Pros: Smart romantic comedy [gay romantic comedy?] Cons: Kevin Smith is a turn-off for some
Chasing Amy is a perfect relationship mess. I’ve seen it four hours before jumping in a relationship that has not been promising anything in the beginning, started more as a joke just to have myself some good time, but that is leading into phase where I...

Pros: A hilarious and witty love story. Realistic dialog. Cons: Nasty subject matter and heavy profanity is certainly not for everyone.

Pros: everything Cons: well, the fact that people like his other flicks over this one.
I'm not the hugest fan of Kevin Smith. Clerks? Grossly overrated and self-indulgent. Mallrats? Just plain bad and silly. But then he had the one two punch of Dogma a flawed film to be sure, but one that made an attempt at...

Pros: One of the best love stories of the modern age, brilliantly scripted, great performances. Cons: None.

Pros: Ben Affleck's best acting job ever (no, seriously), Jason Lee is brilliant. Cons: The long interactions between Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams are the nadirs of the film.
Kevin Smith's previous work leading to this, the 3rd installment of the "Jersey Trilogy", is very interesting in it's dynamics. The first movie, 1994's Clerks, was as low-budget as it gets, shot in black-and-white, full of dark comedy, ...

Pros: Joey Lauren Adams, Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, the moving story and the literate dialogue. Cons: I don't like conventions of any kind.

Pros: Great different romantic comedy Cons: Most of the comedy is fairly crude

Pros: Wonderful story Cons: Ending that leaves you thinking another film was attached at the end
"Chasing Amy" offers one of the simplist stories portrayed on film in the 1990s. And, like Yankee pinstripes, it is so simple it is nearly wonderful.
Boy meets girl. Girl is lesbian. Boy attempts to get lesbian to "change...

Pros: Kevin Smith's best work; Jason Lee is excellent Cons: Some people might find the subject of this film a turn off
Wow. This is some film, ladies and gentleman. When I had first saw this film, I was amazed at how good it was. It's really a lot of things rolled into one: On one hand, it's a love story, about two different people drawing together. On the other hand,...

Pros: Delves into complexities of relationships Cons: Awkward handling of some scenes
Made cheaply (reportedly for a mere $250,000), "Chasing Amy" was one of the most profitable independent films of 1997. If you can get past the director's characteristically foul language, you may want to give it a try on video.

Pros: It's a Kevin Smith movie Cons: The end is kind of a downer
Many people argue that Kevin Smith's release prior to Chasing Amy, Mallrats, wasn't very good. Well, when compared to anything else he did, no, it wasn't that great. Take any Kevin Smith movie and compare it to Chasing Amy? It'll look terrible.

Pros: Great storyline, good characters, touching drama. Cons: A little crude at times.

Learn from your mistakes
by tommyawok82 ,Jan 19 '06
Pros: Funny occasionally Cons: Not funny enough for the series of films to which it belongs
I watched this little film on the basis of it being part of a stonking series of films. Clerks and Mallrats are wonderful films, very amusing indeed; Chasing Amy is certainly not. It's the type of film that when someone asks 'any good?' you reply 'it was alright I suppose', '...and the best bits old boy?' 'Ummm, can't think'. Why is this the case? It's just one of those in-the-middle-of-the-bunch films, it's not rubbish and it's not good. This said I wouldn't recommend it unless you haven't watched Clerks or Mallrats, even then it's not really worth the hour and a half. If you have, however, seen the aformentioned films don't, please don't, watch this (unless you enjoy disappointment).
Now this woman, the one from Bridget Jone's Scumlog and BJ's Scumlog Returns, Rene or something, she's not that great. Get over her now, she will also only disappoint you (steer clear of the film Chicago as well). This is what you call 'hearsay for the purpose of avoiding disappointment'.
