Pros: Liz Thought This Was What Radio Wanted. Cons: It's Not
Before Liz Phairs freakishly commercial fourth LP, Whitechocolatespaceegg was released showcasing the singer in early stages of a major sonic makeover. Abandoning the low fidelity that she championed in Exile in Guyville, Whitechocolatespaceegg is a ...

Pros: everything Cons: none
I have been an avid fan of Liz Phair since her first album, "Exile in Guyville." Her second album, "Whip-Smart" was a disappointment, so "Whitechocolatespaceegg" was something that I looked forward from the moment I heard...

Pros: it's just a kick-ass album. Cons: none.
This is the first album I bought purely because I read a good review. The lyrics quoted mesmerized me.."He's just Eugene Isaac Alvarez. We feel sorry for the wall." (Uncle Alvarez)
So, with a "damn the torpedoes" stride...

Pros: Great voice, smart song-writing, new but still the same Cons: Occasionally a bit slow-paced, not hugely innovative
A lot of the more with-it people out there bought and enjoyed Exile in Guyville, Liz Phair's debut, and I recommend highly that you all go out and buy it (see my review of it for more details), but this album also deserves a look. I bought it on the...

Pros: Gets better with each listen Cons: None
You know how when you were little and watching a flick with your parents and they told you "You're too young to understand this" and you laughed and said "Yeah right, empathy's my middle name"? Well, anyone under 30 IS too young to...

Pros: loopy melodies, it-girl lyrics, and a sheen of sound that makes the speakers sparkle. Cons: it's a bit more produced than the raw EXILE IN GUYVILLE, but that's only a problem if you're a purist.
When Liz Phair's EXILE IN GUYVILLE came out, all the boy-crits who normally spend their time being read to sleep while sitting in the lap of Greil Marcus took notice. Hey, a hot blond chick was singing about sex ... and how she *liked* it! And the songs...

Pros: Improved songwriting raises the stakes for this indie rocker Cons: Not too many of them, so why bother pointing them out?
Yay, the Queen of Indie-Rock is BAAAAACK! Of course, Matador Records is now owned by Capital, but major label tendencies aside, Phair is still the darling of the indie crowd, having spawned the whole current fad of "angry chicks with guitars."...

Pros: Girly and good Cons: Some songs might not get you
Liz Phair didn't start work on "Whitechocolatespaceegg" till after the birth of her first child. She said that all she felt at that time was warm and liquidy, like an ocean. The only song on the album that reflects Liz's pregnancy is the title...

Pros: Fairy Dust Production (Every Song Shimmers) Cons: one or two slightly weaker tracks
Cast your vote for The Sopranos new theme song! Jokes aside, the aforementioned track is not only one of the best songs of '98, it is also a pretty incisive glimpse into the mind of a lonely wiseguy on a downward spiral. I'm working without the liner...

Pros: 17 tracks, long CD Cons: Still want more.
Liz is great. This CD is her finest. EVERY song is great, has a message, and can be funny too. They all have a real presence to them that resonates feelings. I'm a big fan.
Some of my favorites are "Headache", it really...

Pros: strong lyrics Cons: not as edgy as yesteryear
No one sings like Liz Phair. At times raspy and low, at others squeaky and harsh, I adore her. Whenever I hear her voice I remember days of being an angst girl wanting to rule the world. With Exile and Whipsmart, Phair challenged the male-driven rock...

Pros: Great Production, Her strongest record musically Cons: "Exile in Soccer-Momville"
First off, let me say I really like this record. It's Liz's first "fully produced" record in my opinion, and I believe the songs really benefit from it.
This record is loaded with lots of catchy hooks, and choruses....

Pros: Great range, better voice Cons: None
She is not today's best woman artist. Or the best alternative rock artist. She is brilliant, and this CD proves it.
In the past, Phair has gotten by on her lyrics and abrasive harmonies. But on this album, apparently the result of voice classes,...

Pros: A great diversity of songwriting styles testing the range of Phair's vocals Cons: A few of the song are little too sugary sweet
Whitechocolatespaceegg is a much different record then her previous two in that its much less harsh and angry than Exile in Guyville and more mature than Whipsmart. This is Phair's best effort yet in terms of songwriting and diversity of sounds. From...

Pros: fun as always Cons: inconsistent
Liz's latest album has the same girly sound as her last album, Whip Smart.
But like Whip Smart, the undertones in Liz's deep voice suggest something more than just girly fun. Some songs keep the same free spiritedness such while others talk about...
