Pros: Sinead O'Connor's vocals, excellent production, the mixture of many sounds is still there Cons: It is clearly not as good as its predecessor, Mezzanine
After listening to that stunning album known as Mezzanine, my love for Massive Attack has grown into obsession. It has been 5 years since Massive Attack have released an album and in 2003, they finally released their new album, 100th...
Pros: A few decent songs, Musically interesting, More creative than most Massive Attack albums Cons: A lot of the same type pieces, More vague than engaging.
It is official; now that I have made my way through the entire album discography of Massive Attack, I feel confident in saying I am not a fan. It is strange that I mention this at the beginning of my review to "100th Window," a Massive Attack album ...
Pros: The tracks with Sinead O Connor. Cons: The tracks without Sinead O Connor.
Massive Attack has never made much sense. Beyond being master mixers who have re-mixed other artist’s singles or extending invitations to guest vocalists on their own albums, Massive Attack is only as good as who they remix or invite. Like Mez ...
Pros: Incredibly atmospheric, dark, melodic, and well-produced Cons: This ain't boogeyin' music
First off, let me vent for a bit.
What the &%$# is up with bands making their CD art (not the booklet, but the art actually on the CD) nonexistent? Why should I need to put on my reading glasses to figure out which side of the CD is...
Pros: Production, Arrangements, Sound Textures, Atmospheric Tone, & Vocals by Sinead O'Connor. Cons: Some Tracks Either Drag or Don't Reach Great Heights.
After the huge acclaim and success for 1998's Mezzanine, things were going great for the group Massive Attack in terms of what they have done for electronic music. Unfortunately, problems were emerging inside of the band as longtime member ...
Pros: What Your Soul Sings, A Prayer For England Cons: Special Cases, Name Taken, (Bonus Track)
I saw a commercial for the new album on TV and I totally freaked out. I wasn't able to buy it immediately though. I had to wait a whole 10 hours! I am a huge fan of Massive Attack and, even though I've heard none of the new tracks, I bought it without...
Pros: Sinead O'Connor. 3D's new singing style. Cons: for some: Sinead O'Connor. 3D's new singing style. no hip-hop or dance tunes.
Natural that Massives fourth be a tad one-dimensional or that it have more of a punk (read: industrial) ambience to it Grant 'Daddy G' Marshall sat out on this album to take some time with his newborn daughter, and so the view through...
Pros: post-rock calibre ambience Cons: mediocrity in some of the songs' melodies (i.e. Special Cases, Name Taken)
Massive Attack have looked to post-rock. For me, This is really wonderful. These trip-hop pioneers only mildly impressed me with their initial albums: Protection and Blue Lines. Each were commercial successes bringing other trip hop ...
Pros: If you like dark - which most fans of MA do - you'll be happy. Cons: No Liz Frazier, No Tracy Thorn, No Tricky and so on..
I must say, I've been waiting for the latest Massive Attack release with bated breath. From the pioneer work done by the Wild Bunch on the early stuff, to the dark, sinister and dreamy soundscape of Mezzanine, Massive Attack has consistently been a...
Pros: Elegant TripHop with some enchanting vocals by Sinéad O'Connor. Cons: These sounds are not new in particular.
In early 2003 Massive Attack released their fourth studio album, 100th Window. Even though the album certainly sounds like Massive Attack, original members Grant Marshall (aka Daddy G) and Andrew Vowles (aka Mushroom), did not contribute to this ...
One star on first listen, but.... by ianguy007 ,Mar 05 '07
Pros: It is another Massive Attack album Cons: It is not their best
If you come looking for a simple, happy set of tunes, don't! This time Massive Attack have teamed up with Sinhead O'Connor, whacky Irish artist, and in places it becomes downright depressing. It can be a grower, but if you want to get into Massive Attack, do it chronologically!
In places the songs are just loops of noise and beats, ideal for on an Ipod on a long flight or train journey, but it'll drive you made in a car.
The O'Connor songs are downright gloomy and scary, and almost have an imagery to a Wilfred Owen WW1 war poem. If you are easily offended by political anti-Iraq war messages this is NOT for you.
