Pros: Superb performances. Lavish attention to period detail. Cons: Some familiarity with late 18th century British court life and history is helpful.
The cruise liner, Norwegian Sun, refused to stay in one place underfoot and I was forced to remain in my cabin under the doctor until just prior to my concert. When it was time for me to sing, I was pumped full of anti-nauseants and the captain...

Pros: Nigel Hawthorne's brilliant career-making performance; lovely period detail; clever premise; good supporting performances Cons: Repetitious references to stool and urine samples
Authority is a strangely labile kind of privilege. My personal physician was once my student. He once sat respectfully in my class; now I listen dutifully to his advice. In the college where I work, we have a crime school where state and community ...

Pros: Great acting. Great script. Cons: Rupert Everett is as boring here as with Madonna.

Pros: Flawless acting, spot on costuming, heartbreaking truth. Cons: American's are bound to classify it as "revisionist" because it is sympathetic to George III.
"George, do you think that you are mad?" Queen Charlotte asks on the parapet after chasing her husband, King George III of Great Britain up a flight of stairs as he carries and drags his children to safety from an hallucinated flood.
This...

Pros: great acting, costumes, music, direction, photography, location Cons: a bit confusing for the viewer with no history knowledge
An excellent story about the years in the life of King George III (or Farmer George), in which a strange ailment befell him, an ailment that would last for the rest of his life.
George III was the first monarch in the Hanover...

Pros: Thorough examination of the characters without getting too heavy Cons: An overall thin plot which has been craftily padded out.
The Madness of King George owes most of its success to Nigel Hawthorne. Working with a potentially thin plot was a risky way to fill nearly 2 hours of final product.
However, the viewer is carried through the serious activity of establishing who is...
