Pros: Um. Well...a few decent melodies... Cons: No direction, no "glue" to hold it together, just awful...
I dont deal well with bands that think themselves to be more profound then they actually are. One such ridiculous mess is Kula Shaker. Named after ninth-century Indian mystic and emperor, the band consciously blends a pseudo-spiritual direction ...
Pros: Interesting sound, Some fun songs, Pleasant to listen to. Cons: Several predictable rhymes, Repetitive.
I think the biggest and best reason to pick up an album that looks to have a different ethnic bent to it is to listen to something different. Yes, as un-PC as it might be to suggest, one of the nice things about picking up a disc from someone from a ...
Pros: Not as bad as I remember it being... Cons: ... It's still a crock of sh*te!
Of all the bands that went together under the label Britpop*, there was one which the British public is at great pains to forget. A band so bad that Gene looked down their noses at them. A band so crass that their lead singer proclaimed "I want to go on...
Pros: Up tempo rock and blues, good lyrics and performances Cons: Eastern references may turn off some
It is with a bit of sadness that I say we did not get much more out of this band. I did not even give their last record a shot after I heard that they had broken up. Let us take a look at Kula Shaker's 1996 release K
Pros: New ideas, not the same dreary pop, thoroughly rockin' Cons: Might not be your kinda thing
I had never heard of Kula Shaker...few had...but I had to get their album "K" because I absolutely, totally dug "Tattva," their radio single. The album is quite a listen. Distinctive and original, it is like wailing in a garage full...
Pros: mixture of music styles Cons: some quite bland songs
I had to write an opinion on this CD, even though I bought this in 1996, because it is such a good album. Although I understand that this is not to everyone's taste, as it is quite weird, I think its a work of art. They have such a brilliant mixture of...
Pros: The good songs are very very good Cons: The bad songs are very very bad
Before kula shakers music became commercialised it was fantastic. They produced a lot of amazing songs but they also created the odd flop.
This album contains their earlier music which is indian style light rock. The music incorporates a series of...
Pros: Indie at it's best. Hey Dude, Govinda, Smart Dogs, Tattva, Grateful When you're Dead, 303, & Start all over Cons: Maybe abit too mystical in some parts. Temple of Everlasting Light & Sleeping jiva
Kula Shaker were one of the many indie class bands that emerged to the surface during the indie revolution in 96. Their songs were not only catchy & tuneful, but also played well live which gave them most of their appeal. K is indubitable a classic...
Pros: Astounding, sounds like good old fashioned late 60's/early 70's rock Cons: there isn't a single con to this album
This is the most amazing debut album I've ever heard. It grabbed me from the first note, and was in heavy rotation in my cd-changer for at least 6 months.
Far better is their second album, the sonic orgasm "Peasants, Pigs, and Astronauts", which was produced by David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd--he even plays uncredited guitar on a few tracks).
Thanks to these two cds, I've become something of a fanatic about collecting every scrap of Kula Shaker music I can get my hands on....I am still in mourning that they broke up.
