Pros: Lithgow's over-the-top performance, incredible supporting cast. Some inventive, witty moments. Cons: confusing, pacing issues, dated, over-thought
Summary: Whatever you were thinking (my Blue Blazer friends) this circa 2002 DVD (still available) of one of the 1980s quirkiest cult movies is exactly the sort of special edition package Banzai fans hoped it would be be. So Laugh while you can, Monkey, ... read more

Pros: Bizarre, obtuse premise with an infinite amount of stuff to take in, put together well Cons: Falls to the generic plot structure of action films, the story starts out impenetrable
Summary: One of the weirdest movies I've seen in a while. The box art doesn't entail what's inside because it's almost impossible to describe it. A neuro surgeon, rockstar and samurai (Among other things) named Buckaroo Banzai is evidently forced to battle aliens ... read more

Pros: Quirky plot, sly humor and a great performance from John Lithgow. Cons: They never made the sequel!!!
Summary: I still remember walking out of the theater after seeing The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The Eighth Dimension (1984) thinking "That was great!". I also remember anticipating the sequel we were teased with at the end credits Buckaroo ... read more

Pros: Lots of goofy fun and action, an early glimpse of future stars Cons: To be blunt, its total nonsense
Summary: On Christmas past, I received under the tree (metaphorically speaking, I don't have a tree) a very nice gift from a good friend: a DVD copy of Buckaroo Banzai in the Eighth Dimension.
A sentimental favorite of mine, having seen it as a ... read more

Pros: Fantastic transfer, wide-screen presentation, loads of extras. Cons: None, other than that there is no sequel.
Summary: I just picked up Buckaroo Banzai on DVD from Fry's electronics "lost leader" department for $12.99. Since I sold my LaserDisc of the old pan-and-scan (for $150!), I have pined away for this movie.
This movie's history seems to be as complex as ... read more

Pros: A very strange and very funny movie. Cons: A very strange film. And they never made the sequel.
Summary: Experimental jet car driver. Brilliant neurosurgeon. Nuclear physicist. Comic book hero. Personal physician to the President of the United States. Rock star. Founder of the Banzai Institute for Bio-Medical Engineering and Strategic Information. The ... read more

Pros: Strange, funny, memorable, imaginative, no sequels or prequels (so far) Cons: Kind of a mess, not always lucid
Summary: I once downloaded the Buckaroo Banzai FAQ and gleaned from it
that this was conceived as a more of a comedy, then re-edited to
remove the punchlines and peddle it as a (halfway) straight sci-
fi adventure. I would say that's as good an ... read more

Pros: Those guys were so cute back then! Cons: "hokey" but with redeeming qualities
Summary: Okay, I saw this movie SOOOooo long ago, that a lot of the details have slipped my aging, ginkgo biloba fed mind. However, I do recall it was one of the funniest, silliest, "sticks in your head" kind of films I'd ever seen and you have to ... read more

Pros: Off-the-wall, zany, kooky movie. Cons: The 80s look is out of style
Summary:
"Buckaroo Banzai" is one of those movies that makes me glad I was an adult while living through the 80s; thus, I get a heady and pleasant flashback while watching this movie in the new millenium. While all of the gaudy fashion ... read more

Pros: The whole wild whacky film event, Off the Wall funny! Cons: They promised a sequel! Where is it? Where?
Summary: Across the 8th Dimension. Yes, this must be the place. Buckaroo and the Hong Kong Cavaliers (those hard-rocking scientists) are about to embark on an adventure. Now DON'T look for a coherent and logical plot, great acting, (although it ain't bad) or 21st ... read more

Pros: Fun. Loads and loads of un. Cons: Was there a story? I must've missed it...
Summary: It is indeed sad when a movie is called a cult classic merely for being a disjointed series of random images. This is more a collage than a film, and although I can understand why considering how difficult it must have been to pack a book like this ... read more

Pros: "John Baluk is dead. He fell on his head." Cons: Credits sequence has all characters forming huge procession
Summary: When my father told me recently that there really ARE (more than) eight dimensions according to visionary physicist Brian Green, the words "No matter where you go, there you are" entered my mind. This phrase, which was quite popular for a ... read more

Pros: Fun and engaging science fiction -- comic book-esque Cons: premise is kind of rediculous...but get past that and its fun
Summary: This film has a well deserved cult following...witty, fun, outrageous and very engaging.
The toughest part of this film is buying into the premise, but if you can make that leap of faith you'll have a great time!
Buckaroo Bonzai is ... read more

Pros: Humorous, fun movie to see Cons: You may not get it as it is uncategorizable
Summary: I don't think that there is an easy way to describe "Buckaroo Banzai". It does show roots in the comic book genre, but isn't exactly about superheros. It has fun with SF, but definitively isn't SF. Fantasy? Nope. This movie created its own ... read more
