Sex, Hot Guys, Sexy Fashions, Celebrities - Is Seventeen for Your Teen?

by glomarrone Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Feb 28 '02
Pros: Hot fashion trends, hair & beauty make-overs, Real Life section, celebrity interviews, inexpensive subscription price
Cons: Heavy advertising, liberal attitude toward sex may upset some parents, expensive teen clothes/products
Seventeen is a popular magazine just for teenage girls. It covers the topics that interest teens - fashion, beauty, body, boys, sex and celebrity interviews. The magazine has been speaking to teens for over fifty years. As a young teenager, I...

Seventeen Magazine (Is For Whom?)

by Prepoia, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 23 '04
Pros: Nice fashion, make-up, and hair advice.
Cons: What is the age of the target audience?
Seventeen must be a popular magazine. There have been over 250 people that have reviewed the magazine since Epinions’ conception over four years ago. It’s too bad for me that I didn’t read the reviews before I subscribed to this magazine for my ...

Seventeen, A Popular Magazine For Older Teens

by Birdfeather Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Feb 15 '06
Pros: Lots of love, friendship, beauty, health and real life feature articles.
Cons: Some articles may contain sexual information your child may not need to know...yet.
When my girls reached the "Sweet 16" mark one of the things they got for their birthday was a subscription to Seventeen magazine. It is geared toward teenagers in general but some of the articles were in my opinion for more mature girls. ...

NC-Seventeen

by Candice923 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 10 '06
Pros: It USED to be good...
Cons: ...but it isn't anymore. Lousy articles, boring photographs, just not for teenagers.
I was in the doctor's office, waiting for my appointment. Like other doctors' offices, there are plenty of magazines in the waiting room. Since I am the Editor-in-Chief of Te en Trend Magazine, I tend to grab the latest ...

Virgin/Whore dichotomy: the Seventeen standard

by kmennie Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 09 '00
Pros: One of the better publications in a bad lot; the old standard-bearer, reasonable text-to-price ratio
Cons: Bizarre innocent/slut dichotomy with nobody inbetween, substance-free articles
In the interests of, er, research for this review, I took a guess and went off to seventeen.com. It is, for better or for worse, exactly like its print counterpart: unsure as to whether teen-aged girls are virgins are whores, with little...

A Typical Seventeen Year Old's Reality...Or Is It?

by AmberM , Mar 02 '00
Pros: None
Cons: content is lacking, poor use of articles, recycle effect, puts women and men into roles of stereotypes unrealistic of reality
Thank Goodess, I have survived my pre-teen years and teen years. Either I was a normal adolescent experiencing the pits and peaks of life or I was going bi-polar disorder.

When I was just beginning High School at the tender age of 13 (I...

Breaking Into the Teen Scene

by beckish Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Dec 11 '00
Pros: good articles, written for teenagers, focus on teen issues
Cons: sometimes too many ads for expensive items
When I was a teenager, Seventeen was my favorite magazine. Times really haven't changed that much, as both of my daughters (one almost fifteen, one twelve and a half) requested a subscription to this magazine. Granted, I am pretty positive that their...

Can't even find 17 reasons to read this magazine...

by MikesCelticLuv , Jan 30 '00
Pros: Real-life stories. Occasional good advice.
Cons: Pressure girls into feeling like they need to be beauty queens. Make girls feel like they NEED a boyfriend. Negative ads. Occasional bad advice. Too much junk and not enough substance.
I had a subscription to Seventeen magazine not too long ago. It used to be a fairly good magazine. Now, it's going downhill faster than a sled on ice.

Seventeen has some good points. They usually have articles about real girls who have...

If this is 17, be afraid, BE VERY AFRAID!!

by ned1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Mar 23 '00
Pros: maybe some girls can relate to this, but I hope my daughters never can
Cons: too sexy, too many ads, too many articles about sex
I don't know if this is a magazine or a monthly glossy photo trip to the mall? Between all the ads for Sketchers, Tommy, Opi, Candies, Hard Candy, etc. and all the smutty articles I feel like I spent two hours at the mall food court listening in on...

Ad Magazine

by VLenard , May 27 '00
Pros: Glossy cover, some good articles
Cons: A lot of ads
Seventeen magazine is a good and bad magazine. This is a great magazine if you love ads. But I don't, in fact, I despise them. Most of the magazine is ads for make-up and clothes.

The Good..

1) Glossy cover. It's great if...

Pregnant at Seventeen

by Namibia , Aug 17 '00
Pros: Geeeeeee, Girls?
Cons: Read.......
This magazine is highly contradicting on many levels, both morally and socially. So to make a long story short, no I do not agree with this magazine on any level, and believe me I am not one of high morals.

Well most of you that read my...

A Conflict of Interests

by VeeZee Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 22 '99
Pros: Variety of features, Addresses important current issues and events
Cons: Idealistic fashion models and clothing, Promotes appearance over personality
As a teen, I used to read Seventeen magazine all of the time. They are basically like a Cosmo Jr. While there are tons of interesting things to read about, they tend to focus more on appearance than inner qualities.

On the one hand, they aim...

Hey, Teens!

by Emnemms , Aug 02 '00
Pros: Just a great magazine! Always new things, stays away from the "boy band zone"
Cons: Can get a little expensive, some other mags are less expensive
When any of us think of teen magazines, our mind automatically thinks of Seventeen. It's been around forever and overall, it's a great magazine for teen girls. I'll tell you why. I started buying Seventeen when I started 6th grade. A more appropriate...

seventeen?!

by Anniemal , Nov 24 '00
Pros: horoscopes? Q&A sections, quizzes are sometimes interesting
Cons: advertisements, flawless skinny models, too much emphasis on looks
Like all girls my age, I used to buy Seventeen magazines just to see some of the cool fashion and the trauma stories. However, I quickly grew out of that fad. The models depicted in the advertisements are grossly unlike normal teen girls this age....
