good reading for those on the go

by nana2mom3 , Jan 07 '00
Pros: Stories are real life and magazine is very portable
Cons: stories are often too condensed
this magazine has both humor and real life experiences. It has short stories, although sometimes too short, that are easy to read on a break at work or perhaps on the subway or bus to and from work. These stories are about real people just like you and I....

Awful ways of tracking their customer orders.

by dking30 , Dec 17 '99
Pros: NONE
Cons: Bad way of tracking their mailings and their customers.
I have to say that the two experiences that I have had with Readers Digest have been very dissatisfying, the first time it was actually my mom. She ordered some Readers Digest books through the mail and got one issue in a year and then got a bill for 12...

Cons: junk mail from the company
I subscribed to Reader's Digest after years of stealing copies from doctors' waiting rooms. hehe... As for comparing this to other magazines, there is no comparison that I know of. Reader's Digest offers something for everybody, no matter what their...

Pros: It has a section for every reading mood, drama, humor, current events, human interest, etc.
Cons: It only comes once a month
Why do I love “Reader’s Digest”? Oh, there are so many reasons. They key reason is that it is a little bit of a lot of different types of magazines all in one. Here are some specifics on the type of material you might encounter in a ...

Why on Earth Would You Want to Read This?

by TerryBain , Dec 01 '99
Pros: They know something about what America wants to read. And they pay writers well.
Cons: Still kind of schlocky.
Why would you want to read the Digest? Isn't this the magazine in our parents' bathroom? Don't they condense stories and spit them back out again? Aren't their stories a little schlocky at times?

Why read it? Why?

Well, for one...

Reader's Digest is light reading

by canred , Dec 10 '99
Pros: Light reading
Cons: None
I like Reader's Digest because it is light reading. If you are sitting in a doctor's or dentist's waiting room, you are mostly like able to finish an article...or two....maybe three....

It's entertaining and a quick read. I like the...

Way ahead of the short attention span curve

by nathantyree Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 28 '00
Pros: comes in a large print edition, which is good for those with poor eye sight
Cons: see article, too many to list
For years it has seemed that the attention spans of Americans has been shrinking. Many people blame MTV, and TV news "soundbites", I don't. I blame Readers Digest.

Readers Digest is famous for Condensing, and distilling content from...

A cut above the rest

by MissBelle , Jul 08 '00
Pros: Quality reading material, at an affordable price
Cons: I honestly haven't run across one.
Look at any magazine rack and you'll see publications covering virtually every subject imaginable. What do they all have in common? Almost every single magazine caters to it's sponsors... maybe a little too much?

Reader's Digest stands out...

Boomer's Digest?

by bvckvs , Dec 05 '09
Pros: Articles and stories are wholesome and entertaining.
Cons: Some health and other topics seem repetitive.
I think that either this magazine should rename itself, or preferably that it should refocus itself. Reader's Digest got it's name when it began as a source for good writing. When I picked it up and read an article, column or comic - I knew I ...

Outdated Crap!

by molecule , Jan 19 '00
Pros: ugh
Cons: good for grandma
As the industrial age of capitalism transforms into the new economy, one which is identified by a rave-fashion, quality-of-life motivated, superfast-individualized economy, one wonders what the hell anyone would want to do with information as generic and...

I Haven't Spotted a Typo for the Past 20 Years

by ArchieSicat , Jan 08 '01
Pros: Typo-free reading, lots of tips, no waste-of-time stories, to the point
Cons: An issue is hard to part with
This is the magazine I practically grew up with. It was through Word Power that I continuously improved my vocabulary. Many of the articles in the Reader's Digest became like role models to me as I gradually developed my own writing style through the...

by dhascall , Sep 28 '00
Pros: Non-fiction news stories, short articles, pro-consumer
Cons: Views are very biased
I have been reading "Reader's Digest" magazine since I was in my early teens. I like to read, especially non-fiction news and current events. Many folks think only seniors read it. Don't know why or even if it's true but think that everyone...

Pros: Articles on Every Topic You Can Imagine!

The Reader’s Digest discusses some really interesting topics. One of my favorite features in the Digest is sure to be all of the jokes! There is also a really great section called “You Said It” where readers can write in about just about anything that...
