Pros: advertising is great, articles have flair (but no depth), City Focus Cons: inconsistent contents from issue to issue, reviews give no sense of the works
ARTnews is one of those rare magazines where the advertising enhances rather than detracts from the regular content. It's a good thing since the magazine is positively overrun by ads. Most publicize individual shows and exhibits at galleries and ...
Pros: Amazing graphics, colors, articles. And information you can really use. Cons: 2/3 it is ads...but then, ads aren't always a bad thing.
ARTnews as most will know is not the most widely known magazine. In fact, unless you are an art enthusiast, you may never have heard of such magazine. But hey, that, is why I'm writing this review of ARTnews--so you will get acquainted with it and...
Pros: cutting edge, comprehensive Cons: not much on traditional American artists
ARTnews is THE magazine if you want to know exactly what is happening in the art scene around the world today. With updates on galleries, artists, museums, collecting, and ethical issues that are to the minute, this is a valuable tool for collectors,...
Pros: Great pictures and cover stories! Cons: They tease you so that you have to purchase the magazine.
This site is absolutely incredible. Instead of subscribing to this magazine via hardcopy, I like to read the magazines online. I am impressed with the different covers they have for the monthly issues. They are extremely creative and different. The...
Pros: Wealth of information...Get the latest, most reliable art news...Stylish..Gives great exposure to third world artists..Good investigative pieces Cons: No complaints so far
What should be on any serious artist's coffee table? Copies of art magazines to follow the many events of the art world. If most artists are like me, on my coffee table, I only keep the most important magazines I want to browse through. ARTnews is one...
Pros: Great peices of art work shown and described Cons: none
ARTnews is the best art magazine that I have found. I bought it on an impulse one day because i love art, but i had never heard of it, but i thought that it looked good. I read through it and looked at all the wonderful art work and i absolutely love it!...
Pros: Up to the moment news Cons: That's not art! It's a pile of shipping peanuts in a box!
I buy Artnews for two reasons; to keep informed about what's happening in my chosen profession, and to get inspired. This magazine does both. The articles are well written. So well written that I get lost in some of the interpretations of some of the...
Switched to Art in America by hangeriron ,Apr 01 '04
Pros: Good articles (mixed in with the ads, editorials and requisite legal feature) Cons: See above rant about legal/political overkill
After several years of Art News, I grew tired of their consistent emphasis on the legal world of art. Seems like every issue has an article or editorial harping on and on about ownership disputes, Nazi confiscated art, so on. If you are into that - this magazine is for you. I would prefer to read about and view current art and shows. So I found that I get that without the other with Art In America.
One last note - Who on earth is George Andreas?? His uninspired art is advertised in every single issue - NOT a treat I can assure you. I am guessing he must be related to the publisher.
