The Band's First Waltz: Just As Essential As Their Last

by MattA75 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jun 16 '05
Pros: everything: lyrics, music, arrangements, creativity, diversity
Cons: a pointless term not applicable to this record
I'm a music obsessed geek. Now, most of you already know this from the fact that I've submitted review after review on artist after artist. But one of my worst habits is discovering the influences on the artists who I love the most. I've delved deep ...

Better than the Beatles; a review of THE Band.

by believableblue , May 17 '04
Pros: Musicianship, songs, solidity, feeling, emotion
Cons: Hardly.
The Band seem to be one of those bands that only true music lovers know about. I am ashamed as I only discovered them recently through my girlfriend's uncle. Boy was I missing out. Since my recent foray into their engaging, timeless and often ...

Big Music From The Band!

by sam-pro Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 15 '03
Pros: Highly entertaining! Every listen gets better! Timeless!
Cons: I simply cannot bring myself to mention any as there are none worth mentioning!
Q.= Ok, what's the name of the band? A.= The Band. Yeah but what's their name? Well...The Band. O ...

In the Pink

by Justin_Cord , Mar 06 '03
Pros: timeless music that is practically uncategorizable
Cons: the slow pace of most songs can delay your love for the album
Music from Big Pink is the debut album from The Band, and it's one of the best debuts in rock history.

Despite being comprised almost entirely of Canadians, The Band created a sound that was equal parts American roots music (think stuff from O...

Get It Up From Out Of Yer Basement

by pach1908 , Aug 29 '00
Pros: music like this doesn't age a day because it isn't part of time
Cons: except the cd is only 75 minutes long
Ghosts are coming out of my speakers -- or from somewhere as I listen. One of the ghosts has a crystalline soprano, that must be Richard Manuel and I think he's telling me it's been too long. I'm not sure since what, but hearing his voice again aching...

Whew...The Band Has Three Friends

by renewal2 , Apr 10 '00
Pros: A trend-setting tour de force.
Cons: The Band is mainly gone from the scene.
The Band has pretty well passed from the scene. I never really did buy the idea of the Band as a big force in rock and roll. I have always seen it as an eccentric blend of relatively high sophistication and a sort of faux Appalachian down-homeness.

MusicFromBigPink: Rustic, Reverent, Ravishing

by m001 , Jan 24 '00
Pros: Authentic, Rootsy Vision of Americana, Song Cycle of the Heartland
Cons: None
If ever an album documented a vision of Americana, Music from Big Pink does, in a way that can only be described as cinematic and archival. This is an album of song-stories, of tales to be passed between men and women, of tradition and trust. Far...

Changed my life
by nux1234 ,Jun 07 '06
Pros: Absolutely timeless
Cons: Once it grabs you, there is no letting go!
I was about fifteen when I discovered Big Pink in a small little record store in Durban South Africa. I had seen the Last Waltz a few years earlier and found The Band very intriguing. After years of searching for an album by The Band I found Big Pink and it literally changed my life. My friends did not get it,but I just could not stop listening to this absolutely timeless and beautiful music! I play it at least once a week to fuel my soul with purity.
