"There's Beauty In The Breakdown..."

by speeddemon531 speeddemon531 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Jan 03 '05
Pros: A soundtrack that fits the movie perfectly, also doubles as a life-contemplating mix tape.
Cons: ...
Is it possible to appreciate a movie soundtrack without ever seeing a movie? Truth be told, not a lot of soundtracks hold up without the association from the movie they originated from. Do you think the 12 million folks that bought the "Titanic" ...

Garden State, the Soundtrack

by cdm72 cdm72 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Music, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 25 '09
Pros: It's all good.
Cons: None worth mentioning.
Some films just have this power, you know? Something about the story or the themes or the acting just grabs people and changes their lives. In 2004, Zach Braff, the goofy-looking guy from SCRUBS, wrote, directed, and starred in just such a movie called ...

Dude, the garden state soundtrack... it's like, good

by updateghost Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 13 '04
Pros: Most, especially "Let Go", "Caring is Creepy", and "New Slang".
Cons: That song with the really long title; girls like Jessica loving "Blue Eyes" so much.
One of the scary things about buying a soundtrack is the small chance of it being good. I noted in my Of fice Space soundtrackreview that many songs can sound very good when played during a movie, but tend to collapse ...

This Review Will Change Your Life, I Swear!

by SixerMan , Jul 05 '05
Pros: Some of the best songs you've never heard
Cons: Drags in spots, but flows well overall
Borrowing from one of the most well-known lines from the movie, the sticker on the cover of this album reads "You gotta hear these songs, they'll change your life I swear!". At first, I simply rolled my eyes and dismissed it as hyperbole, much like Zach ...

The Garden State Soundtrack Is Good, But It Didn't Quite Change My Life

by donkee , Aug 21 '06
Pros: Great selection, tracks from The Shins, Frou Frou, and Zero 7 are especially good
Cons: ...album starts to drag towards the middle (Read Review)
Garden State was a movie that grew on me. The first time I watched it, I remember shrugging and thinking, "Yeah, so what?” The media, and even my friends, had hyped it up to be this great, life-changing film, but I didn't really see what was ...

The best soundtrack of 2004

by space_dog , Dec 31 '04
Pros: This soundtrack sounds like it could be my life soundtrack.
Cons: Colin Hay's song left something to be desired.
"Garden State" is the sleeper hit and debut film by "Scrubs" star Zach Braff. Not only did he write the screenplay but he also directed the film and starred in it. Zach's character Andrew Largeman who has spent most of his life on various ...

It will change your life!
by rcunningham23 ,Nov 13 '05
Pros: Probably the best put together soundtrack.. EVER.
Cons: NONE!
As I consider myself ColdPlay's number one fan, I was impressed from the first song, Don't Panic. I'm also a big fan of Remy Zero, Nick Drake and Zero 7 so the fact that I liked these songs came as no surprise to me.

But what a great find and wonderful surprise with the 9th track: Lebanese Blonde - Thievery Corporation and the 11th track: Such Great Heights - Iron and Wine. These two songs alone are worth the cost of the CD.

I loved the way The Postal Service sang Such Great Heights and would have booed anyone who'd try to redo it. But Iron and Wine's version sounds like a completely different song except for the lyrics. I had not even bothered to look at the back of the CD when I borrowed it so the 11th track was almost finished before I started to recognize the lyrics! I loved Iron and Wine's rendition.

Whoever is responsible for putting these songs together deserves a pat on the back. Throwing Simon & G's The Only Living Boy In New York in the middle of these not as well-known songs was genius!

"Whatcha waiting for?" BUY THIS ALBUM
by twinklestinkle ,Nov 22 '04
Pros: Eclectic, soothing, calming
Cons: "Winding Road"
The Garden State soundtrack is excellent and well-worth the money. What makes this soundtrack so good is the variety. Frou Frou, The Shins, and even Nick Drake make up the album. It's the diversity that makes the album what it is- excellent. I play this CD when I'm feeling down, or when I'm feeling happy. It is versatile, and goes with any mood.

The only thing that I didn't like about the "Garden State" soundtrack was the last song, "Winding Road" by Bonnie Somerville. The song is not like any of the other eclectic, calm songs. It sticks out like a sore thumb, so to say. When I first heard it, I thought it was Jessica Simpson or Mandy Moore; it was THAT unoriginal.

Track for track the best compilation this decade...
by emeacham ,Jul 13 '05
Pros: the greatest compiled album of artists in years!
Cons: only 13 tracks long :(
For most people, a poor story line with great acting saves the movie from being considered a total flop. Garden State is no such movie, or soundtrack.

You are drawn into every scene with a the sound of soul... regardless of your preference of music, you're bound to enjoy this soundtrack. Featuring tracks by Coldplay, Iron and Wine, Simon & Garfunkel, and Nick Drake, Garden State has it's bases covered in more than just it's story and acting.

By far, this is the best soundtrack I have ever bought. I decided when I saw the movie earlier this year, that I would buy this soundtrack the next day; I knew I wouldn't be disappointed -- and I was right!

Great movie, even better soundtrack. No wonder it won the Sundance Film Festival.
