Pros: A surprisingly subtle Cronenberg, fine cast, good script Cons: None
Ever since Stephen Kings Carrie was adapted as a film by Brian De Palma in 1976, most of the novelists major novels, novellas, and some of his short stories have been turned into movies for theatrical release or made-for-TV miniseries; ...

Pros: Walken; Sheen; engaging story; thrills Cons: crazy ending
Before enjoying director David Cronenberg’s 2007 film Eastern Promises, I watched the equally enjoyable, but more flawed, 1983 film The Dead Zone that he also directed. Some of you may actually prefer it over the more recent film because, ...

Pros: Christopher Walken was born to play this role, which later became a gag on SNL. Cons: episodic story, lack of peril for a thriller
I feel like I'm standing on holy ground, like the face of Christopher Walken is going to give me that dead-fish look if I don't tow the line. Ah, Hell. Here I go. The Dead Zone is a 1983 supernatural thriller about a guy who gets hammered by a ...

Pros: Chirstopher Walken; some suspenseful jolts; well-laid sub-plots Cons: Some weak direction; no focus in story
There is a moment in David Cronenberg’s “The Dead Zone” (1983) that confirms why this is one of the only Stephen King adaptations that’s reasonably good. As a supposed psychic is putting his abilities to good use at a fresh crime scene, a sheriff hands...

Pros: Cronenberg's Direction, Script, Location, Look, Score, & Cast, notably Walken. Cons: Cut Material that Might Displease Book Readers.
Known for his novels that helped transcend the genre of horror, Stephen King remains one of the most beloved writers in literature as his own work would often turn into films. In 1983, one of his famed novels entitled The Dead Zone was made into ...

Pros: Fine performances all around, solid direction, plotting and atmosphere. Cons: Some rather gimmicky transitions in an otherwise gripping story.
" lsquo;Bless me ' Do you know what God did for me He threw an 18-wheeled truck at me and bounced me into nowhere for five years! When I woke up, my girl was gone, my job was gone, my legs are just about useless...Blessed me God's been a real sport to ...

Pros: Walken does a spectacular job and the film is way creepier than the book. Cons: Modern movie audiences would probably fall asleep, due to the lack of explosions and CGI's.
There are spoilers in these here hills. The movie is over twenty years old, so I think it's safe to say that everybody who wanted to see "The Dead Zone" has long since had the opportunity. Adapting Stephen King's books to the big screen is a ...

Pros: Walken and Sheen, good plot and acting Cons: Don't watch soon after reading the book.
I saw the Dead Zone years ago, when it first came out on video tape, and I loathed it. I can't remember why I loathed it, but I did. It's quite possible that I read the book just prior to seeing the movie, and the movie fell far short of the book....

Pros: Gripping from start to finish Cons: Dated--who cares?
A mature, pensive thriller, The Dead Zone reminds us that the world keeps turning after our deaths; David Cronenberg communicates this verity--rather, the isolationism such a realization inspires--before a single line of dialogue is even uttered, through...

Pros: Walken's performance is brilliant, story is very intelligent, very close to King's work Cons: it drags a little here and there, but not enough to keep it from being engrossing viewing.
This write off is a momentous occasion for me. This marks my 100th review here at Epinions, so I want to thank Memento-Mori (and wish him a Happy Birthday!) for inviting me. I was struggling to think of something worthwhile for my 100th, and he gave me...

Pros: Good adaptation of Stephen King; good characterization Cons: A bit short
I was pleasantly surprised when I went to see "The Dead Zone" all the way back in late 1983, when it was first released. It's served as one of the few high points for movie adaptations of Stephen King's books and novels. Most of them have...
