Pros: A few great songs. Can see potential with the band... Cons: A few forgettable tracks. Unimportant lyrics.
Summary: Wielding an irrepressible gift for melody and arrangement, Billy Corgan burst on to the rock scene with 1991s Gish. Of course there were other players in the success of Smashing Pumpkins, but it was always Corgan who drove the Chicago-based ... read more

Pros: The signature Smashing Pumpkins style is definitely present. Cons: Slow songs are too slow and there’s too many of them.
Summary: Smashing Pumpkins is one of those bands I kept hearing on the radio and in bars thinking: ‘This is great!’ Followed by: ‘What is it?’ But kept forgetting to actually look them up and check it out. When I finally did, I got Siamese ... read more

Pros: Rhinocerous, Snail Cons: Some of these more lingering aspects
Summary: Gish, is, I guess around the point where Smashing Pumpkins were really coming into their own as a band and growing into something substantial. That works great because this is a great record. It has many of their best sounds and it sounds the least like ... read more

Pros: Great debut by the Pumpkins. Siva and Rhinocerous stand out. Cons: Daydream. A couple too many slow songs in a row.
Summary: Note: To anyone who thinks this review looks familiar, that is because it was formerly under the account of weisbuesing. This account was comprised of two people, myself being one of them, who have decided to end their partnership and do solo reviews ... read more

Pros: Makes for easy listening, guitar work, had everything post Mellon Collie lacked. Cons: Weak lyrics, some wanky guitar work, often over looked by people

Pros: Rhinocerous and Crush Cons: everything else
Summary: With all honesty, this early Pumpkins stuff doesnt impress me at all. Where as their latter day albums have their fair share of good songs but unfortunately were suffocated with inexcusable, pointless filler, Gish suffers from crap ... read more

Pros: A diverse collection of songs. A good look in the early Pumpkins. Cons: Weak songwriting on occasion.
Summary: Billy Corgan, a lonely little Chicago boy, had formed a band, and by god, he'd make it the best damn band ever!
From the psychedelic rock of Rhinoceros, to the controlled sonic chaos of Siva, to the acoustic strum of Daydream, the Pumpkins ... read more

Pros: Solid songs, band's talent is shown Cons: Corgan's songwriting is still developing
Summary: Gish was my third Smashing Pumpkins album, after Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness. By then, the Pumpkins were undisputedly my favorite band. So I was curious as how their first record would ... read more

Pros: Great debut album, rocks hard and with passion, good variety between heavy and melodic Cons: Little, aside from that some songs drag a bit or don't grab your attention
Summary: Steps for musical domination:
1. Form a band
2. Sign on to a indie record label
3. Release album
4. Switch to major label
5. Headline a major music festival
6. Release album(s), one of which must be a double album

Pros: Great down-to-basics production and sound. A showcase for the Chamberlin's drumming. Cons: A tad short (for a Pumpkins album) at a bit more than 45 minutes
Summary: Sorry about the title, I just had to do that. Anyway, few people seem to remember that Gish by Smashing Pumpkins was released before "Nevermind". In any event, to compare the two albums is not going to happen in this particular ... read more

Pros: Great guitars, classic songs Cons: Some of the songs aren't very interesting.
Summary: The Smashing Pumpkins released their first album Gish a few months before Nirvana's Nevermind hit number one. Gish album was a welcome change from the spandex wearing bands that were popular only a few short moments earlier.
For a while it held the ... read more

Pros: Superb musicianship and song structure Cons: Fairly derivative, production could be better
Summary: With intricately crafted songs and the notable musical prowess of both lead guitarist and vocalist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, the Smashing Pumpkins' first album Gish is one of the finest rock records ever released. Although it is ... read more

Pros: Music, lyrics, production, everything else. Cons: None!!!
Summary: My first experience with the Smashing Pumpkins was Siamese Dream. I loved that album so much, I decided to back track and buy their first album, Gish. I can say with complete honesty that I was floored the first time I heard this album.

Pros: Very deep rock album with great musicianship Cons: It's originality is blurred by legions of bad alternative bands in the 90s.
Summary: This album is truly a work of art. I heard this album the week it was released. It's difficult to explain to people how original this album was when it came out. It came out right around the same time as Nirvana's "Nevermind". The sounds on Gish are ... read more

Pros: Youth Energy, Great Songs, Great Music, Best Debut I've Heard since Hendrix Cons: Song Writing does occasionally slip into showy instrumental prowess: lyrics are VERY weak: corgans singing isnt' the best
Summary: This is one of the most amazing debuts of all time. It almost matches Are you Exprienced By Jimi Hendrix Experience (and sharing similar covers). The youth energy, and obvious technical talent make this a rush. Chamberlain's drumming is great, but would ... read more

Pros: A album, raw, full of energy and improvisation Cons: Daydream. Thankfully, it's the last track
Summary: As amazing as this album gets, Gish was a victim of its own time. Luck was not on the Smashing Pumpkins' side. Nevermind, Nirvana's sophomore album and easily the best album of the 1990's, had just been released. Gish however, was not overshadowed by ... read more

Pros: No throw-away songs; lots of moods; great sound Cons: none
Summary: I've encountered so many people that claim to be Smashing Pumpkins fans, and yet they don't have this record. For that matter, some kids think the Pumpkins started with _Siamese Dream_, which is even stranger...

Pros: The establishment of a genius band Cons: Er... the cover is a bit odd
