Pros: A realistic, original look into a broken family - a timeless classic Cons: Slow-moving and melancholy - but well worth it
Starring: Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton, and Judd Hirsh
The subtle, poignant masterpiece and Academy Award winner for best picture of 1980, “Ordinary People”, is a heartbreaking, character driven tale that evolves around...

Pros: In depth study of people's loss and their emotional journey through this loss. Cons: Sorry, none that I could see. Loved it!
I have never seen a movie that deals with the death of a family member in such a personal way. The movies deals directly with how each family member deals with a death of one of their own. The casting of this movie was absolutely perfect. Timothy Hutton...

Pros: Over-the-top MTM performance with great acting from the rest. Cons: All style and no substance. Doesn't get beyond surface scenes. No depth. Poor ending.

Pros: great acting, great writing Cons: not many
A good actor does not appear to be acting. This is a paraphrase of a statement Timothy Hutton made early in the 1980's. And it's also a good way to describe the performances in Ordiniary People. First there was not a miscasts part in this movie. I read...

Pros: great cast/acting, difficult subject matter Cons: very depressing
One family's difficult and heart-wrenching emotional recovery from a high-school child's accidental death and a younger child's suicide attempt. Mary Tyler Moore is the cold-as-ice mother who is devastated by the death of her son and who cannot find a...
