Pros: Expertise of the writing staff; Personal articles of adventure travel Cons: None, really.
Launching off in a seaward vessel provides a great rush to those who love water recreation. Whether its the feeling of the open sea or the tranquility of a small lake, boating enthusiasts are always anxious to leave the vehicles and the stresses of ...
Pros: Colorful, well-written and knowledgeable. Cons: Bit of excessive advertising baggage on board.
I discovered Sail Magazine at our local library in Ilwaco, Washington in the free bin. Ilwaco is a marvelous maritime place to visit. There is a lovely marina nearby with little shops selling fresh crab and nautical novelties with Cape Disappointment ...
Pros: Broad coverage of sailing Cons: Not enough detail
In this world of specialization, 'Sail' magazine still attempts to cover the broad spectrum of interests that make up the sport of sailing. Monthly articles cover the wide range of topics including building basic skills, cruising locations, new boats and...
Pros: Good General Coverage of Sailing Cons: Limited to General Coverage
If "Cruising World" is for the cruising fanatic, and "Sailing World" is for the racing fanatic, "Sail" is for all of the rest of the world- both sailors and non sailors alike.
Pros: Good Photography and Articles Cons: Not enough boat listings
I have been a fan of Sail Magazine for two decades and I never tire of the many articles that amazingly never seem to repeat.
After reading Sail for several months back in the 70's , we decided to buy a 21' sloop and became sailors in real...
Decent magazine, poor subscription services by surfeiteer ,Mar 06 '07
Pros: Is changing its worn format. Cons: If you're going to subscribe to this, keep copies of everything.
I had been a subscriber to SAIL for perhaps 12 years, but thought it was getting stale and a very vendor friendly type of magazine, not very discriminating.
I had stopped subscribing a year or so ago, I came back for a trial with a very low offer. I paid for by check with the return form, but which they did not honor later -- tried to double the amount owed. I wouldn't pay that and ended the subscription after two issues.
Anyway, the magazine appeared to have improved some during the interim, but still does not compare to SAILING magazine (to which I still subscribe) at all in my opinion, so I won't miss it much.
Pros: Broad,up to date coverage of sailing. Cons: After a few years, you'll notice that they recycle/update articles.
I have read them all for many years. Sail is probably the best all-purpose sailing magazine, there are others that are better for racing or cruising. If you're relatively new to sailing, you will enjoy SAIL. In time, you'll find that they repeat themselves, mostly recycling/updating the same topics every several years.
