Pros:One of the defining releases of the decade Cons:Short
Sri Lanka's Mathangi Arulpragasam - MIA - turned BJORK redundant with her 2005 extraordinary debut Arular. BJORK relentlessly tried to emulate her unique World Music approach to Hip Hop and Electro in her latest release Volta - to uneven outcomes. Arular ...
Pros: Infectious beats Cons: Weak bubblegum & often unintelligible Vocals,
Amalgamation of sound: too much going on at once
M.I.A Arular Produced by XL Review by Marsha Castello M.I.A who? I hear you say? Well listen up people because my sources say you are going to be hearing quite a lot from this young lady, hell, she may even be the next big thing, or should I say ...
Pros: Great beats, great lyrics, a breath of fresh air for the hip hop genre. Cons: some songs have very similar soundbytes and samples, short (only 39 minutes)
London born, Sri-Lankan rapper Maya Arulpragasam a.k.a "M.I.A." may have just made the years best hip-hop album with "Arular," or maybe its the best dance album of the year? Or maybe it's both, but either way, its still a damn good album. I would ...
Pros: unique, great beats, political awareness Cons: N/A
MIA's Arular is a CD worth listening to. I'm not a music expert by any means, but I have always enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music. This is especially true in today's music scene, where you hear the same 5 songs repeated on the radio all day. Arular provides mainstream America with a unique sound. It seems as if other reviewers have criticized MIA for both a lack of a political message, as well as for being too harsh; I strongly disagree with both of those comments. I think she is first and foremost a musician, who also happens to be a Sri Lankan immigrant. Her music is entertaining and fun -- the beats make you want to get up and dance. But she also sprinkles the songs with her experiences, allowing listeners to step inside the life of someone living a completely different life than what they may be used to. Ultimately, I think this is the beauty of music, and MIA shows us this.
This is THE BEST ALBUM out!!>ARULAR by shailees ,Oct 15 '05
Pros: great beat, unique sound, pumps you up Cons: not able to understand what she's saying until the 2nd time you hear the music
I love her *UNIQUE* sound!! It just caught my ears to hear her different taste. I bought this product because I wanted to support this artist(M.I.A.), & she's genuine& her work is Fantastic. Her lyrics are so explicit & meaningful. i love IT it's AMAZING a new kind of hip hop/rap/..it really does not have a genre. My favorite songs are Sunshowers, Bucky done gone, Galang + MORE, I LOVE THE WHOLE CD, I PAID $18 BUT IT IS WORTH IT!!!I even went to her concert and SHE ROCKS MY SOCKS!!!NOTHING TO HATE ABOUT IT...well at first you might not be able to understand what she's saying because she's from Britain but once you listen to it twice you'll understand it & look over her lyrics! =)
