Pros: enjoyable punk rock with maturity Cons: some blending toward the end
I usually cringe when I hear the term "pop-punk" these days. That phrase calls to mind bands like Good Charlotte and New Found Glory. However, I have to remind myself that punk bands can be poppy without being whiny and self-absorbed. Such is the ...

Pros: A few songs that effectively incorporate emotions in moderation Cons: Too much is predictable, eye-rolling emo sap that is unimpressive and painful to listen to
Over the past ten years or so, there have been countless reasons to be skeptical of "The" bands. I don't feel the need to elaborate so much on that; taking a look at the emo and/or monotonous sound that seems to be cluttering the music scene should sum ...

Pros: A few sincere heartfelt tracks, a promising future. Cons: Cheesy lyrics, repetitive, you really need to be into the "emo" thing to enjoy.
When someone mentions the Ataris, I instantly think of last summer's (2003) Warped Tour. The Ataris were the first band to play the main stage, and being mildly interested in the band my friend and I went to watch. It was insane. The crowd was GIANT. ...

Pros: Down to earth lyrics and excellent emo punk musical style Cons: Sounds very much like other in the genre.
The Ataris have become somewhat of an underground success over the years. After a two year hiatus, the Ataris released So Long, Astoria. The album is their major label debut on Columbia records. The development of the albums lyrics was...

Pros: Still great music and lyrics Cons: A little on the emotional side at times; too much for my taste
The Ataris have gone through a lot. They have gotten major underground success in the last five years due to Warren Fitzgerald and Joe Escalante of The Vandals. They were signed for Kung Fu Records under a 5 year contract, and have been...

Pros: Built on the classic Ataris sound, the sincerity and passion make this album unmissable. Cons: Somewhat similar to other Ataris albums.
If you're already familiar with the Ataris, then you'll find this to be the perfect progression from End Is Forever. If you've never heard the Ataris before, this is a definitely strong album to get started on. If you like fast, uplifting music in...

Pros: standard pop-punk emo rock, still sounds indie, the boys of summer Cons: ...standard pop-punk emo rock...still sounds indie
I do not consider myself to be a huge fan of the "emo" genre which seems to have been created rather recently. However, I have enjoyed some parts The Ataris' So Long, Astoria not knowing anything of the band's history or style. I had ...

Pros: The feeling they put into their songs. Cons: They sound a little like "The Wallflowers".
I remember when I first heard The Ataris. It was at my friend Jessica's and she was playing them on the computer and I remember falling in love with them right then and there, I had to get their CD. I love their sound even though that I believe that...

So Long, Astoria, Hello Billboard
by ktbspa85 ,Oct 04 '03
Pros: The hidden tracks, the lyrics, and the artwork. Cons: Nothing.
To date, I feel this is the best album The Ataris have put out. Honest, straightforward lyrics paired with and rock and roll edge that's not only catchy, but also addictive. Their cover of "Boys of Summer" is one of the best covers I've ever heard. "My Reply" is touching and the element of reality behind it really reaches out and grabs the listener. The artwork reflects the individuality of the group as well as accentuates the content of the songs, such as the letter from the bulimic girl that's in the CD booklet next to the lyrics for "My Reply". I like every song on this CD, and I'm pretty hard to please. There are two hidden tracks as well, including an acoustic version of "The Saddest Song".

The Boys Of Summer
by qtran77 ,Nov 29 '03
Pros: good intrumentals, good vocals, has songs that I'll listen to forever Cons: same old, same old
Here's to "The Boys of Summer" the cover song that won me over to the Ataris. Even though they didn't write it, they did they rest so beautiful.
This record/album has a oh, man what's that word? Seriously, it's on the tip of my tongue. I'll just call it reminiscent, but it's not it. It's a "reminder of the past" kind of tone. If you know what I'm talking about tell me on the rating page.
Okay, maybe I've been listening to this CD too long but it's getting annoying. I used to love this CD though. Especially in the summer. Hence, "The Boys of Summer". The tone of this CD is almost sad something you'll listen to and get chills. I'm glad I own this CD though. There are tons of songs on this album that you'll love.

are the ataris say so long, astoria?
by kodikodak ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: these songs came out of someone's heat, their soul Cons: it takes someone who likes this type of music to like this c.d.
the ataris have earned their respect from people all over the world with their albums before. did people really like their latest album though? aparantly they did because their albums are sold out in many places that you go to. many people like this c.d. because they wrote some songs that teenagers relate to. this is the kind of music that they want to hear. i asked ten 14 year olds which song they thought related to their life the most, 8/10 said "in this diary" was the song that related to their life, they also told me that it was probly one of the best that they have ever heard. i asked ten more 14 year olds if they even liked the c.d. 9/10 said that this was probly the best rock/emo c.d. that has been released all year. they told me that they liked it because the songs are pure and mean something. they arnt just songs that people paid to write them, they came out of someone's heat, their soul. i happen to feel the same way about this.
