Pros: everything Cons: nothing
Look no further... this is the film that should have won five or six Academy Awards the year Titanic swept everything. A brilliantly written, acted, and directed tale of police corruption in 1950s Los Angeles, LA CONFIDENTIAL has everything... including...

Pros: Amazing characters, interesting themes, well-crafted Cons: So subtle you might miss it
Routinely selected as one of the best films of the 1990s, LA Confidential is a strange breed of film. It is not particularly original. It is not amazingly poignant. The substance of it is almost secondary to the mood it creates and the craftsmanship it...

Pros: Great acting, direction, scripting... Cons: Knotty plot
By Max Scheinin.
Let's be frank here. We cannot praise L.A. Confidential too much -- after a while, it simply becomes redundant. I'm going to make this opinion short and sweet and to-the-point. L.A. Confidential is a great American film about...

Pros: excellent presentation of an excellent plot Cons: None
I understand some people watch movies to be entertained, but LA Confidential is more. So long as movies that contain violence, sex, and language are not going to offend you, LA Confidential is an experience you should not miss.
I have not seen a...

Pros: Terrific star-making lead performances by Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce. Kim Basinger's best performance ever. Kevin Spacey being Kevin Spacey. Tight plot. Great atmosphere. Scores in almost every department. Cons: Because of some lags in the storyline, the movie feels somewhat overlong. It is extremely violent. Since it is film noir the characters and story are very dark and cynical.
L.A. Confidential-what a roller coaster of a movie! I loved every single second of this film. It has everything a movie fan looks for in a film. The characters are unique and interesting. The actors, especially the three male leads-Kevin Spacey,Guy...

Pros: Well acting, A good script, and just enough comic relief highlight this masterpiece of mystery. Cons: Not totally historically correct.
Whenever I think of underrated movies I usually think of L.A. Confidential. The first thing I think about L.A. Confidential is HOW THE HELL DID THIS LOSE TO TITANIC FOR BEST PICTURE?? What the hell is wrong with those Oscar people. The most prestigious...

Pros: Super script, dynamite directing, aggressive acting Cons: sometimes hard to follow
We have all become jaded about the L.A. Police Department, especially after the Rodney King and O. J. Simpson matters. So, after we watch a gritty movie like "L.A. Confidential", we go away feeling we have viewed a true story rather than a...

Pros: Stellar Cast. Story has depth. Cons: Sold out for typical H'wood ending
Being a huge fan of James Ellroy, I never figured any of his movies would make it to the big screen somewhat intact. This movie proved it can be done. The movie perfectly captures 50's Hollywood with all it's glitz and gutter trash. Guy Pearce and...

Pros: Wonderful writing, great plot, twisting plot line, superb acting, unlimited action and mystery Cons: only the one mentioned herein
Spectacular!! James Ellroy is a genius. Not only does "LA Confidential" give you action, but it gives you mystery, love, and an intertwining plot line that'll keep you watching it five more times before you finally see all of the connections....

Pros: A brilliant film with awesome acting, a great script, and lovely visuals Cons: You must be kidding, right?
The single most important thing in any story, be it book or film or play, is to have interesting characters. The audience has to care what happens to the people involved. LA CONFIDENTIAL is a glorious example of getting it right. Sure, it has a ...

Pros: Unmatched writing and acting Cons: Very violent, if you don't like that sorta thing
I think L.A. Confidential is the best movie made in recent years. The performances were awesome; Russell Crowe and Kevin Spacey particularly impressed me - they often do. I don't really understand why Kim Basinger won an Oscar for what was essentially a...

Pros: Okay story Cons: Boring, unreal characters
I don't understand how people like movies like this. I thought this was a slightly above average movie. But the bottom line is that this movie is a spy movie and a period piece without much writing or acting going on.
Crowe's acting skills are...

Pros: Fantastic! Cons: Not a one...
I must admit, I'm not too pereptive of movie trailers. The more hype it receives, the less anxious I am to see it...luckily I have a movie expert for a best friend who keeps me in remarkable films.
LA Confidential was one I avoided. The...

Pros: Well acted, great story, surprising Cons: Could bore the passive watcher
I must say I was not eager to see this movie. I got tired of this genre (gangster/suspense/shoot 'em up) a couple years ago and saw nothing from the previews to get me to actually sit through it. I can admit when I was wrong. This movie was good from...
