Sting is one of those rare artists whose inspiration and talent were not exhausted during a highly successful career performing as a group. All of his work--with The Police and as a solo artist--has been imbued with passion and intelligence, making him perhaps one of the most successful breakaway performers of all time. But with every well there is a time when it will run dry.

Sting clearly continues on the path he was on when creating his last album, Brand New Day, with an eclectic mix of musical styles. This was highly successful in the previous album but Sacred Love contains no "Desert Rose". Where the previous album had depth in the arrangements, Sacred Love sounds thin and overprocessed. For those of us who were elated with Ten Summoner's Tales and looked forward to the follow-up, only to have our hopes dashed by Mercury Falling, this will be a familiar feeling.

Obviously all Sting fans are going to buy this disc no matter what the reviews say out of loyalty--I did--and loyalty is the only thing that will make you sit through it in it's entirety.
