Pros: You'll never drive again. Cons: Driving is boring.
What would you do? One day, you're driving along, trying to make a meeting on time, and you pass the most putrid looking semi-truck you've ever seen. Only minutes later, that same semi comes roaring by you, pulls back in front of you and slows back ...
Duel has become a classic. It was filmed in 1971 for television, the first successful producing endeavor for Steven Spielberg. The dialogue is limited and the cast is small. The story is rather simple...a traveling businessman is intimidated by ...
Pros: none Cons: waste of time, pointless, ending sucked, speilberg sucks
"Duel" is Steven Speilberg's first shot at directing and what a bad first shot it was. This movie came out in 1971 and I believe it went straight to video. No surprise there, since it was complete trash. I could be wrong though, maybe it was in theatres. ...
Pros: Terrifying and sweat-inducing Cons: Minor technical flaws--but not nearly enough to spoil the film
It may have been made for television originally, but the 1971 thriller DUEL was the very first major masterpiece in a whole slew of masterpieces for director Steven Spielberg. Not yet twenty-three years old when he made DUEL, Spielberg nevertheless made...
Before Steven Spielberg became the icon of the Hollywood silver screen; before road rage became the rule rather than the exception of the American highways, and before Dennis Weaver saddled up and rode the New York streets, "Duel" appeared as a...
Pros: Very intense, Directed by Spielberg, Doesn't involve complicated details Cons: An older movie, so harder to find
We've all heard of a bad hair day, but Duel will introduce you to THE definition of a bad road day! This is one of Stephen Spielberg's earlier efforts and is a wonderfully intense thriller. Dennis Weaver plays a salesman who becomes the target of a...
Pros: Intense, consistently involving Cons: Too much thinkin'
"Duel", a movie that was directed in 1971 by a kid named Steven Spielberg, is an astonishingly gripping experience for such a low budget, bare-bones type of thriller.
The picture follows David Mann (Dennis Weaver), a nondescript...
Pros: None Cons: Poor plot, bad directing, limited camera shots due to where movie takes place.
On a deserted stretch of desert highway, "David Mann" (Dennis Weaver) is on his way to an important meeting. He eventually catches up with a slow-moving diesel truck, which he decides to pass by. This causes the truck driver to chase "Mann" down and try ...
Pros: fast paced, thrilling as hell! Cars, i love cars. Cons: repetitive, low character development
Duel is a movie which involves a normal man on his daily routine in a rental car. He takes the highway, and doesn't reolize that an 18 wheeler will soon see him as a target for harassment. And thats all that harasses him, the truck, most of the movie...
I don't like to spoil movies by giving away much of the plot. To me it's more fun to see a movie without knowing too much. So for this movie let's just say that it's about a salesman who hits the road to meet with his boss, and on the way inadvertently ...
Pros: - extremely suspenseful, riveting
- no unnecessary crap ... movie cuts right to the chase Cons: none
I don't know how available it is anymore because it was filmed so long ago and because I think it was a RTV (Right To Video). The catch is that this is Steven Spielberg's first film ... before he hit the big-time.
The main attraction of this film...
Pros: The whole movie Cons: You have to wait till it rewinds to see it again
Steven Speilberg's first movie is quite possibly his best. This surreal story of suspense will have you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. The setting is as desolately western as any I have ever seen, and the lead part (Dennis Weaver)...
Lean, Simple, Engrossing, Significant by khdawg ,Dec 26 '05
Pros: Thrilling, lean, great sounds Cons: none
This is one of my favorite films of all time. It has caught on in popularity lately thanks to reruns on TV. Speilberg's first major film, made for television. Dennis Weaver is convincing and easy to relate to in this unusual thriller. The music score is incredible, even the radio playing in the background is interesting. I am not a huge fan of this director, especially lately with some of his autrocities and attempts to rewrite history.
However, in this film you will find something very interesting - the basic story theme for Jaws, with the shark played by a mysterious, terrifying truck.
The DVD Enhanced Sound Makes It Even Better! by egscott ,Apr 17 '05
Pros: Excellent Sound and picture quality Cons: NONE
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. A simple uncomplicated script, minimal special effects, and a handful of actors, all come together in a suspense filled 90 minute Spielburg Made-for-tv movie that can still holds it own after 33 years. The DVD extras include a commentary from Stephen Spielberg that I found to be very interesting. Among other things, you'll learn that the entire movie was made in 12 days!
The DVD also dishes up a high quality picture and ENHANCED STEREO SOUND! After watching the VHS tape for many years with its bland mono-tv-like sound, it's a real treat to actually HEAR and FEEL the rumble of the evil truck's engine. You can even hear the 1970 Plymouth Valiant 6 cylinder engine roar into life every time David Mann (Dennis Weaver) guns the engine!
Keep an eye out for the Pest Control vehicle on the side of the road during one of the chase scenes. It says "Grebleips" on the side of it, Spielburg spelled backwards.
Steven Spielberg directs this high-velocity thriller about a motorist terrorized by an evil truck. Spielberg s first full-length movie, Duel, helped j...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
