.
I spent a few days at the Cheeca this past June 04 and really enjoyed the service and relaxation they had to offer. It was very enjoyable and I felt a little out of place at first since I am used to staying at a Comfort Suites etc. They open doors, wait ...
Pros: Service overall was excellent. Very cordial and helpful staff. Cons: Three of the four Jacuzzis broken during renovation.
I just stayed at the hotel during Thanksgiving week 2003. The hotel has been purchased by Rock Resorts. The hotel is undergoing major renovations. The main lodge is finished, the grounds are in progress and the out building hotel rooms are to be ...
Pros: A tropical escape paradise with nice atmosphere Cons: Only 1 small pool; you couldn't go into the ocean from the beach
Cheeca Lodge is a lushly landscaped resort by the Atlantic Ocean in the Florida Keys (Islamorada to be exact). The lobby was comfortable and our room was a garden suite with a small verandah, a spacious bathroom, a casually elegant sitting room, and a...
Pros: roomy family suites
nicely laid out grounds
excellent restaurant
very friendly staff
wonderful spa Cons: one-star housekeeping
moody elevator
limited wade-in beach access
gravely sand beach
Overall this property met all of our expectations. I docked it for very poor housekeeping and for it not having a beach with sand that was more playable (a Keys thing). We had a total of 6 people in our party including 2 1/2 year old twins, 1 year old...

Pros: Welll appointed deluxe rooms, Oceanfront, clean Cons: expensive, pool could have been more elaborate.
We had a large room w/enclosed patio very very close to the ocean, like right on the beach. Covered garage too.
Large well appointed rooms & baths. Nice restaurants with excellent food. Parasailed and spent a couple days at the Dolphin Research Center, oh yeah the fishing is great too!
Hammocks on the beach, total relaxation.
Pros: Nice linens, lovely lunch buffet - reasonably priced, beautiful ocean view, an adults-only pool. Cons: Noisy construction, non-working jacuzzi, inconsistent housekeeping services, no lighting at elevator.
My husband and I were given a week-long trip to Cheeca Lodge for Christmas. We love the Keys, and especially Islamorada, and have been there many times though this was our first stay at Cheeca. We choose to stay in May as this is supposed to be good Bone and Tarpon fishing time. The weather was great at this time of year, not too hot or cold. Desk staff, Tiki bar staff, spa, butlers and concierge were extremely accommodating. Housekeeping was inconsistent, good one day and not-so-good the next. We booked a backwater fishing trip through the resort and were not impressed with the professionalism of the captain. We also booked our own backwater trip through eBay and had a wonderful experience as well as spent $150 less! All in all, we were happy with our stay, thought the prices were reasonable, and plan to stay there again.
Pros: It's the nicest resort in the area. The Tiki Bar and dock are the highlights. Cons: The hotel grounds and staff were not up-to-par for $500 a night.
My husband and I spent three nights at The Cheeca Lodge on Islamorada Key. Overall it was a pleasant mini vacation but we did experience some 'irritants', such as: We were charged for mini bar items that we did not use (so check your bill, they did remove them). We walked out of the fine dining restaurant after waiting 15 minutes to be greeted by our waiter. Lots of children and corporate events. We and other guest were disappointed with the grounds and service for $500 a night. The spa is lackluster. Also the brochure photos are inaccurate - there's no teak beach furniture, it's plastic and uncomfortable. The $39 a day amenity charge is worth it if you use the beach. The grounds keepers were running loud lawn equipment while people were trying to relax on the beach. Our room was small but nice, the view of the tennis courts and crappy waterfall was distracting. We have stayed at other 4 and 5 star hotels and feel that Cheeca is over-priced, we were under whelmed, although we enjoyed the Tiki bar. I recommend The Sanctuary in S.C. for a long weekend get away.
