Pros: A lot of really good songs, wonderful lyrics, fast paced, PunkRawka’s review Cons: Sounds a lot like Straight Ahead
From The Ashes… As much as I respect Punkrawka as a reviewer, I thoroughly disagreed with his (mysteriously early) review of From The Ashes. In it, which you should definitely check out because it’s a really good read, he comments ...
Pros: Quality songs throughout Cons: Same Pennywise sound becomes a little tedious
There are some bands that most people within a certain genre of music will appreciate. There are some bands who carry with them that immortal feeling of ruling the world: Pennywise are one of these such bands. To the ordinary person their music ...
Pros: lyrics, vocals, melodies Cons: nothing new and unique
What to say about Pennywise? Four friends who have been making music for well over a decade (15 years now) in hopes of affecting people and changing the world; be it through a single person or a much larger scale. Their eighth studio album,From ...
Pros: Pennywise composed similar sounds nevertheless From the Ashes uniquely illustrates PW at their most genuine. Cons: The fact that PW has many songs to choose from, add more to their CD.
From the Ashes was released only 2 days short from the 2nd year anniversary of 9/11. The band executes a central theme criticizing the United States government, which they have valiantly revealed in their last couple of CD's, yet From the Ashes uniquely illustrates PW at their most genuine. Their artistic talents are expressed through the quality of each song. Jim Lindberg sings with a perfect pitch and precision, Fletcher Dragge displays he is ruthless and tasteful on the guitar; Randy Bradbury's bass sound performs in meaningful sequence, and Byron McMackin carries out on the drums with a lively, brisk and radical power.
Pros: Rock solid album as usual, great at high volume Cons: took a little longer than usual to get into it.
Pennywise is one of only a few bands i will continuously go out the day of the release to get the new album. This time around I was not let down. The album has the usual loudness and quality I've come to expect from pennywise. This album should be played loud, and the recording of this album has a nice crunchy sound that sounds good, but at it's best a high volume. Every song on the album has grown on me, some faster than others, but as always, I feel there is not a single song worth skipping over on this album, from start to finish it is great stuff. As in reviews by others here and elsewhere, pennywise may come back to sounds and messages they have visited in the past, but that's what makes them a steadfast band, one you can hold on to. They talk about things that have meaning to them, and this album touches some new things including the devastation of September 11th. Plus, you get a free DVD with Fletcher puking... I think 4 times.
