The Other White House...the Willard Inter-Continental, Washington, D.C.

by tombarnes Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Nov 02 '01
Pros: Magnificent architecture, good dining room-usually, very good rooms
Cons: Service can have some slips, occasionally, vaguely corporate feel
The Willard Inter-Continental is one of Washington's great landmarks. Shuttered in 1968, it was rescued from oblivion by the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation and the Oliver Carr Company and re-opened in 1986. The Willard has occupied a...

Washington DC, what a great place to vacation.

by kcouture , May 09 '03
Pros: Location, history, architecture
Cons: Rooms are a little drab, room service food prices are a bit ridiculous
For location, style and history, the Willard is at the top of the list.

Twelve stories tall and occupying the entire corner of 14th street and Pennsylvania avenue, the Willard has character. As you pull up to the main entrance on Pennsylvania...

Luxury in D.C.

by gibsongirl76 , Oct 22 '00
Pros: Service, Service, Service, Location, Service, Service...
Cons: price
Let me state this at the very beginning- unless you are on an expense account or an ambassador to somewhere, don't even waste your time thinking about the Willard. I've never seen so much opulence in one building; it surpasses the Waldorf-Astoria in NY...

Treated better than Madonna

by SoniaKat , Aug 17 '01
Pros: less touristy area, wonderful food, adorable and sweet staff, enough pillows to bury self in
Cons: a bit sloppy on the finishings
One Aldwych may be Madonna hotel of choice, but there is none of the attitude usually associated with Celebrity hotels. In fact, this hotel is more about what it is then who stays there.

The Rooms: Giant beds covered in luxurious pillows and a...

The Willard: Home of the Most Variable Service in the Hotel Industry

by udalum , Mar 19 '01
Pros: Luxurious bathrooms, great location, nice rooms, efficient bellhops
Cons: Parking is expensive, recently had bad service
FIRST VISIT: My husband and I decided to go to the Willard Inter-Continental in Washington, DC, since we had a buy one night, get one night free coupon. We booked the hotel through the toll-free number for the Six Continents Club (a guest recognition...

Warm floors, pillows and room-service

by maartenkoning , Mar 05 '03
Pros: Design, overall quality
Cons: None whatsoever
This hotel is the best hotel we ever stayed in. This, of course, says a lot about the hotel and about us. We seek quality in the places we stay in. Sometimes it can be found in a two star hotel, sometimes it's found in a five star hotel. One Aldwych has...

What a disappointment!!!

by leinadeneg , Jul 26 '02
Pros: Location, Location, Location
Cons: In disrepair, weak service, dirty
I became a member of epinions just to write this review. My experience at this once fine hotel was so disappointing, I had to share it and hope others avoid my mistake.

First the good points - I don't think you can get a better location to...

Great Location, Washington Landmark

by two_olives , Jul 08 '04
Pros: Location, service and historical significance.
Cons: None.
This was our second time staying at the Willard. We were here for three nights. We booked an upgraded room with a view this stay compared to a standard room last time. This room overlooked Pennsylvania Ave. and the park across the street. You could ...

Does staying in a tiny room appeal to you?

by tfung , May 01 '01
Pros: modern decor, good location
Cons: Expensive and TINY rooms
I stayed at One Aldwych last November, and it wasn't that pleasant an experience.

I had reserved one of the largest non-suite rooms for 350 pounds a night, after hearing that the normal rooms are tiny. After checking in, I went to my room...

My wife and I had the great pleasure of getting married at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel during April 2000. The Willard is a marvelous hotel, staffed by marvelous people. The rooms in the Willard range from small city-center sized rooms to...

Closest to the White House you can get.

by pekm , Mar 30 '02
Pros: Amazing location, with amazing perks.
Cons: No facilities, spa, etc.
I have had the pleasure of staying in the Willard a number of times. It started with my parents and since I have always stayed there.

I really don't have much to say except it is amazing. I have traveled all around the world, from Europe to...
