Pros: Some Gore Effects Cons: Everything Else
Summary: I'm a big fan of B-movie cinema. This is why I often don't listen to people as they trash these films, unless of course they share this interest in cinema with myself. Not heeding warnings has subject me to many a terrible film, but I just keep coming ... read more

Pros: Great use of gore without being gratuitous. Cons: Killer didn't have much screen presence. At all at all.
Summary: Back in the 1980s it seemed like there were slashers everywhere you went. Summer camp wasn’t safe. Babysitting gigs were iffy. Slumber parties couldn’t be trusted. You couldn’t even take a nap in the 80s without running into some kind ... read more

Pros: Gore, and knows what it wants to be Cons: It's just your average shlock and is bad on many levels.

Pros: A solid special edition package, restored picture, academic and trash value. Cons: When I first called it "a movie to dismember," I meant it and still do.
Summary: Grindhouse Releasing's special edition DVD of Juan Piquer Simon's PIECES arrived too late. I wrote my first review of the film in December 2001, one of my earliest, judging it from a crappy, full-frame, bare-bones release from "Diamond." "It ... read more

Pros: A fun atmosphere in a film that does not take itself seriously. A surprise villain. Cons: Plot incoherence together with direction, screenplay, and acting that are mediocre.
Summary: Pieces opens in 1942 with a boy of about ten putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Appearing a picture of innocence, the boy recites "Humpty Dumpty" while music suggesting a child's music box plays in the background. The boy's mother enters the room and ... read more

Pros: Gore, Gore, Gore Cons: Silly acting
Summary: Juan Piquer Simon's 1983 dult film Pieces is about exactly what the film's title implies, it's about people bein chopped up into pieces. Sure it's not the deepest of plots or the most intellectually stimulating concepts in film history, but who cares? ... read more

Pros: Great gore, some classic 80s slasher moments, and that out of the blue ending. Cons: Needs to be released uncut.
Summary: People are rather aware that VHS is not only in its last dying days, but that it has long since been dead and buried. I think that there are some aspects of that that are undeniably true and other parts that aren't. It can be said that no one really goes ... read more

Pros: Lots of eye candy for gore hounds Cons: Just about every aspect of movie making
Summary: Where do I begin? This is a unique film. From the very first scene you realize this isn't an ordinary horror film, in fact it's not an ordinary slasher film either. This movie goes where few films have dared. There is a ton of murder and gore, which is ... read more

Pros: Nudity and violence with good effects work; minimalistic music score Cons: Script; sleaze factor; low production values
Summary: PIECES, the 1983 slasher from Spanish film director Juan Piquer Simon, boasts that “you don’t need to go to Texas for a chainsaw massacre,” but judging from this film, it probably wouldn’t hurt....
PIECES is problematic in many respects, ... read more

Pros: i didn't see the whole thing Cons: i sat through part of it
Summary: When I was in my early 20s, my friend Steve and I would go to the movies all the time. We'd go every Friday or Saturday night and see whatever we were in the mood for. Anyway, "slasher" movies were really big back then. Michael Meyers, Jason, ... read more

Pros: Jack Taylor Cons: IT'S A TOUCH-TONE PHONE!!!
Summary: Ah, there's nothing better than a really bad Italian/Spanish co-production featuring lots of untalented naked ladies, wonderfully laughable gore effects and, yes, the infamous 'phone' sequence - touch-tone phones in the 1940's, eh? Perhaps it was an ... read more
