Pros: Interesting plot involving time travel and romantic love. Does it get any better? Cons: Just enjoy it, don't try to figure out the time travel part.
I received the DVD movie Somewhere in Time (Collectors Edition) as a Christmas gift. Ive enjoyed this movie since it was first released in 1980 and have watched it several times over the years. There are a couple of little things about ...
Pros: Seymour and Reeve; Plummer and rest of cast; beautiful cinematography; hauntingly lovely score Cons: Time travel elements may strain your credulity
Somewhere in Time is an enchantingly romantic movie involving time travel. Re-watching it recently for the first time in many years, I did a little time traveling of my own, back to the early 1980s when I first saw this lovely film starring ...
Pros: The story was unique and original..beautiful production and location Cons: None that I can think of
I cant believe I just watched Somewhere In Time again Its just one of those movies I cant resist when I find it playing on any of my movie channels Theres just something about it that fascinates and haunts me, ...
Pros: Amazingly beautiful love story. Cons: Nothing at all.
Recently my son, Flamepillar, did a review on the movie "Frequency" which deals with time-travel. At that time I suggested that he check out "Somewhere In Time". Although it is a romance, the concept of...
And so my 80's themed reviews bring me to one of the 80's true crown jewels- "Somewhere in Time", starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, directed by Jeannot Szwarc and released in 1980- based on the novel by ...
When I found Somewhere in Time, I was actually looking for time-travel movies. At first, it sounded like a straight-up time-travel movie. The more I read about it, the more I realized that it had more of a romance theme. I was still interested, ...
Pros: Christopher Reeve & Jane Seymour, Great soundtrack Cons: Too short!!!!!!!!
In 1980 my date and I were standing in line to see a movie. It wasn't until we got near the cashier that we saw there was a 'sneak preview' of another movie to be viewed first. We were dismayed as I recall but decided to see the two movies anyway. The...
Pros: plot, acting, Reeve, Seymour, filming, music, location, and overall feel Cons: end may be sad for some people
Somewhere in Time (1980) was a new film to me and has become one of my favorite films of all time just after one viewing. I mainly chose to view this because Teresa Wright was in it and I wanted to see some of the work she did in her later years as an ...
Pros: Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, acting, Score Cons: Drags badly--boring
I guess I am going to have to disagree on this one with everyone. I found this movie to be incredibly boring. The set-up took forever, the romance was too short, and the ending was disheartening. It also dragged in the middle. It’s a good idea--and ...
Pros: Gentle love story with spectacular footage of Mackinac Island Cons: Some plot holes. Also, if you hate sappy movies, you'll hate this, too.
I'm not sure how old I was the first time I watched our beat-up VHS copy of Somewhere in Time; it had to be several years after my first visit to Mackinac Island at age four. Over the years, Ive come to greatly appreciate the nuances (and ...
Pros: Engaging story. Great acting. Beautiful score. Cons: May have dragged a little during some parts.
The 1980 Jeannot Szwarc-directed film "Somewhere in Time", to this day, remains a cult favorite, highly regarded as one of the best romantic films ever made. Personally, I'm one of those who agrees with that assessment. From the first time I saw it, when...
Pros: not your run-of-the-mill love story Cons: your significant male other will hate it (but who cares about that!)
Of all the movies I have seen that have involved romance, I think "Somewhere In Time" would be one of my favorites. It is truly a love story that bridges the gap of time, and causes the watcher to be entranced by the spell of true love that not even...
Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour starred in this 1979 movie based on Richard Matheson’s novel, Bid Time Return. Mackinac Island’s majestic Grand Hotel is the setting of this incredible and haunting love story between Richard Collier (Reeves),...
Pros: Romantic, Sad, Beautiful story Cons: Slow in a couple of scenes
Have you ever fantasized that you belonged in another time? Or looked at a picture and somehow knew you "connected?" The movie "Somewhere in Time" takes this theme and plummets the viewers into two worlds: the present time of 1979...
Pros: Beautiful love story Cons: You will definitely need plenty of tissues.
I first saw Somewhere in Time when I was in my early teens. I was enraptured by its romanticism. I knew then, as I know now, that it will always be my most favorite movie.
Somewhere in Time is a breathtaking story of a young playwright and...
I would have to say, without a doubt, that Somewhere in Time is the best love story on film. Made in 1980, and starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, this story is about love so strong and intense it defies the boundaries of time.
Pros: timeless classic, fascinating time travel plot Cons: none
Somewhere In Time is one of the most touching, romantic movies ever produced. While it did not last long at the box office in 1980, this little film has garnered some critical acclaim and many fans over the last two decades.
This movie is one of my all time favorite romantic stories.
Starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, it is a story of a writer who sacrifices his life in the present to find happiness in the past, and unknown to him, there is true love waiting...
Pros: Wonderful love story, excellent acting, novel concept. Cons: Plot has a few holes.
The ultimate love story with the ultimate obstacle…Time. Not just lack thereof such as due to a terminal disease, war, or the other thousands of things that place an obstacle in the paths of love. This is the sort of time that spans centuries. It is a...
I'm a male born in November of 1955. That said, I heard about this film while listening to Art Bells' show one morning (I live in Florida)and being open minded as I am, decided to go down and see if I could find a copy to rent. I was lucky....there was...
Pros: Romantic to the Extreme Cons: A bit far-fetched
This is a wonderful romance. The soundtrack is beautiful. Jane Seymour is the perfect romantic heroine and Christopher Reeve is endearing. Even Christopher Plummer carries off his role as sinister villain well.
Pros: Seeing More of Seymore! Cons: Chris' bowler hat
A miraculous little film, which succeeds more as tone and poetry than as cinematic grandeur.
This story shows us scenes containing the most beautiful that Jane Seymour has ever been on film, and she's one beautiful lady in any movie. Here it...
Pros: Good acting, beautiful set & scenery, great plot Cons: some inconsistencies in terms of realism
Today I rented "Somewhere in Time" for the second time in my life. I'd watched it once as a young girl & remember thinking it was so romantic, one of the best movies I'd seen. I decided to watch it again. I still feel it is incredibly...
Pros: THE MOST POWERFUL LOVE STORY, ON FILM, THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN........ Cons: NONE!
There have been a lot of opinions written about this movie. There have been ample to explain to all of us what the general plot is all about. Still, I believe that the complete drawing in of the viewer to a man's inability to live without his new found...
This 1980 film of past life's loves is what I would call, "A True American Classic Love Story". Sometime last year I had become interested in past life's loves and this romantic story was highly recommended to me. When I went to the movie...
Pros: Excellent cast. Wonderful character portrayals. A very lush and wonderful movie. Seymour and Reeve are magic together. Must see movie. Cons: Bring a box of Kleenex. You'll need them.
I absolutely adore this movie. It brings together the themes of romance, time-travel, true love that crosses time, and spirituality and oneness in the truest sense of the word. I cry at the end every time I watch it. It is so incredibly sad at the...
Pros: Very Romantic, very watchable. Cons: It is very romantic, it makes you want to watch it over again, and again.
This story is my most favorite of all time. It is a story about Richard Collier as a play-writer meeting the aged Elise McKenna, and her saying those words, "Come back to me." Then he is obsessed with those words so he goes to Mackinac...
We start the film off, looking at the very talented Chrisopher Reeves. I'm going to skip the begining and go 15 minutes into the film. Christopher playing the character of "Richard" pulls into a beautiful hotel located in Michagain. Walking...
Pros: Just romantic enough without being too syrupy Cons: --
Christopher Reeve is intrigued when an elderly woman comes to him at the beginning of SOMEWHERE IN TIME with a trinket, and acts as if she knows him. He then finds himself intrigued by a photograph of her in her younger years - he wants to go back in...
This is a movie of a young man going to spend a few days at the Grand Hotel in Michigan and while looking in the hotel's museum he sees a picture of a lovely young actress who had once performed at the hotel. He obsesses over her and runs into town to...
Pros: Beautiful Actors, Beautiful Setting, Beautiful Story Cons: None!!
Somewhere in time is the best movie of all time. You really have to love a movie to be able to sit through it more than 50 times without once getting bored. This is probably the only movie that I have ever enjoyed that much and YES, I have seen it more...
Pros: Beautiful soundtrack, great acting, marvelous plot. Cons: none

I can honestly say that "Somewhere in Time" is my absolute favorite movie. The first time I saw the film, I was hooked. Never have I seen such a wonderful story put on the screen. The soundtrack itself is a masterpiece. I've never seen any...
Pros: extremely romantic story Cons: initially slow moving
Jane Seymour plays an actress for a popular play write that takes place in 1912. A beautiful young and naive girl searches for love and when she finds him, she learns some things about herself that she never knew.
Christopher Reeves, plays a...
Pros: Renews hope/faith in love Cons: You'll need at least 1 box of tissues
Somewhere in Time is my breakup movie. Whenever I get upset because of a relationship or need to renew my faith in men, this is my choice for the VCR. Christopher Reeves will let nothing...let alone time...stand in his way when it comes to love. It is...
Pros: A classic tale of love found and lost Cons: none
I was too young to appreciate this movie when it was in the theaters, and saw the video on my mother's recommendation. I cannot count how many times I have seen it since!
This movie has all the makings of a classic. Wonderful story line,...
Pros: Good movie for first date Cons: A bit slow in beginning
This was my mother's favorite movie. As a 13 yr. old, I thought it was kind of sappy. As I grew older (and wiser), I watched this movie with new eyes! It has been my favorite movie since. Christopher Reeve's career was still rather young, and some of...
Pros: Just a fantastic love story Cons: Can't think of one thing.
I saw this movie long after it came out I was only 6 at the time it came out. But my brother and I couldn't find anything else to watch so we started watching this movie. To this day my mom still says remember the movie with superman you and your brother...
Great Idea, Disappointing Movie by esqret ,Dec 25 '03
Pros: The idea. Compelling, and a wonderfully fertile ground for good writing. Cons: Abysmal writing. Negatively reinforced by pointless plot resolution.
Like "Field Of Dreams," Hollywood has once again taken a wonderful "time-warp" concept and ruined it with a shoddy script. Poor Christopher Reeve is saddled with a goopy plot, awful writing, and a lightweight resolution. Rod Serling would have known what to do with the concept. Those who put this together certainly did not. A young '70s playwright finds himself inexplicably drawn to a love interest from the summer of 1912. It's all a bit vague, but potentially very powerful. Opportunities abound to develop a wonderful story. Instead, virtually nothing is resolved, and the whole thing is left a mess. Viewers who respond favorably to this movie are responding from the heart, feeling vaguely as though something wonderful has been accomplished. Indeed, the concept is lovely. But the movie itself, and the treatment of the underlying concept, despite the occasional nice moment, fail miserably. Would that poor Serling were around to address and manage such as this. There was much to be done. But, sadly, very little of the opportunity here is realized. A classic case of something good rewritten and left askew--another nice idea loused up altogether by Hollywood.
