Pros: Vincent Price Cons: hmmm nope
Ahh back to my horror classics for a bit... Unlike the other Vincent Price classics I've reviewed, 1964's thriller The Last Man on Earth is based on the novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson rather than Poe. This is a very good adaptation. ...

Pros: Vincent Price, great source material. Cons: A few problems with the logic, weak action sequences.
How many of us see those movies where the population is whittled down to a pittance and wondered how theyd handle being one of only a handful of survivors in the world? Probably most of us. How many have wondered how theyd handle being the ...

Back in January of 2008, I saw the Will Smith adaption of the Richard Matheson classic yet but I managed to grab up a copy of the Vincent Price version. There were many chances for me to catch this one online since it is a public domain classic, I will ...

Pros: Vincent Price, a great, bleak story with a few really good twists. Cons: Nothing comes to mind.
This was the first adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend, starring the legendary Vincent Price. The whole movie is basically split up into three different sections, establishing that the world has been decimated and that Price is the last normal ...

Price At His Best
by rbuchanan ,Jun 17 '09
Pros: Price is extraordinary in the lead; story is compelling, poignant Cons: Sub-par production values
This review was first posted to Amazon on November 19, 2008: http://www.amazon.com/review/RB1IFC9M4MFAH/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm An uncensored, noncommercial version is available on my blog: http://harkabrazencur.blogspot.com/2008/11/film-review-last-man-on-earth.html
Of the three film adaptations of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend," this is definitely my favorite. "Last Man" treads lightly on the social implications of Matheson's story to concentrate on heartbreaking personal themes, but there's no denying the incalculable influence that both the book and the film have asserted on filmic realizations of vampires and zombies alike. Although the performances of the small cast are of mixed quality, Price is - as always - larger than life, his expressions of grief, hopelessness and desperation entirely and bitterly convincing. Of Vincent Price's relatively few heroic roles, this is surely the finest, and he plays it with great dignity. I wouldn't suggest that "The Last Man on Earth" is flawless; the dubbing is often conspicuously bad, many shots are sloppily executed and clumsy editing frequently makes a mess of the movie's continuity. However, these were the commonplace defects of a low-budget horror film in the '60s, and very few films of this sort were ever as chilling or as tragic as this one.

I didnt like it
by doc5948 ,Dec 22 '07
Pros: Good, but I have see better. Cons: Liked the Richard Matheson book better
It was good as it could have been for those days, yes, but the version The Omega Man with Charlton Heston was much better. I saw the new version with Will Smith last night, and I must admit, even though it was a very good film, I tend to lean toward the older films. I guess I am just an old fashioned type of horror fan. I began to lose interst in horror to some extent back in the 80s with all the splatter craze. Gratuitous violence and special efects do not a movie make.
