Pros: Action, special effects, three acting performances, story Cons: Costner's acting
When this film was made, there was a lot of controversy, about its length, the repeated production delays and release postponements, the greatest-movie-ever hype, and the ballooning budget. I do not care about any of that. I am here to tell you what I ...
Pros: Lots of promise. Some great sets, effects and action. Cons: Inconsistent vision makes it neither fish nor fowl.
Waterworld (1995) Directed by Kevin Reynolds"If you'll notice the arterial nature of the blood coming from the hole in my head, you can assume that we're all having a real lousy day." DeaconThe Universal logo spins, ...
Pros: You can tell that the $172 million was spent on the special effects. Cons: You can tell that little of it was spent on the script.
At the time Waterworld came out, it was judged to be the biggest box office bomb Hollywood had ever scene, mainly on account of its low box-office showing and the amount of money ($172 million) that went into making the film. Time has since judged ...
Pros: Pretty good (and very expensive) action sequences and effects for their day Cons: One exceptionally glaring plot hole
In the real world, there is only enough surface ice, even in Antarctica, to raise the sea level a few hundred feet. In "Waterworld," we are supposed to accept that hundreds of years ago, the ice all melted, raising the sea level in excess of 20,000 ...
Pros: Great stunts, interesting concepts. Dennis Hopper Cons: Far-fetched. Kevin Costner's acting style.
Waterworld doesn't live up to most people's expectations, but I enjoyed the ride all the same! A warning though, you'll need a very forgiving imagination to get the most out of this flick.
Waterworld, at the time of its making (1995) was the...
Pros: intriguing look at what could happen in the next era, convincing culture Cons: drags a bit, not for everyone
According to the Mayans the world is going to end December 21, 2012. I for one hope that doesn't happen as that is my son's 7th birthday. My sister's wedding is set for December 22, 2012 or, as she puts it, "the first day of the new world". Movies like ...
Pros: Almost funny to watch because it's so bad. Cons: Awful screenplay; terrible performances; no direction; predictable; boring; just plain stupid.
I ALMOST feel sorry for the financial backers of "Waterworld," which was the most expensive film ever made for its time (at $172 million), but is also one of the stupidest. Boy, did the finaciers get ripped off! In fact, this film is not really a movie, ...
Pros: Interesting and realistic setting. Enticing story. Cons: Ending a bit weak. Villain should have been more despisable
I have often complained in my movie Epinions about the critical sector giving movies a bum rap. Waterworld was doomed to be considered a "poor film" even before it was half completed filming. The critics were already moaning about the...
Pros: Watchable. If you're drunk. Or really bored. Cons: Costner. Extreme waste of money. Dodgy script.
Kev Costner's much laughed at 'epic on the water' was just one of those disasters that everyone wanted to happen. Like Speed 2 and Kevvy's later apocalyptic hack-job The Postman, nobody wanted Waterworld to make a profit, if for no other reason than to...
Pros: It could happen. It might happen. It will happen? Costner gives good performance. Cons: Bad Rep. Not nearly as bad as critics say. I hesitated to rent it.
This is, on top of all, another movie that predicts disaster and havoc in earth's future. Well, this might happen however: "The Polar Icecaps have melted, covering the earth with water." Now the entire human race is living on floating colonies named...
Pros: some cool toys... Cons: that never made it to market.
Not quite as good as The Postman, this film could have been re-titled "Costner's Folly". The atoll used in the first 40 minutes of the film sunk at least once before it was used, and Dennis Hopper received the "worst supporting actor"...
Pros: Not as bad as its reputation Cons: Still pretty bad
I’ve never much liked Kevin Costner, even though he’s been in some good movies. Waterworld is by no means one of those. Financially speaking, it was an absolute disaster, costing over $170 million dollars (or, to put it another way, the amount of money...
Pros: Interesting main idea, some nice scenery Cons: Dialogue, costumes, acting, inconsistencies, unrealistic survival techniques
Why didn't I take the advice of dozens of critics who didn't recommend Waterworld. It could have been much better. If you haven't seen this movie, don't dare see it. I thought "well, it did cost $170 million to make, so it can't be that...
Pros: None Cons: No reality check when this was made
I'm sorry, I've had trouble staying awake through "Waterworld". I believe that the formula of Kevin Costner + Post-Apocolypse = Awful Film. Costner is no Mel Gibson and "Waterworld" is no "Road Warrior". Beyond the bad...
Pros: Like a storm at sea, this movie lifts you high on it's waves of action and drops you as the pace slows and you are forced to think about the possibilities. (Global Warming Theorists will love the portrayal of the melted polar ice caps!) Cons: All the bad press, over budget by a ton, and Kev's nasty break-up with his wife during shooting were certainly negatives that were difficult to overcome. Still, in the end, the movie made money on the world market!
How can one really enjoy a movie that was vilified by the press and critics before the first screening? By trying to watch and make your own decision, and realizing that sometimes one is bashed because it becomes fashionable to bash that person. ...
