"and the man with the golden gun thinks he knows so much"

by brendan2 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 07 '05
Pros: 20 lovely songs, bonus dvd
Cons: can't please everyone
Quite recently, I found myself in desperate need of a new man ho. My old ones were all worn out and were no longer fun to play with, so I went out in search of a new toy. I found nothing that interested me, but I felt the pressure to get ...

A Greatest Hits Compilation Topped With Snow Cherries From France

by Monnie1976 Monnie1976 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 20 '03
Pros: Some of Tori's best material, great new songs that rival the best
Cons: No fan is going to completely agree with the song list
Tori Amos, whether she’s a raging nymph with the wail of a banshee or a quiet, introspective intellect with a pen, is showcased on a fantastic greatest hits compilation titled Tales of A Librarian. The funny thing is in the whole of her career she ...

Tori Amos's Two-Disc (Sort Of) Best Of (More Or Less): "Tales Of A Librarian."

by wlswarts wlswarts is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 24 '08
Pros: Some truly wonderful singles and recognizable hits
Cons: DVD is more or less worthless, One or two real duds.
I have a fantasy that I could write a one line review about a Tori Amos album and it would be enough for all who read it to truly understand how one of her albums is. So, for "Tales Of A Librarian: A Tori Amos Collection," I would like to be able to ...

Celebrating her top ten in the charts of pain.

by pt-paratroopa , Oct 17 '04
Pros: What, you need an invitation?
Cons: Slightly disappointing track selection.
For most of my Epinions career, I've been a huge fan of the talented Tori Amos. However, unlike making my huge Tori obsession public, as I've done with the likes of Madonna and Alanis Morissette, I've chosen to keep my ...

Tears in our hands

by Guildenstern Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Feb 25 '04
Pros: Many
Cons: Few
WARNING: This review contains superlatives. Tori is quite something. She can just as easily hold you at arms length and refuse to communicate, as she can bare open her mind for all to share. It’s that slew of thoughts that pours out that makes her so ...

A Catalog of Musical Genius: Tori Amos' Library

by theinnergeek , Jan 26 '04
Pros: More than a "greatest hits" collection; fun bonus DVD material.
Cons: Omits some of her more accessible songs.
Note: Portions of this review are adapted from my review of Tori Amos' "Scarlet's Walk" CD, available on Epinions here: ht tp://www.epinions.com/content_ 81994550916 Who is Tori Amos? Tori Amos has a ...

Some hits and some misses make a muddled retrospective.

by krisisPM , Oct 17 '04
Pros: A passable entry point for new listeners. Some great, subtle remixes. Two new songs.
Cons: Leaves off some essentials; should have remastered ALL of Little Earthquakes instead. Awful "Widow" remix.
Tales of a Librarian: A Tori Amos Collection is neither a traditional greatest hits collection, or a collection of fan favorites. Instead, it presents twenty songs that Tori Amos considers autobiographically important. The disc acts as a passable ...

The Best Tales Of A Strange Librarian

by andremf , Dec 10 '03
Pros: Good (but unusual) selection of Tori Amos' best songs.
Cons: Not All Tori's hits are included.
On November 18th, 2003, one of the five most influential rock stars of all time according to Q magazine released her first ever collection. Tori Amos, the American pianist, composer and singer made up a compilation, entitled Tales Of A Librarian, of ...

Add another voice to the choir

by tedluk , Mar 02 '04
Pros: A great introduction to the works of the goddess.
Cons: "Professional Widow" remix (Why, why, why?)
Not much to say that hasn't been said already. Tori is just something so special, so rare, so amazing that it's hard to even express it in words to people. "Tales" is truly a great place for the uninitiated to start what, I hope, will be a lifelong ...

A true visionary!

by northernlad , Dec 04 '03
Pros: Everything is a plus point
Cons: none, except maybe the Professional Widow remix?
For anyone who knows of Tori Amos, you will already know that she is one of the most innovative, mature and creative female artists of our time, and this collection is the proof. Along with two new songs, Angels and Snow Cherries From France, there are ...

Hopefully just the first volume!

by prestonicko , Dec 31 '03
Pros: -Strong use of classic songs and fan favorites -Library metaphor is clever
Cons: -DVD that comes with the CD could have had more worthwhile extras.
Tori Amos' latest release, the career retrospective Tales of a Librarian, is the perfect CD for new Tori fans, die-hard Tori fans, and all shades in between. This CD includes classic songs from most of Tori's previous albums in her now 10 years of ...

Tori Tales:Tales of a lifetime
by fairydustgirl ,Dec 04 '03
Pros: Different versions of some of her old songs, B-sides and new songs.
Cons: Could have had more songs on the DVD.I cant get enough
Tori;s new CD and DVD tales of a Librarian is an great collection for anyone to have.Even if someone is not a devoted Tori fan it will touch your heart, Tori is an excellent artist and it really shows in her new collection. Some of the old and some of the new is a wonderful combination. I enjoyed hearing my favorite old songs and hearing the new songs. The DVD gives a glimpse of Tori in a rare situation. Her soundchecks are as good as her performing in concert. This is a great gift Tori has given to her fans.

A Gem for the True Tori Fan
by rosewynd ,Dec 03 '03
Pros: Two all new tracks, Angels and Snow Cherries from France :D
Cons: Professional Widow is the techno dance version.
Includes reworkings of Tori Classics, Cornflake Girl, God, Way Down, and B-Sides Mary & Sweet Dreams. Plus two brand new songs for the Toriphile, Angels & Snow Cherries from France. The latter song I've been waiting to hear for YEARS. A lovely conceptual design to the album's theme. DVD tracks are wonderful as well. A must have addition to any Tori Amos collection.

Famous Amos
by twinpeaks15 ,Dec 30 '03
Pros: Every track on this album is a gem.
Cons: Excludes classic Tori tracks like "Hey Jupiter" and "Raspberry Swirl"
Tori has been bearing her soul for the past 12 years, so it is fitting that she finally receive a proper compilation album featuring her most electrifying recordings.

"Little Earthquakes" is the album from which the most tracks are drawn, with a whopping 6 tracks, including the quintessential "Silent All These Years" and the riveting "Precious Things".

Her other albums all appear to well-represented as well, except "Boys For Pele" which mystifyingly has only two non-single songs that clock in at barely over a minute and one remix that was a #1 smash in Britain only.

The new tracks are something to be excited about as well, especially "Snow Cherries From France", a lovely, whimsical song about a beautiful summer spent with a young love.

The only complaint one could make is that Ms. Amos has amassed such an impressive catalogue that great tracks are inevitably left out. "Tales of a Librarian" is a fitting tribute to the career thus far to one of the greatest female rockers of all time.

Tales of a Librarian
by liquidiamond ,Dec 04 '03
Pros: All tracks remastered - sounds great!
Cons: Only 2 new tracks, 2 tracks were re-recorded, the others were only re-mastered.
This CD is an excellent buy! Twenty songs for under $15.00 can't be beat. I've been a Tori fan for almost 10 years and this CD/DVD compilation is superb. All the songs have been digitally re-engineered, including the 2 brand-new tracks. I love it!
The only downside I have found is 14 of the tracks were only re-engineered, not re-recorded to capture Tori's new take on some old greats. I was really hoping to hear the new version of "Tear in Your Hand" (like she's been playing live). Other than that, it's a great buy. There are some great pictures on the DVD. It's a beautiful disc.
