Pros: Sweeping, majestic tracks with wonderful arrangement. Mangum is talented! Cons: Difficult lyrics.
Seamlessly unifying elements of lo-fi, folk, and experimentalism Neutral Milk Hotel is a free flowing, utterly incomparable creation. In reality, the band is the effort of one man from Louisiana. That man, singer-songwriter Jeff...

Pros: One of the best albums ever released Cons: As usual, not for everyone
Though we've all probably experienced deja vu, there are actually three types of deja vu. One of which is called deja vecu, which is, apparently, what most people mean when they say "woah, deja vu!!": that feeling that you've experienced or done ...

Pros: The melodies are hooky and it has a very distinctive sound. Cons: The voice is a bit over-the-top, and so is the fuzz-guitar.

Pros: One of the best indie albums ever Cons: May be too weird for some folks
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is one of the weirdest, most unique and touching albums I have ever heard. Like the best art, it affects everyone differently. I know someone who could go on for hours about its genius; one of my other friends simply ...

Pros: I wish there was something I could put here to guarantee you'll hear this album. Cons: I'm afraid I can't.
It takes you awhile to really get into an album. Some don't warrant the effort, and others turn out to be classic. In fact, many of the best CDs I own were "growers." Albums such as Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted, Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville, the...

Pros: Lets just say that I joined Epinions to give this album 5 stars Cons: No new Neutral Milk Hotel music since this.
My first impression of Neutral Milk Hotel was in 2003 through the song Oh, Comely, which I downloaded at the insistence of many close friends of whom I have similar musical tastes. Since I already loved the music of similar Elephant 6 artists ...

Pros: Its not experimental, yet no other album sounds even remotely like this masterpiece. Cons: Unreleased tracks from 1996/97 sessions would appease people wanting more than 40 minutes of music.
"Made in Canada" are the only words you’ll find on the case containing one of the best indie rock albums ever recorded. Too bad, as “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” should carry a warning: “Play this disc at least twice before making any judgments.” I ...

Pros: a very unique sound, interesting lyrics, bizarre instruments Cons: sometimes all that "fuzz" blocks out the really intriguing melodies
This album of fuzzed-out psychedelic folk-rock from Jeff Mangum and Co. , their second full-length, is one of the strangest, prettiest and most haunting pieces of work I've ever come across. Trombones and tubas are blended with out of tune banjos and...

Pros: Infectiously catchy, lo-fi pop sound lends honesty to personal songwriting. Cons: Mangum's voice is raw, and his music simple: some may find this overwhelmingly unappealing.
With any album as raw and powerful as Neutral Milk Hotel's "Aeroplane", critics often write with hyperbole: either they love it or hate it. I'd heard about this album from so many publications and people I could barely keep from buying it when...

Pros: Beautiful, original, sexy Cons: Makes you unable to listen to other music
This record has become difficult to find in stores because (I assume) word of mouth has made long chains of friends buy this independent album of some random, weird-named band from the South. I didn't especially like it the first times I heard it. Now, I...

well, i don't even remember how i heard about this band - it certainly wasn't on the radio - but i wish i did just so i could thank whoever was responsible. what a great album from a great band. I listen to it on my discman while wandering the streets...

Pros: it can be theme music for almost any mood. Cons: will make you feel slightly schizophrenic.
this album is easily one of the most exceptional pieces of music of our time, and is highly under-rated. from the first fuzzy opening chords to the last wisps of guitar, i was hooked on this album from day one. i find that it perfectly suits a variety of...

We need more music like this.
by matthitcham ,Dec 07 '04
Pros: A magical experience, well blended and beautiful. Cons: Theres not enough tracks!
What can I say? In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is one of the greatest musical experiences I have ever had. The songs flow delicately into one another and it is a very nice trip. Folk based Indie rock, blended in nicely with all sorts of horns and wind instruments, musical interludes and killer tracks. An album which has both heavier songs and extremely gentle ones, but amazingly, it is impossible to tell the difference. It is a magical journey from start to finish, very emotional, very exciting, and very uplifting. Music for all moods, which is very hard to find. You can party to it, relax with it, turn it up, turn it down, it is completely versatile. Please bring us another album Neutral Milk Hotel.

Good stuff
by spikes14 ,Apr 16 '06
Pros: Overwhelmingly good Cons: Nothing
Honestly this is the best album i have heard in a long time. There is no equivelent to this band, no other band can even thouch Magnums sound. Its a simple sound, but increadibly intense and theres no other band that has crammed so much honesty into one album. For an expirience that may very well change your opinion on music, pick up this indie rock classic.
