Pros: Gorgeous, interesting, unusual... Cons: Farrell's voice may not be for everybody, some songs don't go anywhere...
Janes Addiction is easily one of the most important bands to have come out of the 1980s. They were certainly punk, but also weird and wild and completely unpredictable. Perry Farrells enigmatic presence was a major contributing factor to the ...

Pros: Trippy mood, songwriting, production Cons: Performance
Porno For Pyros, which has one of the greatest band names of all time, is often hailed as the band that didn’t live up to the legacy of Jane’s Addiction. On Good Gods Urge , the band makes it clear that they’re not trying to. ...

Makes me miss the beach
by angrymonkey ,Aug 18 '05
Pros: signing, pacing, guitar, use of different types of instruments Cons: a bit slow on some songs
When I listen to Mr. Ferrell with his cracked singing voice makes me miss and wish for the times of when I was a little girl on the ocean. With the song "Good Gods Urge", "Kimberly Austin", and others, I just want to be walking on the beach with the sand in between my toes and watching the waves roll towards the shore as if it is going to devour the shore and all of its inhabitants in one bite.

Porno For Pyros - Good God's Urge
by sjvilla79 ,Nov 19 '05
Pros: The album shows a diverse range of musical genres and performance levels throughout. Cons: Farrell's chilling and sweet vocals may deter some listeners.
This album is brilliant. Yes, it's that simple. Highlights include tracks 5 and 10. They're the more mellow tunes. The rest is also pure brilliance though and shows a diverse range of musical genres and performance levels throughout. I'd also go as far to say that the feel of this album is quite surreal. There's twists and turns and up and downs that will always surprise with each listen. It's like a tripped out roller-coaster ride that you'll rarely tire of.
Lastly, I reckon this album is far more musical than anything I've heard from Farrell's previous projects (e.g. compared to earlier tracks from Jane's Addiction). Thus, a person who appreciates more instrumental pieces, the usual chilling and sweet vocals from Perry, and experimental beats won't be disappointed with this album. Just forget about expecting coarse rock guitar and drums though. And yes that's a good thing. Turn it up!

great for summer listening, mystical, beautiful
by furrismurda ,Apr 20 '04
Pros: mystical; thoughtful, even sweet at times, rocking, indescribably beautiful. Cons: These guys haven't put out enough records.
This is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. I encountered it purely by chance, got it from Columbia House. I thought nothing of it at first, but after a few months of sitting in my cd case I came to be mezmerized by this amazing album.
Perry Farrell's singing is as amazing as ever. There's even a type of love song called "Kimberly Austin" that is just amazing. There are some trippy/spacy songs, a couple of upbeat rocking songs, 12 or 13 tracks total.
This is the type of record where everysong is awesome, and you can't pick your favorite. You can listen to it all the way through.
I feel my opinion on this album is to be valued because of the fact that I have no background with Jane's Addiction and that kind of stuff. I just found this album by chance and have pronounced it one of the best ever. I'll feel sorry for you if you read this review and don't buy the record.
Enjoy!
