Pros: Thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, sexy...exotic... So gorgeous.
Cons: Maybe a couple of songs are less enthralling.

Summary: In 1986, I was 14 years old and in the 9th grade.  Peter Gabriel had just released his album, So.  I remember being somewhat mystified by the stark black and white album cover and the photo of Gabriel's pensive face.  I ... read more

    Pros: Yes
    Cons: No

Summary: Peter Gabriel had spent most of his early career hiding himself. I mean that literally. On the self-titled debut he appears behind the windshield of a car, drops of rain obscuring visibility. On the self-titled follow-up he appeared tearing shreds out of ... read more

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Jul 14 '07
Pros: The synths and the overall sound of the album.
Cons: Maybe "Big Time" and "Sledgehammer" get over played a bit too much.

Summary: When thyis album first came out in the eighties I was probably too immature both physically and mentally to appreciate it ( I was only about 16 when this album came out). But then in the early nineties when I started to collect music albums I bought ... read more

Pros: A few bona fide '80s classics
Cons: A few inconsequential '80s pop songs

Pros: music that can make a difference – there is beauty to be found here
Cons: songs with subtitles will make most people scratch their heads and say "whu…?"

Summary: I was twenty in 1986, a young man struggling with entering adulthood, trying to form some sort of plan for my future, and working out my place in the world. Music played a major role in forming my worldview – I looked to music as a sort of soundtrack ... read more

Pros: Great music from Peter Gabriel.
Cons: "We Do What We're Told" is somewhat repetitive.

Summary: Like many people my age, my first exposure to the man, the myth, and the legend known as Peter Gabriel was through his special effects driven video for "Sledgehammer". I first saw that video when I was in second grade or there about and it blew me away. ... read more

Pros: Excellent songwriting and music that is both daring and fun.
    Cons: Only nine songs? *Sigh*

Summary: Known for successfully fusing heartfelt soul and cutting-edge technology into a record considered by many critics to be one of the best of the 80's, Peter Gabriel's landmark pop opus So is perhaps best described as sporadic, an album of extremes. ... read more

Pros: It's Peter Gabriel's most open, surprising, and emotional LP to date.
Cons: None I can think of.

Summary: This is an updated draft of my review of Peter Gabriel’s landmark 1986 album, SO, an album so few people mention but always seems to be essential no matter the silence is broken or not. Now why is that so…I’ll tell you. I’m ... read more

Pros: Fun, silly, and serious all at once, with plenty of magic to it.
Cons: The last song is a bit too outre and out there to be really enjoyable.

Summary: Everyone has a list of 'desert island' discs. These are the ones that you grab when the house is burning down, or swear revenge when they vanish or get damaged. This is one of my desert island treasures. I never get tired of the vocals or lyrics, and ... read more

    Pros: Clear, classic, gorgeous
    Cons: None

Summary: This album in an elegant manifesto of one of the strongest, most enduring voices in pop/rock. That's not to say that Gabriel's voice is essentially 'strong', he's much softer that that, a voice like warm chocolate perhaps or burnt toffee. I ... read more

Pros: Great verity of Peter Gabriel
    Cons: None

Summary: I love the music of Peter Gabriel. There is nothing I'd rather listen to in the car. "SO" is a great colection of his work. This album includes his greats like "Red Rain" and "In Your Eyes", as well as my ... read more

Pros: Just a phenomenal record, laden with terrific songs
    Cons: none.

Summary: OK. If you are familiar with any of my other music reviews, then you probably know that I am very into punk and hardcore music. However, I have to confess something right here, right now. That's right, I have always enjoyed Peter Gabriel's music. ... read more

Pros: Mostly high energy Gabriel - a few tunes you'll recognize and a few new ones.
    Cons: None

Summary: While admittedly a Gabriel fan since the early 80's, I bought this album along w/Steve Winwood's "Back in the High Life" on the same day back in '86 prior to hopping on a 6 1/2 hr. bus ride. Both got equal play on my walkman, and 2 cassettes ... read more

Pros: Probably the most general-public-friendly PG album
    Cons: -------------------------------------------------------------

Summary: While Peter Gabriel's earlier albums (generally known as I, II, II, and IV) contain really outstanding material, and single releases even scored a few modest chart hits, the subsequent album "So" definitively confirmed PG's capabilities of ... read more
