Pros: Everything Cons: Spanish Castle Magic sounds too derivative of other Hendrix songs
Jimi Hendrix, guitar god of the 60s, released three studio albums with his band, The Experience, and a couple of singles as well. This 60s band is the only one that comes to mind that was intercontinental with Jimi hailing from USA's Seattle, Washington ...

Pros: Absolutely gorgeous, textured and intricate music with thoughtful and witty lyricism Cons: Perhaps too short; Hendrix died far too young
One of the things that I find absolutely amazing about Jimi Hendrix is his remarkable ability to grow and reinvent himself musically on a regular basis. He released three studio albums in his short career, and on each one he was able to grow as a...

Pros: Jimi on guitar, interplay between musicians, Hendrix's songwriting skills Cons: He left us too soon
With these words, the pseudo-interview between Paul Caruso (Jimi Hendrix) and the interviewer (Mitch Mitchell) on radio station EXP ends and this startling album begins, although a bit unusually. Recorded in 1967, and released first in England, Axis Bold...

Pros: a good mix of rockers and ballads show multiple sides of Hendrix Cons: not as strong as his first or third albums, if that merits a con
Axis: Bold As Love sounds as fresh to me today as it did when I first heard it as a teenager some 20 years ago. I can only guess how it might have sounded when it first landed in 1967. Because it falls between the powerhouse debut ...

Pros: Great songs and playing Cons: A few weak tracks
Jimi Hendrix began work on his second mainstream recording while his debut Are You Experienced was still selling quite well. The record company wanted to capitalize on the incendiary performance Jimi had displayed at the Monterey Pop Festival in...

Pros: Excellent guitar work. A must have for any rocker. Cons: Some songs too short. Seem incomplete.
What if?……….That, of course is the question most asked when dealing with the subject of one James Marshall Hendrix. Cut down tragically by a life of excess. What if indeed?
I'd like to think that if he were alive today, aside from...

Pros: Many amazing songs, great full album Cons: Only 40 minutes long.
From the strange sci-fi scene of EXP, to the raging fire in Bold As Love, this Hendrix classic packs in great music every second. The second album in the Hendrix collection, this album flows through world's previously untouched until Hendrix came along,...

Pros: Incredilbe guitars, Awesome cosmic lyrics, great sound effects, The best studio Hendrix album in my opinion Cons: None that I can think of
To pick one album that represents Jimi Hendrix at the top of his form is a hard thing to do. So many of his albums document his incredible talent well, and the excellent disc The Ultimate Experience is a great place to start if you are...

Pros: Expressive Lyrics Cons: none
With the release of his second studio album, Jimi Hendrix delivered on the promise of Are You Experienced? There is plenty of the brilliant and inventive guitar work that drove that album and secured his audience. But while I rate the song list of...

Pros: Beautifully performed music, new photographs, digitally remastered Cons: None
Jimi Hendrix mastered the stratocaster before the age of 21 and this album captures some of his greatest work. My personal favorite on the album is "EXP". A little ditty about an alien spaceman who returns to Earth and finds the human race...

Pros: Great lyrics by Jimi, nice change in style Cons: Short songs, not tons of guitar solos like other albums
I was at my friend's house one day and I heard two songs, one, a good rocker, the other, a jarringly beautiful work. Both were on my friend's Experience Hendrix CD and they were "Spanish Castle Magic" and "Castles Made of...

Pros: Great songs, lots of classics` Cons: none!
Axis:Bold as Love definitely ranks as one of Jimi Hendrix's top three albums. This album came out in 1967, by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The Jimi Hendrix Experience consisted of Jimi Hendrix on guitar, Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums....

Pros: Intelegent lyrics show Hendrix's artistic side. Cons: Very short, lacks guitar solos.
"Axis: Bold as Love" is some of Jimi Hendrix's best work. He proves that he can sing and write music, rather than just being able to play the guitar. Axis contains a large variety of song types, from the fast, loud "Spanish Castle Magic" to the...

Jimi's "Axis"
by hwmorrisjr ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: Early examples of Jazz/Rock Fusion. Cons: None that I can think of at this time.
This is my favorite Jimi jam (and believe me, I've had more than my share of "Axis" vs. "Electric Ladyland" arguments! Maybe I'll tell y'all about a classic debate I had with an employee at J&R Music in Lower Manhattan one day!) because it showcases the whole spectrum of his genius...Songwriting, playing, singing and production.
Everyone goes on and on about how Miles started Fusion, well, I'm here to say that Jimi had that concept down by the time Mr. Davis decided to plug his horn into a Wah-Wah pedal with the "Axis" cuts, "Up From The Skies," "Gold And Rose" and "If Six Was Nine." (Need I mention even earlier Fusion cuts on "Are You Experienced?")
I have only one problem with "Axis," and it pertains to Jimi's ending solo on the title cut. The phasing effects make an otherwise uninspired solo sound stratospheric. It leaves me torn each time I hear it. (maybe that was the effect Jimi and studio engineer Eddie Kramer were shooting for.)
