Pros: Malick's Writing/Direction, Cinematography, Score, Location, Production, Narrative, & Cast. Cons: None.
***Updated 12/10/07 with new cuts, additional content, and such*** After helming his 1973 debut feature, the road crime drama Badlands, Terrence Malick was on his way into becoming one of the most promising directors of his generation. ...

Pros: cinematography, direction, story, cast, score Cons: script is sparse, keep your hanky handy
The documentary "Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography" lavished more screen time on "Days of Heaven" than on any other film. It even went so far as to use the movie's theme as the final credits rolled. It is easy to see why...

Pros: cinematography, acting, interesting story Cons: a little vague about crucial plot element
"Days of Heaven" is Terrence Malick's (Badlands, Thin Red Line) second film. It tells the story of Bill & Abby (Richard Gere and Brooke Adams), two poor lovers who are traveling around the country, going wherever there is work, with...

Pros: An intensely beautiful film, Days of Heaven is one of my very favorites, radiating with purity, engrossing us deeply despite its inherent sadness, despite the lost innocence we hear in Linda Manz's voice. Cons: You need to reserve some time for crying at the ending.
By Max Scheinin.
If films are little or nothing more than a synchronized series of images and sounds, then Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven is one of the most exquisite films ever made, a movie in which every image is crisp and lovely, and the...

Pros: Exquisite photography. Beautiful music. Wonderful cast. Thoughtful story. Cons: it's very slow.
This is an evocative film, photographed with wonderful skill. The director (Terence Malick) is so in love with form and atmosphere that he renders large sections of the film wordless. Perhaps that's why a youthful Richard Gere gives such a strong...

Pros: Brilliant cinematography, Hauntingly gorgeous series of images, Great performances Cons: More of a visual collage than a plot-oriented film (not really a con)
Stunning, sumptuous, gorgeous--words aren't enough to convey the beauty of Malick's vision of turn-of-the-century American. Set in the expanses of the heartland, 'Days of Heaven' swims like liquid across your television screen, like a ocean of wheat...

Pros: Outstanding cinematography, haunting music score Cons: Slow moving plot may not capture your attention
This film is one of those rare films that doesn’t depend upon its plot to entice you. Yes, it does have a plot, but it’s not a reason to see this film. The story grows slowly like the wheat fields that provide its setting. Yes, there is violence, and...

Pros: Masterpiece. Cons: Should be seen on a big screen.
I first saw DAYS OF HEAVEN at a small art theater in the late 70's during its' initial release. As we left the theater I told my wife that it seemed to be very short and rated it 2 stars (out of 4). I felt dull - drained, hardly able to remember a...

Pros: Visually exquisite. Cons: Hard to find playing on a large screen.
By far, one of the most exquisite films I have ever seen is Terrance Malick's 1978 "Days of heaven". I am not speaking of the plot, so if you're an action kinda person, forgeddaboudit.
The good news is that watching "Days of...
