Cyndi Lauper has come back, this time with a group of songs she grew up with. Too many know her as that flashy "she-bopper" from the 80's who just wants to have fun but, yes she has had hits past that. Cyndi Lauper takes a handful of well known songs from the 50's and 60's and makes them her own, such songs as "At Last" by Etta James and "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers.

You might think this new album means Cyndi's toned down from her wild 80's, but she proves that thought wrong with her upbeat renditions of "Stay" and "Sunny Side of the Street", but she even proves she can use the power of her voice to bring a tear to your eye in her cover of "If You Go Away".

All in all, Cyndi proves this album is worthy of being heard by all, old and young. She keeps her vocals in range- she doesn't over do it like other artists do with cover songs. If anyone knows how to put together an album and keep it neat it's Cyndi Lauper.

Pros: Perfect showcase for Cyndi's incredible voice

"At Last" is the album that will make the masses realise what an incredible singer this woman is. I purchased this CD purely on the strength of her previous releases. Even though I am a fan, I was blown away by just how wonderful this CD is. Cyndi has taken 13 classic tracks from the 60's and 70's and breathed new life into them. The musical arrangement is stripped back, allowing for the lyrics to be really heard. "Walk On By" and "If You Go Away" are sung with such emotion, you could cry. "Unchained Melody" is sung like never before, even though it has been covered so many times before. And as for the title track, "At Last", it took a brave and very talented woman to conquer this Etta James classic. And to show that she's still having fun, "Stay" and "Sunny Side Of The Street" are given the Cyndi treatment. "At Last" is the must have CD of 2003.

Pros: Good version of Walk On By, Stay, and Makin' Whoopee
Cons: Very uneven vocal work on many tracks.

I saw Cyndi Lauper sing in a Broadway type production on Bravo, and thought I would try her album of standards. Some she does a fairly good job on. Walk on By is one, Stay is another. But I think she is not really up to most of the other tunes on this disc. La Vie En Rose is Gawdawful--and I have heard many renditions of the song. She simply does not have the pipes for most of this music, and she screeches in the upper registers of the songs. Oddly, she is very capable with Tony Bennett on Makin' Whoopee---maybe singing with the old man calmed her voice--maybe she's good in this range. Unless you like Cyndi a whole lot, beware--as a torch singer, she is not ready yet, and may never be.

Pros: At last, Stay, and more
Cons: The album's not as popular as it deserves to be.

Cyndi still proves that her voice is much better than any other 'popular' females singers these days. All songs show her endless power and that's why we still love this lady. At last, Walk on by, Stay and Unchained Melody are masterpieces. One recommendation is buy this album and go to her concert and you'll realise that Cyndi is a musical artist that American people should be proud of.

Her musical talent is so excellent that, for me, she deserves to be mentioned as Meryl Streep of the music world!

This CD is Great!
It's totally different from what I was expecting
when I first heard about it. Cyndi's versions of these songs
are totally original, and in her own unique styles,
and she puts so much emotion into these songs, it's great!
I listened to this CD and I love the way Cyndi sings these songs! I'm glad she doesn't sing them exactly
like everybody else does, because we've all heard these songs a lot, so it's great the way Cyndi's doing them differently, and giving them entirely new meaning.

Yes, It is a serious and emotional album,
with only 3 fun songs,
but it's still a great album!
