Pros: Definite Sense of Separation at Ending Cons: Tiny Story Flaw
The riveting monologue that begins this film may as well have been spoken just this morning. Joan Fontain's spoken introduction to <hmtl>Rebecca</html> is timeless.
Olivier plays the role of mysterious tycoon...

Only Alfred Hitchcock’s film to win an Oscar for Best Picture.
This gothic romance has a most eerie love triangle, between the new bride, Joan Fontaine, her husband Laurence Olivier and the first Mrs. De Winter.

Pros: period movie, Lawrence....say no more Cons: there is no sequel!
Rebecca has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. Sir Olivier (sp?) has always been one of my favorite actors ( along with Tom Hanks and Jack Nicholson). I never give details of the plot in any reviews I do.
But you will notice something new...

Pros: great cast, great book and adaptation, excellent settings and black and white photography Cons: The ending is a bit abrupt
So often I have rented a movie upon completion of the book only to be disgusted, disappointed and distraught. Well, maybe distraught is a little overboard, but rest assured that I felt none of these when watching Hitchcock's version of Rebecca. ...

Pros: Eccellent performances Cons: Can be slow at points
This is definitley Hitchcocks best. The performances are amazing. The sets, nothing short of incredible. The final shots in the movie are exquisite. Particularly great performances from Judith Anderson and George Saunders. Apparently, the two leads did...

Pros: Hitchcock's classic suspenseful direction! Cons: A bit of a slow start
Hitchcock brings the twisted story of Maxim DeWinter to life in his first Hollywood film -- winner of the 1940 Academy Award for Best Picture.
This classic film (based on the novel of the same name)stars Laurence Olivier as the wealthy,...

I'm addicted to the book and the movie
by bill_crawford ,Oct 19 '03
Pros: Plot, casting, acting, cinematography, direction Cons: None to my mind
I have no idea how many times I have read the book and seen the movie. I absolutely adore both of them! The movie is a pretty accurate adaptation of the book. As with any movie there some things are omitted and some changes changes were made. Nonetheless the suspense is still there and one is gripped by the events right up until the last scene. The casting is superb! Olivier, Fontaine, and Anderson are wonderful in their roles. Sometimes when playing Trivial Pursuit friends and I like to have "wildcards" in which someone can make up a question. When we have a new player in the group I love to throw in "What was the first name of the second Mrs. deWinter?" Read the book or see the movie to get the answer. (smile)
