Pros: excellent performances, subtle direction, amazing story Cons: for grown-ups, not a visceral experience
"[W. Mark Felt a/k/a Deep Throat] violated the ethics of the law enforcement profession. If he possessed evidence of wrongdoing, he was honor-bound to take that to a grand jury and secure an indictment, not to selectively leak it to a single ...

Pros: Practically everything Cons: People will complain that its slow and of course, its not for Nixon supporters
The Watergate scandal that played an instrumental role in removing President Richard Nixon from the White House in 1974 has always been something that I had heard a lot about but never knew too much about. Prior to watching the film, All the ...

Pros: Great video for anyone interested in newspaper or history. Cons: Technical production is a little slack. Dark shots.
I was the chairman of the committee to reelect Nixon in 5th grade. Actually I was about the only kid in the class pulling for Nixon. This small town leans very heavy on the Democratic side. Prior to the 1972 election, I was too young to understand or...

Pros: Great acting, Good story, Moments of good character work/development Cons: Character often gets sublimated to the plot, Pacing
For those who do not follow my reviews, I am rather politically involved. I love politics and movies, plays, books and music that deal with politics - modern and historical - tend to interest me. Recently, I found myself enjoying the political satire ...

Pros: Historically accurate and more suspenseful than one might think. Hoffman, Holbrook, Redford, Bradlee and Jack Warden are all fantastic in their roles. Cons: Might be seen as too dry or too much in the past to attract a younger audience.
I recently wrote a review of the comedy "Dick", a satire of the happenings surrounding Watergate. I figured that in order to do history justice I would review the real thing as well.
The scandal that brought down President Richard...

Pros: storyline, acting Cons: ......
Being politically alert (as I can be that is) during this era, All the President's Men was an eerie movie to view. Based on the award winning scoop by Woodward and Bernstein, you are introduced to the scum and tripe of the American government (is...

Pros: Based on real Bernstein and Woodward's account of Watergate Cons: Some may not tolerate the slow pace
The always-charismatic Robert Redford and a young Dustin Hoffman team up in arguably the best American political story ever filmed in All the President’s Men. The popularity of the feature is evident from the eight Oscar nominations it received, a...

Pros: great acting; suspenseful story that is true to history Cons: helps to know about Watergate before viewing the movie
In honor of the upcoming election, I am viewing and then reviewing a movie with a political theme each week (up until the week of November 7). This week I finally found time to view All the President's Men, the classic film about the two...

Pros: An exciting and intense thriller...that actually happened. Cons: A LOT to digest. Multiple viewings required. And read the book.
It’s almost become cliché as to lose its importance. And yet it’s funny. I remember seeing Forrest Gump and the part where Gump is witnessing the burglary. The funny thing is that all the older people laughed and no one in my age group did. I mean...

Pros: Intriguing story, great acting. Cons: Slow in parts, at times somewhat confusing to the uninitiated.
I've been looking forward to seeing this film for a long time. I'm a big fan of the screenwriter William Goldman, a man responsible for some of cinema's greatest screenplays including BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID, THE MARATHON MAN and THE PRINCESS...

Pros: Top-notch acting; plot; cinematography; classic suspense sequences Cons: None, really--though some language may be inappropriate for younger viewers
It all began in the early morning hours of June 17, 1972, when five men were caught by D.C. police breaking into the offices of the Democratic Party's national headquarters at the Watergate office complex. It all ended exactly 784 days later on August...

Pros: true story with great acting Cons: some scenes are too dark; can be hard to hear sometimes
By now, just about everyone knows how the work of Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncovered the Watergate scandal and lead to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. All the President's Men shows everything Woodward...

Pros: Beautifully made; engrossing. Cons: They use the same overhead shot of a car pulling out of a parking lot in two different scenes! Look for it!
All the President's Men is one of the few movies I can stand to watch repeatedly. (Others, in case you're wondering, include Heavenly Creatures, a number of Hitchcock movies, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.) I wasn't alive during the Watergate Scandal;...

Pros: Excellent and interesting portrayal of the Nixon/Watergate scandal Cons: Nothing
Do you ever sit and think how things might have taken a different path? What if Kennedy wasn't asassinated? What if we didn't venture into Vietnam? If you go along this line of thinking, you will inevitably reach a question of Nixon. What if he had...

Pros: acting, importance of subject matter Cons: a little longer than most films
I have never seen this movie on video, but I have seen it several times on television. All the President's Men stars Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as Woodward and Bernstein, the Washington Post reporters who uncovered the Watergate scandal. Jason...
